Banner Ice Company Serves Many Towns In Coleman Section

The Banner Ice Company in establishing here in the spring of 1930, brought to Coleman one of the largest ice plants for a town of this size in the country.  Not only are the facilities of this wide-awake ice company practically unlimited but they have one of the most beautiful buildings in the city for their home.  This most modern brick structure is located right in the heart of the city at Concho and Elm streets making it accessible to the drive-in trade as well as the down-town business places who have to have their ice cream cabinets, etc., packed with crushed ice several times a day.

The Banner Ice plant is capable of supplying forty thousand pounds, or twenty ton of pure, clean ice per day.  It is essential that they have a large capacity since they serve such a large trade territory.  The area covered by their fleet of delivery trucks daily, besides the city of Coleman, include:  Echo, Burkett, Valera, Talpa, Voss, Silver Valley, Novice, Doole, Stacy, Webb’s’ Store, Fisk, Leaday, Glen Cove, Shields, and Gouldbusk.  This requires an ample output and unfailing service at all times.

As well as manufacturing ice cream for commercial use, they also make for home consumption.  They take great pride in filling private orders.  They especially cater to clubs, parties, etc.  For this purpose they maintain an assortment of special moulds with which they can make your ice cream into dainty and artistic individual servings.  They maintain an all year-round market for the buying of cream for the manufacture of Ice Cream, butter and other commodities that they manufacture and sell.  They likewise maintain a ready market for the buying of produce in this trade territory.  They pay top prices at all times for chickens, turkeys and all kinds of produce.  This department is under the very able management of L. M. Justice, who is well versed in the poultry and produce business.

Banner Ice Company is the exclusive dealer for the White Seal refrigerator in Coleman, and their array of boxes now on display include a choice assortment in sizes and prices.  You may purchase a “White Seal” refrigerator by making a small down payment, or even trading in your old ice box as the initial payment.  Convenient terms can be arranged for paying the balance in weekly or monthly payments, just to suit your convenience.

The tremendous cold storage facilities of this concern extends an unusual courtesy to the lovers of hunting in this section.  You are invited to bring your dressed, wild game to the Banner Ice Company’s cold storage department where the even temperature assures you safe keeping.  There is no charge for this service.

The beautiful structure would however, just be another building equipped with machinery, were it not for the courteous, capable and highly proficient personnel which has made the tremendous success of this institution possible.  The very capable manager of Banner Ice Company, Mr. A. F. Stobaugh, is assisted, through loyal cooperation, by Mr. George T. England and the entire crew.

You are invited to pay the Banner Ice Company and the boys a visit at any time.  They will be glad to show you through the plant at your convenience.

(transcribed by Pam Sanders, February 2006.)

In 1930, the old two story dwelling was torn down and a modern brick ice plant was built by Banner Ice Company at 316 South Concho Street.  Even though these maps show an address of 314, telephone books and show the address as 316 South Concho Street, the same as the 1923 map.
