The first Comal School is now (1983) a barn owned by Edgar McAnally.
The land on which the Comal Schools were located were bought by Henry Thate,
Sr., from the Comal County School land, Survey 181, located 6 miles north
of Burkett. The first school was built in 1894, when this part of
District #6 was cut off; forming Comal District #18. The Thate children
went to school there. In 1915, Henry gave three more acres to build
a new Comal School. In 1936 Comal consolidated with Burkett.
