Mr. Sam Houston (Sonny) Johnson, age 80 of Coleman, passed away June 2, 2004 at the Coleman County Medical Center.  Funeral services are Friday, June 4, 2004 at 10:00 a. m. at Walker Funeral Home Chapel in Coleman with Mr. Sam Wilson and Mr. Wayne Shelton officiating with burial to follow at the Gouldbusk Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Home of Coleman.

Sonny was born September 29, 1923 in Gouldbusk, Texas the son of the late T. M. and Pearl Wright Johnson.  On October 17, 1942 he married Lavada Fulbright in Coleman and she preceded him in death in 1997.  He married Belle Shelton in 1998.  A lifetime resident of Coleman County, Sonny served as Chief of Police here in Coleman for many years before retiring.  He was a Veteran of WWII and a member of the Santa Anna Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife, Belle of Coleman; one daughter, Earlene Dockery of Trickham; two sons, Sammy of Cleburne and Thomas of Clyde; one sister, Dorothy Carnes of Coleman.  Also surviving are two step-sons, Alonzo Shelton of Coleman and Wayne Shelton of Odessa and one step-daughter, Donna Rockey of Brownfield; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren, eight step-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends tonight (Thursday) from 7:00 to 8:00 p. m. at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to the Northside Church of Christ of Santa Anna.  Pallbearers will be Don Williams, Gene Christian, Rodney Guthrie, Pete Floyd, Chris Wallace, Wesley Dockery, Jason Johnson and Alex DeLeon.

The Department of Public Safety is investigating the death Thursday of an 86-year-old Valera woman who was run over by a pickup apparently driven by her husband, police officials said.  The incident appears to be accidental, police said.  The woman, Lillie Pepper Charlton, was dumping trash on the side of County Road 364 south of Valera, in Coleman County when the pickup backed over her.  She was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a DPS report.  ''Everything is still trying to be determined right now,'' said Sgt. Paul Schulze of the Brownwood DPS.  ''It'd be hard to say anything right now.''  The driver of the truck, Elbert Charlton, is believed to be Lillie Charlton's husband, although that has not been confirmed, Schulze said.  The driver's age also is unconfirmed, although Schulze said he believes Elbert Charlton is 79. 

Lillie Pepper Charlton died at 10:50 p. m. Thursday, according to the report, and police are awaiting autopsy results to confirm the cause of death, Schulze said.  The Coleman DPS station, which is investigating the incident, is treating the case as an accident, he added.  Schulze and members of the Brownwood DPS responded to the call with a Coleman DPS officer.  ''It's definitely a tragic accident,'' Schulze said. ''It appears to be he accidentally ran over her.''  Schulze said he expects the investigation to be completed by the end of next week.

Lillie Charlton, age 87, of Valera, Coleman County, Texas, died Thursday, June 3, 2004 in Valera.  Funeral service will be held Monday at 2:00 p. m. in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Beck officiating.  Burial will follow in the Voss Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

She was born Lillie Pepper on February 4, 1917 in Voss, Texas, a daughter of the late Joseph E. J. Pepper and Lila Pricer Pepper.  She grew up in Voss and attended school there.  On March 3, 1955 she married Elbert Charlton in Kingsville, Texas.  She lived many places in Texas and Louisiana, moving to Valera in 1985.  She was a homemaker and a member of Valera Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Elbert Charlton of Valera; two sons, Ray and wife Gwen Perkins of Sandia, Texas and Steve and wife Betty Perkins of Kingsville, Texas; one daughter, Joan and husband Richard Fitzpatrick of Hammond, Louisiana; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a niece, Ann Stephens of Valera.

Henry Cecil Cope, age 83, of Odessa, Texas passed away Thursday, June 3, 2004 at Terrace West Nursing Facility in Midland, Texas.  Memorial services will be held in Eastland, Texas at a later date. Services under the direction of Odessa Funeral Home.

He was born January 11, 1920 in Coleman, Texas to Jacob Henry and Julia Alberta Cope.  He was a Christian Baptist, Army Veteran of WW II and a self-employed carpenter.  Mr. Cope was preceded in death by his first and second wife, Mary Frances Cope and Elan O¹Neal Cope.

Survivors include his daughter, Mary Elkins of Odessa; a sister, Ileta Bourland of Coleman, Texas; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Theresa Lynn Walden-Coleman was born October 9, 1964 in Texarkana, Texas and passed from this life on June 3, 2004 in Dallas.  Services for Mrs. Coleman were Saturday, June 5, 2004 in the Laurel Oaks Funeral Home with Dr. Dennis W. Hochgraber officiating.  Entombment followed at Laurel Oaks Memorial Park. 

Theresa was a graduate of Lancaster High School, Class of 1983.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lancaster.

Mrs. Coleman is survived by her husband, Michael Coleman; children Justin Scott and Alicia Lynn, step-son Daniel Coleman; parents, Joe and Sandra Walden of Coleman; and grandparents Nella and Finis Walden.

Tony Rehm, age 92, of Rockwood, Texas passed away Monday at 6:00 a. m. at his residence in Rockwood.  Services were Wednesday at 2:00 p. m. at the Rockwood Baptist Church with Rev. James Ford officiating.  Interment followed at the Rockwood Cemetery under the direction of Henderson Funeral Home of Santa Anna.

Tony was born February 12, 1912 in Rockwood, Texas to the late Pete and Ella Howard Rehm.  He attended the Rockwood and Whon Schools and graduated from Santa Anna High School.  On December 6, 1934, Tony married Alice Lily Rutherford and they celebrated forty-nine years of marriage.  Alice preceded him in death in 1983.  Tony was a lifetime resident of Rockwood and stockfarmer retiring in 1996.

Survivors include four daughters: Neva and husband Gene Smith of Richardson, Texas, Bobbie Robicheaux of Fort Worth, Texas, Vita and husband Rodger Gilpin of Laredo, Texas, and Mary and husband Wayne Esslinger of Midland, Texas; a son, Wade Rehm of Gorman, Texas; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Jeff Smith, Greg Smith, Todd Smith, Judd Gilpin, Casey Gilpin, Chad Gilpin, Kurt Esslinger and Tony Esslinger.

