History of Coleman County and Its People, 1985
The first Pleasant Valley School (District #43) was built on Jackson land, south of what is now Highway 67 and across the railroad tracks, sometime prior to 1907. There was also a Jackson School that existed at the same time as this Pleasant Valley School, because Pleasant Valley was ordered to sell the Jackson School, being in the same district, so Pleasant Valley could build a better school. J. W. Pauley was the teacher in 1912, and the trustees were J. L. Bomar and George Rae. In 1913, the teacher was W. C. Rickard; trustees, J. L. Bomar, George Rae and Owen Freeman. Students that year were Gertrude Authur; Clara Odessa Berryman; Clara May and Sarah Jane Bedell; Mamie Cook; Edna Annie and Nora Inez Jackson; Nora J. Martin; Leora, Ruby and Clara McClure; Ola Minnie, Coma Ellen, Edna Lena and Myrtle Ida Tate; Bennie Hazel and Vemna Alice Thomason; Earl Ethan Authur; Edward Ingram and Lyman Bedell; George Dewey, Henry Marvin, Charles Columbus and Carlie Odell Martin; James Walter Ray; William Franklin, Lester, John D. and Henry Tate; and William Olin Thomason. In 1914 the teacher was Lena Malone; trustees, J. O. Freeman and W. I. Martin, with an enrollment of 36. In 1921, part of Spring Creek consolidated
with Pleasant Valley, with the rest going to Talpa.
With this consolidation, Pleasant Valley built a new school closer to Talpa,
east of the Andy Broyles place. This new school was known as the
new Pleasant Valley School. These old and new Pleasant Valley Schools
were also known as Old Possum Trot and New Possum Trot. In 1929,
Pleasant Valley consolidated with Talpa.
