The Concho School was located on the B. B. and Josephine Fowler land near Rockwood. It was probably organized in the early 1890’s. It was a two room school building, where the classes were arranged by the books they studied rather than a promoted grade. In 1895, at picture taking time, over fifty pupils were in attendance. In earlier years, a Mr. Thompson taught there. On December 4, 1905, three acres of land was deeded for school purposes, and the name changed to Concho Peak School, District #11. The Harper School building was moved to Concho Peak in 1914 and this made a three room and a three teacher school. Some of the teachers who taught there were: J. H. (Henry) Livingston, who also served as principal for many years; a Mr. Griffin; a Mr. Cotton; Ada Cheatham; Lena Lovelady; Miss Mattie Goodson; A. B. Carroll; Olive Pierce; Alta Lovelady; Myrtle Gaines; Beatrice Reasoner; Mrs. Robert Milligan; Lexie Williams; Mrs. Rex Herring; Clyde and Jack Germany; Hallie McElrath; Ina Lee Southern and Ethel Jameson. Some of the trustees were: B. B. Fowler, J. L. Lynch, Sam Snedegar, K. C. Gore, J. B. Mauldin, Marvin Richardson, J. R. Martin, J. S. Hodges, E. M. Vinson, E. T. McBride, and A. N. McSwain. Some of the families who had children in school in the earlier years were: Ford, Fowler, Forman, Knight, Cheatham, Sanderson, and Billings. In 1937 Concho Peak was consolidated with Shields
and the building was moved to Shields for a lunch room; after consolidation
with Santa Anna, the building
was bought by Tom Stewardson to use for storage on his ranch.