Donald Roy Page age 76 of Lake Coleman, Texas passed away Monday, June 07, 2004 at 4:50 p. m. at Abilene Regional Medical Center.  Graveside Services will be today (Thursday) at 11:00 a. m. at the Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa with Rev. Clydel Chapman officiating.  Henderson Funeral Home of Coleman is in charge of arrangements.

Donald was born on January 2, 1928 in Eldorado, Texas to the late Oliver Barnett and Lela Locklin Page.  He attended San Angelo and Abilene Schools and married Daisy Marie Steveson on August 21, 1952 in Lovington, New Mexico.  They have celebrated fifty one years of marriage.  Donald was a naval veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.  He had been a resident of Coleman since 1992 moving here from Euless where he resided for 30 years.  Donald was a member of the Baptist Church and employed with Jack Cooper Transportation in Arlington until his retirement in 1992.

Survivors include his wife, Daisy Marie Page of Lake Coleman, Texas; a daughter, Linda Darling Page of Lake Coleman, Texas; a sister, Elizabeth Giordano of Sacramento, California; niece and nephew, Patsy and Bill Debose of Odessa, Texas; and several other nieces and nephews.  Donald was preceded in death by his daughter, Donna Lou Page in 1957.

Pallbearers will be Billy DeBose, Jr., David Brownlow, Dustin DeBose and Mason Brownlow. 

Reba Leona (Cook) Green passed away on June 7, 2004 in the home of her younger sister in Gouldbusk, Texas, at the age of 76 years.  She will be laid to rest in the Dublin Liveoak Cemetery on June 12, 2004 following a memorial service at 10:00 a. m. in the Harrell Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Gerald Freeman officiating.

She was born March 4, 1928 in Union Grove, Texas.  She was the daughter of Rev. Vern and Josie Cook.  She was united in marriage to John Hubert Green on February 9, 1946 in Bunyan, Texas and to this union three sons were born.  She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Vern and Nancy Green of Orange, California, John and Cindy Green of Aurora, Illinois, Joe Green of San Diego, California; her grandchildren; Dr. Chad and wife, Becky Green of Davis, California, Kristen and husband, Chris Gabel of Temecula, California, Raymond Green of Palm Springs, California, William Green of Chicago, Illinois; her great-grandchild, Malia Carlene Gabel; sisters, Valdene and husband Ross Whitehead of Pasadena, Texas and Mona Faye and husband, Glen Wilson of Gouldbusk, Texas; and a host of other relatives and many friends.  Leona supported her husband through 22 years of military service with the U. S. Navy.  She was a member of the Highland Avenue Congregational Methodist Church of Dublin, Texas.

Isom Alfred (Al) Chambers, age 77, got to see that glorious day on Tuesday, June 8, 2004, when he left this earth surrounded by his loving family at the Brownwood Regional Hospital.  Funeral services will be Friday at 10:00 a. m. at the First Baptist Church in Coleman, officiated by Rev. Gary Boyd, Rev. John Stanislaw and Rev. Casey Perry.  The family will receive guests at Stevens Funeral Home on Thursday from 6:00 p. m until 8:00 p. m.  Interment will be at the Coleman Cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home of Coleman.

He was born on February 17, 1927 in Burkburnett, Texas to Isom A. and Stella Chambers.  He was a graduate of Brownwood High School and a Navy WWII veteran.  He married Sammie Smith on November 28, 1948, in Brownwood; his wife of 55 years survives him.  He graduated from the DPS Academy and was stationed as a State Trooper in Stamford, Colorado City, Coleman, and Abilene; retiring in 1981.  He then served as the Coleman City Judge from 1982 to 1997.  Mr. Chambers was ordained as a deacon at the Melwood Baptist Church in Brownwood.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Coleman and he served as a deacon for over fifty years.  He was also a member and a past president of the Coleman Evening Lions Club.

Myrtle Horn, 73, of Coleman died Thursday, June 10, 2004 at Coleman Healthcare Center.  Graveside services were 10:00 a. m. Saturday, June 12, 2004 at Oakwood Cemetery in Cisco, under the direction of Kimbrough Funeral Home, Cisco.

Ms. Horn was born July 26, 1930 in Cisco to Roy and Mamie (Rains) Horn.  She lived in Cisco until 1971 when she moved to Coleman with her father until his death in September 1973.  She then lived with her sister and brother-in-law, Ruby and Dan Hoover, in 2002 she moved to Coleman Healthcare Center.  At one time she worked for the MHMR Center in Coleman.  She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene.

She is survived by nieces: Beatrice Phillips and husband Mark, Jeanne French and husband Randy, all of Coleman; nephews: Roy Dan Hoover and wife Becky of Coleman, Vernon Horn of Keller; sister-in-law, Dorothy Horn of Haltom City; special cousin, Juanita Roberson of Cisco; great-nieces, Kim Cupps and husband Joey of Santa Anna,  Lisa West and husband Gary of Katy, Johnnie French of Coleman, Connie Withers and husband Tomas of Coleman, Faith Hoover of Coleman; great nephews, Matthew French of Arlington, Brandon Hoover of Coleman; three great-great nephews and one great-great niece.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Roy and Mamie (Rains) Hoover of Cisco; sister and brother-in-law, Ruby Waldine Horn Hoover and  Reverend Daniel C. Hoover of Coleman; and brother, R. V. On Friday, June 11, 2004, after a 13 year battle with prostate cancer, Don Maynard Brown "went West" to join his family and many friends who preceded him.  By now, he and other members of the "Over the Hill Gang" are probably having a cool one and talking about the time Karo pointed a bird with a retrieved bird in his mouth. 

Don was born in Coleman, Texas, August 25, 1932, to Horace Walter Brown and Lella Otis Griffin Brown.  He grew up in Coleman and graduated from Coleman High School in 1949.  He served in the U. S. Navy from 1951 - 1954 during the Korean War and was discharged as Radarman 1st Class.  While in the Navy he traveled the world, went skiing in the Swiss Alps, and rode out Hurricane Carol during his last 4 days in the Navy before being discharged on September 2, 1954.  He was a Life Member of the Brownwood VFW Post 3278.  After being honorably discharged from the Navy, he enrolled in Texas Tech University on September 6, 1954, and worked his way through college eventually earning his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture in 1958.

