M. H. Crockett Buys Gates Building

     A deal was consumated Wednesday whereby J. W. Gates transfers the Gates building, on the Square, to M. H. Crockett for a consideration of $15,000.00.  The building is a two story brick 25 x 100 feet.  The Central State Bank occupies the first story, front, and Rogers and Strother, rear.  Possession will be given immediately.

"In 1929, the Central State Bank was located at 108 West Live Oak Street, on the corner of West Street.  C. W. Hemphill was the president; J. A. Horne, the vice-president, J. C. Smith, the cashier; A. W. Burkett, the assistant cashier.  Their telephone numbers were 217 and 266.

"This building was known as the Central State Bank Building, which also housed various businesses.  John O. Harris was an attorney with his office here.  W. Thadddeus Knox was a surveyor with his office here.  J. E. McCord and Sons, owned by Thomas M. and J. Press McCord, dealing in loans and real estate (Thomas M. McCord was residing in San Bernardino, California.), had their office here.  Howard Samuell Interest, owned by J. Howard Samuell, oil operators had their here."   (Coleman City Directory, 1929 - Hudspeth.)
