Washington School was known as School No. 1 in District No. 9. (see Burkett Schools).  In the school year October 30, 1893 - May 25, 1894, the teacher was W. C. Rickard; trustees were J. T. Audas, W. C. Henderson and J. W. Watson.  Students were: Lou Audas, Ola May Baker, Catherine C., Jennie J. and Tex Rose Ella Clarke, Jennie Belle Golson, Kate Belle Hall, Coma Henderson, Laura Josephine, Sallie Jane and Lizzie Louisa Helms, Sarah E. Mosier, Inez C. Nicholson, Nettie Eugenia Newton, Matilda Jane, Ida Lee and Phebe Annie Perkins, Letha Ann and Mary Jane Pinkston, Mary Elizabeth and Lula Belle Shawm, Myrtle R. Stanley, Annie E. Strickland, Ophelia C., Edna Burkett and Myrtle Wesley, James and Calvin Baker, Arthur W. and Oscar D. Burkett, E. H. and J. Shephard Boyle, Reuben R. Cumbie, William James and Thomas Colvin, Sam Silas Clarke, William Edmison, Frank Golson, James, Grover and William Thomas Hall, Edd Henderson, Thomas Jasper, William E. and Thomas Helms, Calvin D. and Thomas Cleve Lindley, Thomas E.