On November 1, 1963, he married Christine Alford and moved to LaMarque, Texas, where he worked almost 20 years for the Texas Department of Health in the Oyster and Seafood Program ensuring the safety of fish, shellfish and oysters in Galveston Bay, surrounding saltwater areas, and fish processing houses.  While living on the Gulf Coast, he was an avid sport fisherman and competed in numerous local fishing tournaments.  He once caught a 615 pound Tiger Shark and nearly won first place in the tournament until a close friend came in at the last minute with a 775 pound Tiger Shark to win.  As a member of the Southeast Texas Sport Fishing Association, Gulf Coast Conservation Association, and a former employee of the Texas Department of Health Shellfish Division, he was a tireless advocate for the preservation of the coastal waters and the sport-fishing industry.  During his last few years in La Marque he was best known for his "Stirring the Pot" column in the La Marque Times.  He had a knack for cutting to the chase and stirring things up.  He wasn’t afraid to express his opinion and always stood by what he said. He meant what he said and he said what he meant.  In 1992, he and his wife Chris moved from La Marque to a ranch near Grosvenor, Texas, returning to their roots in West Texas.  He raised cattle, fished as often as he could, hunted anytime the season was open, and burned up the highways with Ed Graves in search of wherever the horses were running. 

At Don’s request, there will be no service held. In lieu of attending a funeral service, he instructs all who wish to drink a toast to all the good times and good memories.  Should friends desire, memorials may be sent to the M. D. Memorial services for Dee Dee Hudson will be Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 p. m. at Walker Funeral Home Chapel with Daniel Stovall, pastor of Concho Baptist Church and Paul Smith, pastor of Community Baptist Church, officiating, under the direction of Walker Funeral Home.  Dee Dee passed away Friday, June 11, 2004 at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene, Texas.

She was born in Cross Plains, Texas on May 13, 1947 to the late Dexter Jewell and Eula Faye Potter.  She married Dwight Hudson on August 19, 1967 in Coleman, Texas.  She received a BS Degree at Howard Payne University.  Dee Dee taught school at Santa Anna, Mozelle and Coleman for 30 years.  It is said she was the finest Special Education teacher who has ever passed through the doors of the Elementary School in Santa Anna.

She is survived by her husband, Dwight Hudson of Coleman; two daughters, Kathy Cole of Benbrook and Jefflyn Miller of Coleman; two sisters, Janice Wells of Santa Anna and Diane Brooks of Tuscola; and one grandson, Hudson Cole of Benbrook.  She was preceded in death by one brother, Allan Jewell.

Family visitation will be tonight (Tuesday) from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to the Dee Dee Hudson Scholarship Fund at the Santa Anna ISD in Santa Anna, Texas.

Ira Lee (Shorty) Henderson, age 84, of Lake Coleman, died Friday, June 11, 2004 at his residence.  Graveside funeral service will be held Tuesday at 10:00 a. m. at the Santa Anna Cemetery with Chaplain James Teel officiating.  Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Shorty was born May 27, 1920 in Big Spring, Texas and was a son of the late Ira Lee and May Henderson.   He grew up and attended school in Big Spring.  He served in the United States Army during World War II and received the Purple Heart for injuries sustained at the Battle of the Bulge.  Shorty was foreman of the Nivens Ranch at Lawn for many years and later lived in Clyde.  He moved to Lake Coleman in 1977.  He was a Methodist and a member of the VFW in Coleman.  He loved fishing and hunting.

Survivors include his wife, Mavis Henderson of Lake Coleman; two sisters, Velma Henderson and Odessa Henderson, both of Santa Anna; two step-children, Don Powers of Ratliff City, Oklahoma and Debra Drake of Cocoa Beach, Florida; two granddaughters, Kathy Cox of Kerrville, Texas and Dana Shipley of Kermit, Texas; three great-granddaughters; one great-grandson; two nephews, Larry Henderson of Big Spring and Eddie Henderson of Oklahoma.

Elmer Lloyd Fisher, age 79, of Coleman, died Saturday, June 12, 2004 at Coleman Healthcare Center.  Funeral service was held Monday at 2:00 p. m. in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Don Northway officiating.  Burial  followed in the Talpa Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Elmer Lloyd Fisher was born December 6, 1924 in Lubbock, Texas and was the son of Robert and Edith Shanks Fisher.   He grew up in Ralls and attended school there.  He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II and married Veoma Monroe on August 28, 1944 in Forks, Washington.  He lived in Lubbock and worked for the Highway Department, retiring in 1977.  He moved to Coleman in 1977 and was a member of Bible Baptist Church.  He was ordained as a deacon in 1967.

Survivors include his wife, Veoma Monroe Fisher of Coleman; one son and daughter-in-law, Bobby Joe and Tonja Fisher of Crandall, Texas; three grandchildren, Teresa Jo Fisher, Stanley Lloyd Fisher, Tasha; one great-grandson, Stanley Luke Fisher; one sister, Verna Louise Danklifs of Lubbock; one half-sister, Matilda Barby of Lubbock; two half-brothers, Hershell White of Tuscola and Maytlon White of Fort Worth.

He was preceded in death by two half-sisters, Veoma Maudine White and Juleta Lucas.  Memorials may be made to Bible Baptist Church, 1015 S. Commercial, Coleman, Texas 76834.

Troy Lee Wood, 92, died Sunday, June 13, 2004, at an Abilene nursing center.  Services will be 10 a. m. today (Tuesday) at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories in Abilene with Brother Paul Burnett and Brother Rudy Fambrough officiating.  Interment will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.

Troy was born July 29, 1911 to Avery V. and Katherine (Little) Wood in Moro Community, Taylor County, Texas.  He served in the  National Guard.  Troy married Bennie Jones on January 22, 1938 in Abilene, Texas.  He was a resident of Taylor County his entire life except for living in Wichita Falls, Texas for 13 years (1942-1955).  Troy worked with Dr. Pepper Bottling Company in sales;  AISD as a custodian; and as a teacher of vocational training at the Abilene State School where he retired.  He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.

