Announcement is made today by Mr.
and Mrs. Jake Hausenfluke that they have sold the 7-Up Bottling Company
of Coleman to the Brownwood Coca-Cola Bottling Company, effective February
1. The bottling plant has been moved to Brownwood.
It is understood that present personnel of the business
will continue with the new firm, to be known as the 7-Up Bottling Company
of Brownwood. After a period with the new company, to assist in the
transition, the Hausenflukes announce that they will continue to make their
home in Coleman.
Mr. Hausenfluke admits that his plans for the future are
not definite, other than he plans to remain in Coleman. He adds that
he will probably vacation for a while.
It is announced that the new company will continue
to serve the same area as in the past, out of the Brownwood plant, and
in some instances expanded services will be made available in the 7-Up
lines and in the lines of Frosty Root Beer, Big Red, Sun Crest and Nugrape
flavors. Counties to continue to be serviced include Brown, Coleman,
McCulloch and a portion of Runnels County which includes Ballinger.
The bottling plant had been in Coleman since 1926 when
it was established by R. R. Browning. He first had the Nehi franchise
and in 1932 obtained the 7-Up franchise. The Hausenflukes came to
Coleman in 1948 from Austin where he had been production supervisor for
the Austin 7-Up operation. From 1938 to 1948 they were in business
with Henry Kuempel of Austin, buying him out in 1948 and have been sole
owners since.
From 1954 to 1964 they serviced Abilene, Stamford, Colorado
City, Snyder and several other areas with Frostie Root Beer and Sun Crest
flavors.
The Hausenflukes have been in the bottling business for
31 years, with the last 21 years in Coleman. |
