There are no maps of this area of Coleman prior to 1923. There were probably no dwellings on this block prior to 1923. The dwelling at what became 600 South Frio Street was in 1916 and 1923 addressed as 400 South Frio Street. It was built between 1916 and 1923
"In 1929, Josephine Fowler, widow of B. B. Fowler was residing at 600 South Frio Street. Also living at this address was Miss Lizzie B. Fowler. Also living at this address were Edwin C. Fowler and John I. Fowler. They were commercial artists and the owners of Fowler's Sign Shop, which was also located at this address. Their motto was "for anything in signs." Their telephone number was 527-J. (Coleman City Directory, 1929 - Hudspeth.)
The 1923 and 1948 maps indicate the Fowler's Sign Shop to the west of
the dwelling, with a porch on the south side of
the shop,
located on the east side of the automobile
garage.