Troy was preceded in death by his parents; his wife (July 15, 2000); three brothers and four sisters.  Survivors include two daughters, Peggy Baker and husband, James, of Abilene, Loma Gayle Gilbreth and husband, Otis, of Lake Coleman; four grandchildren, Chris Baker, Russell Baker, Vince Gilbreth, Tim Gilbreth; and nine great-grandchildren.

Kenneth Ray Taylor, loving husband and father, too early departed this world to rest in peace on Sunday, June 13, 2004.  Visitation will take place at the Taylor home on Thursday evening from 3:00 p. m. to 8:00 p. m., with a private burial at Evergreen Cemetery in Lipan, Texas, on Friday, June 18, 2004. 

His wife, Helen, their children and their families are left with many wonderful memories of him; Bryan Keith, his wife Caridad, their children Alexandra and Joshua; Cathy Nanette, her husband, Donald Nix and their children Taylor, Jason, Colin, Jared and Corey; Kenneth Craig and his wife Charla and their children Clayton and Kendall; Beverly Jo and her husband Brad West.  Other survivors include his mother Juanita Morris Holmes; and brothers, Ronald and Billy Taylor and Jimmy Duncan.

Ken was born on May 6, 1939, in Coleman, Texas.  He attended school in Coleman and Lubbock, Texas and was a graduate of Tom S. Lubbock High School.  His long entrepreneurial business career began delivering papers as a boy in Coleman to help make ends meet.  After high school, he soon discovered sales and eventually founded SAMSCO, which was one of the largest manufacturing representative firms in the Southwest.  After selling his interests in SAMSCO, Ken founded a start up enterprise that would grow into Continental Cabinets, Inc. which now supplies cabinets to some of the world's largest retailers.  Today Ken's company employs more than 500 associates in Southern Dallas and Lancaster, bringing jobs and growth to areas that needed his vision and help.  He was on the executive board of the Oak Cliff Chamber of Commerce and was their 2003 Business Person of the Year.  He will be remembered by many for his passion, determination and his integrity in business.  His word was his bond, his handshake a deal.  Ken was also a member of the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce and Oak Cliff Country Club.  He enjoyed being surrounded by his entire family on holidays and countless weekends aboard his boat, "Taylor Maid," on Lake Texoma.  To his beloved grandchildren he was "Pa."  His kind smile, quick humor and generosity will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Dorothy E. Stewart, 84, of Amarillo died Sunday, June 13, 2004.  Services were at 10:00 a.m. Thurs-day, June 17, 2004 in San Jacinto United Methodist Church.  Burial followed in Llano Cemetery by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors of Amarillo.

Mrs. Stewart was born in Moran on October 30, 1919 to Austin and Hattie Eaton.  She graduated from Peacock High School and Draughn¹s Business School. During World War II, she worked at Camp Barkley in Abilene where she met her husband, Frank. Frank and Dorothy were married in Dallas on January 19, 1947.  They resided in New York for a year before moving to Amarillo, where they lived for the past 56 years.  She worked at the Amarillo Globe-News for many years as an operator, retiring in 1985.  She had belonged to San Jacinto United Methodist Church since 1953.  She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Darwin and Delwin Eaton; and an infant son, Michael. 

Survivors include her husband; three children, Cynthia Thompson of Amarillo, Susan Stewart of Spring and Tim Stewart and wife, Elaine, of Fredericksburg; three grandchildren, James Thompson of Amarillo and Austin Stewart and Kate Stewart, both of Fredericksburg; a brother, Jim Eaton and wife, Margie, of Lake Coleman; and numerous nieces and nephews.

John C. Kindley, 90, a resident of Grace Presbyterian Village in Dallas, passed away on Monday, June 14th.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Saturday, June 19 at the Community Baptist Church in Coleman with Rev. Mr. Kindley was born in Hext, Texas on January 20, 1914.  Mr. Kindley served in the United States Marine Corp during World War II and achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant.  He was stationed in San Diego, California and had a tour of duty in Okinawa.  He was a longtime resident of Abilene and was employed by the Texas Highway Department from 1954 to 1976.  Upon retirement, he moved to Comanche Shores at Lake Coleman and later to Coleman where he lived until his wife's death in 1995.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Dora (Bowman) Kindley, mother, Ethel McGrew, father, G. W. Kindley, a half-sister, Thelma Homesley, and a niece, Bobbie Brewick, who was his caregiver for many years.

He is survived by a sister, Helen Tanner of Tallahassee, Florida, four nieces,Donna Osment of Aldeo, Texas, Jeanne Alexander of Tallahassee, Florida, Debbie Moe of Arizona, Rhonda Woodard of California and three nephews, David Thys and Greg Thys both of California, and Robert Bowman of Abilene, Texas.

Jack Burfield, age 63, of Coleman, died Tuesday, June 15, 2004, at Coleman Healthcare Center.  Graveside funeral service will be held at 10:00 a. m. Saturday, June 19 at the Coleman City Cemetery Pavilion with Rev. Rick Justice officiating.  Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

 Jack was born on January 26, 1941, in Coleman County, Texas, a son of the late Newton and Stella Wells Burfield.  He grew up in Coleman County and attended school in Coleman.  He served in the U. S. Army and was a plumber.

Survivors include one brother, L. C. (and wife Gladys) Burfield of Baird, Texas; sister-in-law, Billie Burfield of Coleman; nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by two children, Rhonda Burfield and Junior Burfield; three brothers and one sister, N. D., James, and Roy Burfield and Gertrude Winter.

Harvie Ray Tomme, age 61, of Wichita Falls, Texas passed away on Wednesday, June 16, 2004 in Wichita Falls.  Funeral services were held at 7:00 p. m. Monday at Ownes and Brumley Funeral Home Chapel in Wichita Falls.  Graveside services were held at 2:30 Tuesday at Coleman City Cemetery Pavilion with Sam Wilson officiating.  Henderson Funeral Home of Coleman was in charge of local arrangements.

