Frank Elwood Dunn, age 82, of Carlsbad, passed away Tuesday, March 2, 2004 in a local nursing facility.

He was born June 18, 1921 in Stacy, Texas to Robert and Helen Monroe Dunn.  He served in the United States Army.  Frank married Billie Louise Williams on December 12, 1942 in Valera.  He was very talented and performed many jobs in his lifetime, but most enjoyed making cabinets and furniture.

He is survived by his wife, Billie Dunn; daughter Tracee Machelle Hester of Porterville, California; grandsons: David Frank Hutchins of Carlsbad and Lance Cpl. Michael Shawn Hutchins of Okinawa, Japan; sister, Helen Roberta Wallace of San Angelo; and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Frank Dunn, Jr.; and a brother, Doss Monroe Dunn.

Family visitation will be Friday from 6 - 8 p. m. at Johnson¹s Funeral Home in San Angelo.  Graveside service will be Saturday at 2:00 p. m. in the Coleman City Cemetery.

Nettie E. Davis, age 88, of Coleman, died Wednesday, March 3, 2004 at Holiday Hill Nursing Home.  Funeral service will be held 2:00 p. m. Friday, March 5, 2004 in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Joe Hailey officiating.  Private interment will follow at the Coleman City Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

She was born Nettie Wesson on October 31, 1915 in Marlin, Texas, a daughter of the late J. R. Wesson and Dessie Lee Bowen Wesson.  She grew up in Coleman and attended school here.  On August 14, 1937 she married Walter Davis in Coleman and he preceded her in death on November 13, 1967.  She worked at M System as a checker for many years and later as a nurse’s aide at Holiday Hill.  She was a member of Elm Street Church of Christ.

Survivors include three sons, Robert Knowles of Garland, Texas, Dalton L. Davis of Coleman and Donald and wife Sue Davis of Abilene; one daughter, Betty and husband Kenneth Hunter of Coleman; 13 grandchildren; 25 great- grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Marguerite "Margie" Gibson Tinney, 85, of Brownwood were held at 2 p. m. Saturday at Davis - Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Brownwood with Revs. Jerry Totty and A.L. Creel officiating.  Burial followed in the Indian Creek Cemetery in Brown County under the direction of Davis - Morris Funeral Home of Brownwood.  Mrs. Tinney passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2004 at Brownwood Regional Medical Center.

She was born in Somersville, Texas on July 23, 1918 to the late Byron George and Leola Isabel Williams Gibson.  She married E.V. "Red," Tinney on February 9, 1958, in Brownwood.  He preceded her in death in May of 1981.  She had worked in Brownwood as a nurse's aide and also worked at Chandler Auto Supply.  She was a member of the New Beginnings Pentecostal Church of God in Brownwood.  She had been a resident of Brownwood since 1929, formerly of Milano, Texas.

Survivors include three daughters, Georgann Humble and husband Bert, of Winters, Connie Jean Harless of Bedford and Sharon Allgood of Brownwood; one sister, Rovena Handy of Coleman; one step-daughter, Clydine Martin of Boonesville; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, E. V. "Red" Tinney; her parents, Byron George and Leola Isabel Gibson; one brother, William ³Bill² Gibson; one son, Jerry Wayne Wright; one step-son, Harmon Tinney; and one son-in-law, Wayne Allgood.

Rosemary Parsons, age 78 of Coleman, died Friday, March 5, 2004 in San Angelo.   Funeral services was held at 2:00 p. m. Sunday, March 7, 2004 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gary Boyd officiating.  Burial followed in the Santa Anna Cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Mrs. Parsons was born September 16, 1925 in the Liberty community in Coleman County.  She grew up in Liberty and graduated from Coleman High School.  She later graduated from Howard - Payne University with Bachelor of Education and Master of Education degrees.  She married Bennie Parsons in Brownwood on August 23, 1947.  He preceded her in death on June 10, 1978.  Mrs. Parsons taught school for 34 years in Amarillo, Bangs, Cross Roads, Burkett, Talpa-Centennial and Coleman.  She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Retired Teachers Association and Fellowship Baptist Church.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Randy Ward of Llano; one brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Wayne and Lavelle Parsons of Temple; three grandchildren, Ryan Ward of San Angelo, Christy and Allyson Ward of Llano; one great-grandchild, Lane Ward of San Angelo; one niece, three nephews and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Marjorie Duggins.  Pallbearers were Harold Phillips, Bill Sneed, Bill Casselberry, Joe Dan LeMay, Anthony Strawn and Wayne McClure.

Lee Ray Huggins passed from this life on Friday, March 5, 2004 at 1:15 a. m. at Coleman County Medical Center at the age of 83 years, 3 months and 1 day.  Services were Sunday at 2:00 p. m. at the First Baptist Church in Santa Anna with Rev. Bruce Hess and Rev. Raymond Jones officiating.  Interment followed at the Cleveland Cemetery under the direction of Henderson Funeral Home of Santa Anna.

