New Castle School was located about 1 mile south of the present Hords
Creek Dam. The first record of this school was in 1890, when W. C.
Rickard taught there, the school identified as School #3, District #5.
Trustees that year were W. S. Walker, W. L. James and R. Barnett; the students
were Z., Enoch S. and David Cox; Julia Ethel and M. Etta Clayton; A. Bent;
Mantie Grigg; Hattie M. and E. Clitus Jones; Lillie L., Jas. D. and Alma
Meek; I. F. "Belle", J. W. and Richard Pauley; Ossie Powell; Mary E., Robert
F. and Annie Laura Vaughn; Lillie D., Mary A. and Sallie E. Warnock and
William H. Walker. In 1901, the old school house was sold, as it
was too damaged to have school for the past two years, so the funds could
be used to build a new building. It is not known if this building
was built, as it consolidated with Valera before
1911.