Harvie was born March 17, 1943 in Dime Box, Texas to the late Samuel and Ruby Tomme.  He served four years in the U. S. Navy and had been a resident of Wichita Falls for the past 15 years.  Harvie was a member of the Church of Christ and an avid fisherman.  He was a custodian at the Wichita Falls Courthouse.

Survivors include a daughter, Lacey Jane Tomme of Wichita Falls; a son, Jesse Tomme of Tennessee; brother, Jessie Tomme of Texas; one grandchild; life companion, Teresa Willims and her daughters, Elizabeth Zarella and husband Mark and their daughter Tabby and Sierra-Wolfe and her husband, Jacob. 

Bob Zirkle, age 71, of San Angelo, died Wednesday, June 16, 2004 in a San Angelo hospital.  Memorial service was held at 11:00 a. m. Saturday in Johnson¹s Funeral Home Chapel with Oneal Westbrook officiating.  Interment followed in the Glen Cove Cemetery.

Bob was born July 25, 1932 in Santa Anna, Texas to Earl and Thelma Zirkle.  Bob was a US Air Force veteran, having served in the Korean Conflict.  He retired, after 30 years, with the Texas Department of Public Safety, where he served in security for the Governor¹s office.  Bob had been a resident of San Angelo since 1994.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, David Zirkle.  On June 5, 1952, he and Barbara Fowler were married in Coleman, Texas.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara, of the home; children Dana Zirkle of Austin and Janna Hudson and husband Hank of Midland; grandchildren, Harrison, Thomas and Patrick Hudson; a brother Don Zirkle of Austin and a sister, Linda Dove of Austin.

Alice Mae Edington, age 104, died Thursday, June 17, 2004 at her home in Albany, Texas.  Services were held on Sunday at 3 p. m. at the First Baptist Church of Albany with Rev. John Tunnell officiating.  Burial followed at 5:30 p. m. at the Burkett Cemetery, under the direction of Morehart Mortuary.

Alice Mae Godwin was born on May 31, 1900 in the Lannis Community of Fannin County, Texas to parents William Godwin and Ellen Ruth Green Godwin.  Alice married Dewey Edington on October 3, 1920 in Coleman County, Texas and he preceded her in death in 1932.  Alice worked as a caretaker and homemaker and had resided in Albany since 1946.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; one son, Bill Edington, who died in 1978; seven sisters and four brothers. She is survived and lovingly remembered by her daughter, Virginia Baker of Albany; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Alice Edington Scholarship Fund. Memorials may be left at Morehart Mortuary.

On Wednesday, Juen 23rd, at 3:14 p. m. Coleman Chief of Police Steve Vail advised by a news release that on Thursday, June 17th, the Coleman Police Department discovered a deceased inmate in the Coleman City Jail.  The deceased was identified as Erik Michael Terrazas of Coleman County, Texas.  Mr. Terrazas was being held on Coleman County warrants and other Taylor and Brown County warrants.  The body was sent to Dallas, Texas for an autopsy.  Results of the autopsy report had not been received as of June 23rd.  Texas Rangers are investigating the incident.    (signed)  Steve Vail, Chief of Police, Coleman, Texas

Erik Terrazas Salas, age 25, of Coleman, died Thursday, June 17, 2004 in Coleman.  Funeral service was held on Monday at 2:00 p. m. in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial followed in the Coleman Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Erik was born June 2, 1979 in Abilene, Texas, a son of Yvonne (Bonnie) Salas and Charles Salas.  He grew up in Coleman and attended school in Coleman.  He had been a factory worker.

Survivors include his parents, Yvonne (Bonnie) and Charles Salas of Coleman; daughter, Alaysia Pamela Terrazas of Coleman; two brothers, Keith (Crickett) Owen and David Michael Liggins, both of Abilene; four sisters, Jennifer Liggins Bank and husband Orlando, LaShawn Liggins McClain and husband Kenneth (Dee), LaToya Salas Thomas and husband Chad, all of Abilene and Ericka Salas Davis and husband Shawn of Coleman; grandmother, Mary Salas of Coleman; 17 nieces and nephews; and ex-girlfriend.  He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jimmy and Chana Terrazas and Frank Salas.

Vera M. McDowell, age 102, of Coleman, died Friday, June 18, 2004 at Coleman County Medical Center.  Funeral service was held on Monday at 11:00 a. m. at the Elm Street Church of Christ with her son-in-law, Edward James officiating, assisted by Joe Hailey and Donald Ross Williams.  Interment followed at the Coleman City Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

She was born Vera Montgomery on February 14, 1902, a daughter of James W. and Carrie Phillips Montgomery.  As a small child she moved with her family to Cross Plains where she attended school and graduated as Valedictorian of her class.  On October 26, 1919 she married William McDowell in Cross Plains and he preceded her in death on March 16, 1989.  Mrs. McDowell has lived in Coleman County since 1921 and in Coleman since 1923.  She was a school teacher for seven years and during World War II worked at the Coleman Post Office.  She was a homemaker and a member of Elm Street Church of Christ.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Eldon and Marjorie McDowell of Hurst, Texas; one daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Edward James of Waco, Texas; three grandchildren, Mary Lewis and husband Max, Bill McDowell and wife Jan, Sally Kempff and husband Pieter; six great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Edith McIntosh and Sylvia Evrage, both of San Antonio; long-time family friends, Sylvia Watson and Jacob Isaac.  She was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Brandon Clark Presley.  Memorials may be made to Elm Street Church of Christ, P. O. Box 998, Coleman, Texas 76834.

Pallbearers were Wayne Crye, Melton Kennedy, Lucien Love, Bill Casselberry, Pete Floyd and Louis Pittard.  Honorary pallbearers included Kyle Lewis, Raylene Lewis, Nathan McDowell, Bill McDowell, Derek Presley, Kevin Lewis, Tracy Smoot and Larren Smoot.

Mrs. Freda Mae Hindman McGuckin, 99 years of age, daughter of the late George and Bertie Jameson Hindman, born April 10, 1905 in Coleman, passed away June 18, 2004 in the Coleman Care Center.  Services will be 11 a. m. Friday at the Coleman City Cemetery Pavilion with Rev. Father Larry Cyr of Sacred Heart Catholic Church officiating, with interment to follow in Coleman City Cemetery, under the direction of Walker Funeral Home.

