I do not know when Peabody School was first put into operation, but possibly around 1880.  I do know my mother, Ruby Smith Savage, attended school there and also some of her sisters.  The Webbs, Morrissons and Albrights were some of the others who attended.  A Colonel Mobley was one of the first teachers.  In those days they used slates and had to buy their books.  The school was located on the south bank of Hords Creek, almost at the head of the present Hords Creek Lake.  In 1891, Peabody School was known as District #6, Community #2.  It was dissolved sometime in the 1890’s, with Shady Grove School and Central (Live Oak) School taking its place.
