The Rebekah Lodge was organized May 2, 1908, by Mrs. Nettie Wood, president
of the Rebekah Assembly, and Mrs. J. D. Alexander, grand secretary, who
lived at Cisco, Texas. The official list of the organization was
place on the charter at Cisco. The charter members were: T.
W. Rush, W. H. Bell, A. L. Dickenson, W. V. Chaplin, J. B. Dibrell, Mrs.
Vivian White, Mrs. Clara Bell, Mrs. J. H. Nancy, Mrs. D. W. Watson, Mrs.
T. W. Stribling, Miss Chloe Bell, Mrs. and Mrs. Sam Trimble, Miss Daisy
Brown, and Mrs. R. M. Hall. Fifteen members signed the charter nine
of whom are still living and those residing in the city of Coleman are:
T. W. Rush, J. B. Dibrell Jr., Mrs. T. J. White, Mrs. D. W. Watson, who
is now Mrs. G. W. Candler.
On May 8, 1908, a class was initiated and a full staff of officers elected:
T. W. Rush, noble grand, Vivian White, vice grand, Miss Chloe Bell, secretary,
Mrs. J. W. Nancy, treasurer, Essie Martin, warden, Mrs. Daisy Brown, conductor,
Mrs. D. W. Watson, chaplain, Mrs. T. W. Stribling, inside guardian, Mrs.
Sam Trimble, R.S.N.G., Mrs. T. J. White, L. S. N. G., Mrs. R. M. Hall R.S.V.G.,
Mrs. T. W. Rush, L.S.V.G. The lodge at this time had a membership
of thirty eight members.
The main object of the organization is caring for the children of the
I.O.O.F. home located in Corsicana and the Old Folks Home located in Ennis
Texas. Once a year a box of fruits and jelly and a box of linens,
a donation to the president fund, and a Christmas box are sent to the institutions.
A past Noble Grand’s Club was organized April 7, 1927, by Mrs. E. M.
Brooks, with fourteen members. Only past noble grands were eligible
to membership and today the membership is twenty three. The object
of the club is to promote social activities and at all times be ready to
help the lodge in any project that it sees fit to undertake. At present
the lodge is sponsoring a ward in the I.O.O. F. Home, beginning in 1928
with that work. The club at this time is in the act of raising money
to buy an American flag which it will present to the lodge.
The activities of the local lodge is in caring for the sick and the
strangers. This local body meets every Thursday night in the I.O.O.F.
hall. The lodge at this time has a membership of thirty five and
the following officers: Mr. Zella Knox, noble grand, Mrs. Lula Kellog,
vice grand, Mrs. Frang Brewer, secretary, Mrs. E. M. Brooks, treasurer,
Mrs. H. B. Wilson, chaplain, Mrs. Frank Gillespie, musician, Mrs. George
Koenig, warden, Mrs. Della Elkins, conductor, Mrs. C. W. Simpson, R.S.N.G.,
Mrs. Sam Parker, L.S.N.G., Mrs. R. B. Renfroe inside guardian, Mrs. Frank
Brewer, outside guardian; Mrs. T. M. Candy, R.S.V.G., and Mrs. Nellie Eitel