Mrs. McGuckin had lived her early life in Coleman and married the late C. A. McGuckin in Coleman on April 11, 1931.  He preceded her in death in 1966.  She had retired after doing secretary work for many years and moving back to Coleman in 1969.  Freda was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Survivors include three nieces, Mrs. Gail Hindman Jordan of Edna, Mrs. Susan Hindman Shaw of Victoria and Mrs. Mary Ann Roark of West Monroe, Louisiana; three nephews, John Hindman Ferguson of Florida, Robert Ferguson of Belton and James Ferguson of Florida; and a local cousin, Lucien Love of Coleman.

Services for Mazel A. Mobley, 82, of Bangs were held at 10 a. m. Monday at Bangs First Baptist Church with Dr. Lee Evans officiating.  Interment followed in the Bangs Cemetery.  Davis - Morris Funeral Home of Brownwood was in charge of arrangements.  Mrs. Mobley died Friday, June 18, 2004.

She was born August 8, 1916 and had lived in Bangs for 50 years.  She was a member of the Bangs First Baptist Church and was a teacher at Talpa-Centennial School for 19 years.  She was preceded in death by two husbands, Frank Haynes and Jake Mobley; and one brother, David Alley.

Survivors include one brother, Ira Alley, of Everett, Washington; a sister, Edith Dodson and her husband, Freddie, of Santa Anna; one stepson, Darrell Mobley of Bangs; six step grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Joyce Alley of Brownwood and numerous nieces and nephews.

Rubye R. Wenzel, age 95, of Santa Anna, died Friday, June 18, 2004 at her residence.  Funeral service will be today (Tuesday) at 2:00 p. m. in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

She was born Rubye Raye Davis on June 15, 1909 in Santa Anna, Texas, a daughter of C. W. and Esther Waggoner Davis.  She grew up in Coleman where she attended school.  She received her B. S. degree from North Texas State University and her M. Ed degree from Texas Woman's University.  On July 4, 1940 she married Carl Phillip Wenzel in Oklahoma and he preceded her in death on November 18, 1985.  She lived in Fort Worth for many years where she taught elementary, high school and adult education.  She moved to Santa Anna in 1971 and was an active member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.  She was a member of the Texas Retired Teacher Association and a Permanent Member of PTA.

Survivors include one son, Phillip David Wenzel of Racine, Wisconsin: numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by two daughters, Joan Church and Martha Schliska; four sisters, Stella Sanford, Ila Sanderson, Lillian King and Elva Jacobs.

Her family would especially like to thank the wonderful caregivers who took such loving care of Rubye: Bobbie Madlock, Dolly Jackson, Regina Mason, Melisha San Juan, Laura Keeney and Peggy Swindall.

Mary Love Griffin, 89 of Palacios died June 18, 2004 at the DeTar Hospital in Victoria, Texas.  Funeral services were 2 p.m. Monday at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel with Reverends Ray Wells and Charlie Parker officiating.  Interment will follow Wednesday at 2 p. m. at the Gouldbusk Cemetery Pavilion with Rev. Kermit Sorrells officiating and interment to follow.  Local arrangements are by Walker Funeral Home of Coleman.

She was born November 14, 1914 in Gouldbusk, Coleman County, Texas to the late Laroy Hunton (Mr. Pearl) and Effie Elizabeth Thweatt Griffith.  Mrs. Griffin had been a resident of Palacios since 1949 and was a member of the First United Methodist Church.  She was a retired school teacher from the Palacios ISD with some 30 years of service.  She was a member of the DAR, Texas Chapter No. 6-124 and a member of the Athena Club; librarian for the First United Methodist Church, a member of the Palacios and Matagorda County Historical Society and was docent for the Palacios Historical Museum for many years.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Tommy and Clara Griffin and Larry and Marjorie Griffin, all of Palacios; a sister, Emma Nell "Sing" Downey of Coleman; four grandchildren, Christopher Griffin and wife Jamie of Austin, Nicholas, Francisco and Terry Ross of North Dakota and two great-granddaughters.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Fabrian Alva Griffin.

Graveside services will be held for Juanita Marie Stovall Spruiell at 2:00 p. m. Friday, June 25, 2004 at the Gouldbusk Community Cemetery, Gouldbusk, Texas, with Rev. Daniel Stovall officiating.  She died in Dallas, Dallas County, Texas on Tuesday, June 21, 2004 at age 93 from complications of advanced age and diabetes.  Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home of Coleman, Texas.  Family visitation will be from 6:00 p. m. to 8:00 p. m. today (Thursday) at the funeral home.

Mrs. Spruiell was born in Silver Valley, Coleman County, Texas, January 30, 1911, to Willie West Gipson and Emery George Stovall.  She was the first of nine children born to the family.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Elgene (Joe) Spruiell in 1987 and who was originally from Gouldbusk.  They were married 54 years.  Her son, Joe Kent Spruiell, died in 1947.  Reared in Silver Valley, Mrs. Spruiell attended local schools.  After graduation, she attended Stephenville College and received a teaching certificate.  She taught briefly in the old Harding School in south Coleman County.  It was during this time that she met and married Joe Spruiell.  They began their marriage in Gouldbusk where Joe¹s father, Sam Houston Spruiell was a community physician and his then-deceased mother, Ella Cox, was a daughter of John Will Cox and Lou Harrison Cox, pioneer settlers and ranchers in south Coleman County.  His step-mother was Carrie Harrison (Tal) Reeves Spruiell ("Miss Carrie"), who ran the Gouldbusk Drug Store until her death.  At the beginning of World War II, upon her husband joining the U. S. Navy Reserves, they left the area permanently.  They lived in St. Louis, Missouri during his advanced naval medical training.  When Mr. Spruiell shipped out for the South Pacific, Mrs. Spruiell lived with her immediate family in Andrews, Texas, and eventually in Lubbock, Texas.  The Spruiells continued to live in Lubbock until 1964 whereupon they moved to Arlington, Texas.  Other than a brief teaching career in Coleman County, Mrs. Spruiell had a varied work career.  She was a long-time employee of a Lubbock drugstore then became a banking clerk for Citizens' National Bank for a number of years.  She then began her career as a librarian assistant at the State of Texas Library System at Texas Tech University, later transferring and retiring from the library system at UT Arlington.  While living in Lubbock, the Spruiell's were devoted members of the First Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School Teacher to 13 year old girls for a number of years.  While living in Arlington, they were long-time members of the Fielder Road Baptist Church.  After Mr. Spruiell¹s death, Mrs. Spruiell made her home near or with her daughter in Collinsville, Texas and later Edmond, Oklahoma.  As her health declined, she moved to Retirement Inn on Forest Lane, Dallas, Texas, an independent living center where she remained until her death.

