FIRE KNOCKED OUT QUICKLY!
At 2:50 p.m. Sunday afternoon the Fire Department received a call of a fire at 1505 South Nueces (at the corner of Nueces and 8th Streets) in Coleman. Coleman’s Fire Marshall Gary Payne advised when arriving at the scene fireman found that a pile of rubble, tires and an old car were burning. Because of the tires the smoke was black and could be seen for some distance. For a while there was concern of other areas around catching on fire as the wind was blowing at approximately 45 miles per hour out of the north and because of the extreme dry conditions. However, working swiftly firemen were able to knock the fire out in about 20 minutes. At one time, the area that burned was known as the Dan Hoover home, but the home had been knocked down and only the old car and the rubble was in its place. Fire Marshall Payne advised the cause of the fire was because of children playing around the rubble with a cigarette lighter." (Coleman Chronicle and Democrat-Voice, November 30, 2005.) |
