"New Gem Theater Had Auspicious Opening Day

"The Gem, Howell's new moving picture show house located on Commercial Avenue, was opened to the public Saturday afternoon.  The house was crowded from the afternoon opening hour, two o'clock, until 11:00 p. m. at night. The Gem showhouse will give daily matinee and evening programs, open at 2 o'clock p. m.

"The Dixie Theater also showed to a full house throughout the afternoon and evening of Saturday."

"In 1929, the Gem Theatre was located at 214 South Commercial Avenue.  Howell Theatres were the owners and operators.  Walter McKinney was an operator at the Gem Theatre, with no residence address given."  (Coleman City Directory, 1929 - Hudspeth.)