As well as her husband and son, Mrs. Spruiell survived her brothers and sisters, Glenn Stovall, Fred Stovall, Virgil Stovall Wootton, Mary Sue Stovall Gibb, Joy Stovall Crosby and Imogene Stovall.  One sister, Patsy Stovall Brookmole of Midland, survives her.  Also surviving is her daughter, Karen Louise Spruiell Neimeth and her husband, Bruce Neimeth, of the Dallas area.  Three grandchildren, Greg, Neimeth of Little Rock, Arkansas, Kent Brumitt and wife Kathy as well as Kim K. Caster and life partner, Kimberly Truax also survive. Mrs. Spruiell also enjoyed two great grandchildren, Rachel and Craig.  Her extended family includes 10 direct nieces and two nephews plus numerous life long friends.

The family wishes to extend a specific and grateful thank you to Michelle Campbell, her very spiritual and devoted personal attendant.  Mrs. Spruiell is to be buried in the Spruiell, Cox, Norwood and Hunt Family Plot.  The family requests in lieu of any memorials, you call a loved one to say hello or perhaps take a loved one to dinner.  Even at age 93, time is fleeting. 

Neal Richard Oakes, age 91, of Stephenville, Texas (formerly of Coleman, Texas) passed away Tuesday June 22, 2004 at a Stephenville hospital.  Graveside services were Thursday at 1:00 p. m. at the Santa Anna Cemetery with Rev. Ronnie Barnett officiating.  Henderson Funeral Home of Santa Anna was in charge of local arrangements.

Neal was born June 19, 1913 in Santa Anna to the late John McPeters and Mary Kate Neal Oakes.  He married Helen Lucille Upton on June 6, 1933 in Santa Anna and they had celebrated seventy-one years of marriage.  Neal was a member of the Baptist Church, Lions Club, Past Master of Santa Anna Masonic Lodge and past District Deputy of the Grand Lodge of Texas.  He owned the Piggly Wiggly Grocery in Winters, Texas until his retirement.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Lucille Oakes of Stephenville, Texas; a son, Don and wife Marjorie of Stephenville, Texas; two sisters, Marjorie Oakes Dolan of Tyler, Texas and Mary Oakes Lowder of San Antonio, Texas; a brother, Leon Wilbur Oakes; granddaughter, Susan Ramsdell of Waco, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Deborah Ramsdell, Matthew Ramsdell and Christopher Ramsdell, all of Waco, Texas.  Neal was preceded in death by a son Neal Richard Oakes, Jr., on June 2, 1935 

Mrs. Johnie (Dick) Deal, age 96, of Rockwood, Texas passed away Thursday, June 24, 2004 at the Twilight Nursing Home in Bangs, Texas.  Services were Sunday at 2:00 p. m. at the Rockwood Baptist Church with Rev. Maurice Smith officiating.  Interment will follow at the Rockwood Cemetery directed by Henderson Funeral Home of Santa Anna.  The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:00 till 8:00 p. m. at Henderson Funeral Home.

Johnie was born May 28, 1908 in Millet, Texas to the late John Ireland and Fannie Smith Ellis. S he was a lifetime resident of Rockwood and graduated in 1925 from the Rockwood High School.  On June 24, 1925 Johnie married Richard Joel "Dick" Deal in Santa Anna and they celebrated 74 years of marriage.  Dick preceded her in death on April 21, 1999.  Johnie was a member of the Rockwood Baptist Church and a homemaker.

Survivors include a daughter, Dixie Deal Perry of Denham Springs, Louisiana; two sons, Gene Deal of Weatherford, Texas and Johnny Deal of Bangs, Texas; a sister, Leno Siler; 19 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-granddaughters. Johnie was preceded in death by four sons: Billy Raymond Deal, Ellis Deal, Joe Charles Deal and Roland Deal. Pallbearers were Don Deal, Harold Deal, Larry Deal, Kerry Deal, Rick Deal, Greg Perry, Chad Perry, Ronnie Deal, Randy Deal, David Deal and John Deal.

Harold Freeman, 88, of Denton, died Thursday, June 24, 2004 at his residence.  Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 26, 2004 at Denton Baptist Temple with Rev. George Ander-son officiating, assisted by Junior Norris.  Interment followed at 3:00 p. m. at Cross Plains Cemetery, Cross Plains, Texas.  Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Freeman was born November 14, 1915 in Cross Plains, Texas to John Clinton and Beulah B. (Cavin) Freeman.  He attended school in Dressy, Texas and served in the Army Air Corps during WWII.  He married Annabelle Barron on December 13, 1944 in Abilene, Texas.  He was retired from the George Implement/ John Deere Tractor Company.  He was a member and deacon of Denton Baptist Temple.

Survivors include his daughter, Lawana Robinson of Denton; son, Clint Freeman of Grand Prairie; two grandchildren, Kimberley Ann Freeman and Jonathan Edward Freeman. He was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers, and his wife of fifty-nine years, Annabelle Freeman (she died February 28, 2004). 

Weldon Lucas, age 92 of Thrifty, in Brown County, died Sunday, June 27, 2004 at Holiday Hill Nursing Home.  Graveside services were 11:00 a. m. Monday, June 28, 2004 at Mud Creek Cemetery, in Brown County, with Moises Maldonado officiating.  Services were under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home, Coleman, Texas.

Mr. Lucas was born January 22, 1912 in Concord, Coleman County, Texas, a son of Clyde Lucas and Vera Sheffield Lucas.  He grew up in Coleman County and attended school in Santa Anna.  He married Thelma Pasley on June 14, 1933.  During World War 11, Mr. Lucas was an Army Air Corps Flying Instructor at the Coleman and Brady Flying Schools.  He was a long-time resident of Coleman and Brown Counties, was a rancher, businessman, automobile dealer and a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, Thelma Lucas of Thrifty; one daughter, Dolores McCoury of Thrifty; four grandchildren, Kenny Day of Oceanside, California, Monty Day of Dallas, Jeff Day of Brownwood, Sari DeVries of Thrifty, 11 great-grandchildren, Sunny Deeds, Niki White, Krista Ford, Kenda Root, Dustin Day, Laci Day, Jeffery Day, Abby Day, Stephanie Studdard, Shanna Studdard, Martin DeVries; five great-great grandchildren, Kylee Deeds, Hannah Deeds, Presley Deeds, Tyler Ford and Aniston White.  Mr. Lucas was preceded in death by one grandson, Barry Day, in December, 1986.

John Alfred Decker, 63, of San Angelo passed away Monday, June 28, 2004 at his residence.  Rosary was recited at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 29th in Johnson¹s Funeral Home Chapel.  Funeral mass was held at 10:00 a. m. Wednesday, June 30th in Holy Angels Catholic Church with Father Charles Greenwell officiating.  Burial followed in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.

John was born December 12, 1940 in Menard, Texas to John Joseph and Gladys Juanita Decker.  He attended grade school in Menard, Texas and moved to Talpa, Texas in 1955, where he participated in all athletic programs.  He graduated in 1959 as valedictorian from Talpa-Centennial High School.  John worked at Home Hardware on Beauregard and later managed the store on North Chadbourne Street.  Due to a shoulder injury, he changed career paths and decided to return to college to complete his degree.  John received a B. A. Degree from Angelo State University.  He had been a dedicated employee of GTE/Verizon, since March 1981.  John was married to Linda Proffitt on February 16, 1962 in Ballinger, Texas.

Survivors include his wife Linda Decker of San Angelo; son Chad Decker and wife Debra of Magnolia, Texas; mother "Dulce" Decker of Talpa, Texas; brothers Mike Decker and wife Patti of San Angelo and Phil Decker and wife JoAnna of Rockport, Texas; sister Dinah Taff and husband Howard of Ballinger, Texas; grandchildren Kelsey and Catie Bates of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Paige and Reid Decker of Magnolia, Texas; sisters-in-law Brenda Green and husband William of Winters, Texas and Dolores Hinson and husband B. J. of Brownwood, Texas; brother-in-law Gary Proffitt and wife Wilmalene of Goldthwaite, Texas; numerous special nieces and nephews as well as numerous friends.

John was preceded in death by his daughter Regina Bates and his father John J. Funeral services were held July 2, 2004 in a Dallas Methodist church for a Santa Anna native, Lorraine Parsons Brooks, age 83.  She died June 28, 2004 at her home and burial was in Dallas.

Lorraine was born April 27, 1921, in Cross Plains, Texas, the second child born to the late Louis and Jessie Mae Thomas Parsons. She was a member of the Methodist Church and was a 1939 graduate of Santa Anna High School. She and her husband made their home in Houston until his death and she then moved to Dallas and worked with her sister in the tax business.

Survivors include a niece, Melanie Speck Harris and her husband William and children Ryan and Melissa of Carrollton, Texas; a great nephew; and several cousins. She was preceded in death by parents, Louis F. Parsons and Jessie Mae Thames Parsons; husband, William Brooks; brother, Louis Atwell Parsons, sister, Emma Kate Parsons Speck.

Thelma Lou Price, age 95, died Tuesday, June 29, 2004 at The Woodlands Health Care Center.  Funeral service will be Friday at 4:00 p. m. in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joe Waldrop officiating.  Burial will follow in the Santa Anna Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

She was born Thelma Lou Boyd on March 20, 1909 in Mansfield, Texas, a daughter of John Shepherd Boyd and Annie Wilson Boyd.  She grew up in Gouldbusk and Coleman where she attended school, graduating from Coleman High School in 1927.  On May 20, 1929 she married Joe Collin Price in Coleman and he preceded her in death on March 23, 1981.  Thelma lived in Abilene for 20 years and then moved to Kingsland where she lived for 35 years.  She moved back to Abilene for one year before moving to The Woodlands in 2001.  She was a member of Kingsland Community Church, Highland Lakes Luncheon Club, Eastern Star and Kingsland Arts and Crafts Guild.

Survivors include two children, Joe Sealy Price, Sr. and wife Elizabeth of Crosby, Texas and Annabelle Selman and husband Elvis of The Woodlands; daughter-in-law, Fran Price of Houston and son-in-law, Alford England of Abilene; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Family visitation will be held on Friday at Stevens Funeral Home from 2:00 p. m. until service time.  Pallbearers were Michael Kesler, Austin Kesler, Mike Price, Roy LaBuff, Jarnett Price and Joe Price, Sr.

Mavis Sellers, age 79, of Santa Anna, died Tuesday, June 29, 2004 at Holiday Hill Nursing Home.  Funeral service will be held on Friday at 2:00 p. m. in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial will follow in the Santa Anna Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

She was born Mavis Ludell Matthews on June 29, 1925 in Hale Center, Texas, a daughter of the late Roger William Matthews and Ethel Rose Jackson Matthews.  She grew up in Santa Anna and Bangs and attended school there.  On September 25, 1939 she married Otho J. Fowler in Santa Anna and he preceded her in death.  She married Harry Satterfield in 1952 in Hobbs, New Mexico and he died in 1969.  On February 14, 1995 she married Guy Sellers in Monahans and he survives her.  Mavis lived in Hobbs, New Mexico, Houston, Thrifty and Monahans before moving to Coleman a year ago.  She was a bookkeeper for many years in several different oil companies, including Dominey Oil Company of Coleman and Santa Anna.  She was a Methodist, a member of the Elks Lodge in Hobbs, New Mexico and Brownwood and was a State Officer in the DOES in New Mexico.  Mavis worked with ceramics, loved to hunt and fish, loved baseball and all sports.  She attended the Methodist Church.