Lee Ray was born December 4, 1920 in Coleman County to the late Thomas L. and Addie McHorse Huggins.  He was a lifetime resident of Coleman County graduating in 1939 from Mozelle High School.  Lee Ray served his country in the United State Air Force as a veteran of World War II with the 82nd fighter group.  On September 27, 1946 he married Syble Phillips in Coleman and they had celebrated fifty-seven years of marriage.  A member of the First Baptist Church he served as Sunday School Jr. Dept. teacher and was also a 45 year member of the Santa Anna Volunteer Fire Department serving as Fire Marshall, Asst. Chief and Chief.  He was active in Cub Scouts, served as Boy Scout Master and coached little league.  Lee Ray owned and operated Huggins Exxon retiring in 1982, then he was employed with the Santa Anna ISD.

Survivors include his wife, Syble Huggins of Santa Anna, Texas; two sons, Phillip Ray and wife Gwen Huggins of Coleman, Texas and David Lee and wife Marilyn Huggins of Santa Anna, Texas; one sister, Mildred Cammack of Santa Anna, Texas; three grandchildren; and five great-grandsons. He was preceded in death by his twin sister, Leta Faye Elliott; a sister, Lois Robbins and half brother, Cecil Townsley.

Pallbearers for his funeral were Roddy Dean, Freddie Dodson, Elgean Harris, Jim Howard, Randy Long, Pete Rutherford, Donald Strickland, Vernon Rowe.  Honorary pallbearers were deacons of the First Baptist Church and member of Santa Anna Volunteer Fire Department.

Roy Monroe Kerbow, age 78 of Abilene and former Coleman County resident died Friday, March 5, 2004 at Hendrick Medical Center.  Funeral service was 4:00 p. m. Sunday, March 7, 2004 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel in Coleman with Gary Williams officiating.  Burial followed in the Coleman City Cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Mr. Kerbow was born February 28, 1926 in Brownwood, a son of Johnny Edward and Rosa Lee Forehand Kerbow.  He grew up and attended school in Gouldbusk.  He served in the United States Army during World War II.  He married Olivia "Tookie" Sparks in Coleman on July 5, 1945.  She preceded him in death on July 6, 1980.  He moved to Abilene in 1974 from Coleman County and did custom combining in the summer all over Texas.

Survivors include one daughter, Donna Obar of Hurst, Texas; two sons, Timothy Roy Kerbow of Houston, Tony Kerbow and wife Kathy of Baird; one brother, Buster Kerbow of Magnolia, Texas; one sister-in-law, Edna Tisdale of Coleman; one brother-in-law, R. C. Sparks of Coleman; six grandchildren, Tammy and Tiffany Obar of Hurst, Texas, Jim Kerbow of Rogers, Texas, Travis Kerbow and wife Tatum of Weatherford, Adrienne Kerbow of Goldthwaite, Heather Kerbow of San Angelo; one great-grandchild, Kaden Kerbow of Weatherford and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and two sisters, Viola Brannon and Marie Garner. Pallbearers were Jim Kerbow, Travis Kerbow, Stuart Bell, Jason Honrud, Luke Moody and Gregg Ryan Ruffin. Honorary pallbearer was Sid Hicks.

Jason Kight, age 19, of Coleman died Sunday, March 7, 2004 at his residence.   Funeral service will be 6:30 p. m. Friday, March 12, 2004 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel.  The body will be cremated.  Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Jason was born December 27, 1984 in Hutchinson, Kansas, a son of John David and Teresa Ann Northway Kight.  He grew up in Abilene, Novice and Coleman and attended school at Novice High School where he played football and Coleman High School.  He enjoyed singing and all the youth activities at Bible Baptist Church, where he was a member.

Jason is survived by his parents, John and Teresa Kight of Coleman; one brother Jonathon Kight of Coleman; one sister, Krystal Kight of Coleman; grandparents, Dr. Don and Myrt Northway of Coleman, Rev. Ernie and Carolyn Kight of Abilene; great-grandparents, Carl and Annabelle Schmitz Webb of Iola, Kansas and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Andrew John (A. J.) Kight in June, 2001 and great-grandparents, George Schmitz, Cecil and Lila Beeson, Otis and Elizabeth Smith and Scott and Gladys Northway.  Family visitation will be from 6:00 p. m. to 8:00 p. m. today (Thursday) at the funeral home.  The family requests that memorials be made to the Bible Baptist Church Sound System Fund, 1015 South Commercial, Coleman, Texas 76834.  Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Kraker, Brandon Bouldin, Brandon French, Nathan French, Travis French and Collin Duett.

Lora Gene Awalt, 73, of San Angelo, passed away Sunday, March 7, 2004 at her residence.  Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p. m. today (Tuesday, March 9, 2004) in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens with family member Reverend Jimmy Hester officiating.

Lora Gene was born on March 29, 1930 in Coleman, Texas to M. L. and Alma Marrs.  She graduated from Coleman High School and attended Tarleton State College in Stephenville.  She married Sidney Bryson Awalt on December 4, 1949.  He preceded her in death November 18, 2001.  She retired from GTE Directories on September 30, 1987 after 25 years of employment.  She volunteered as a seamstress for the Angelo Civic Theatre and was also active at Rio Concho West where she enjoyed spending time with many friends.  She was a Methodist.

Lora Gene is survived by a son, Randy Awalt and wife Louise of San Angelo; daughter, Cheryl Lindemann and husband David of Austin; five brothers, Johnny Marrs and wife Sue, Mayo Marrs and wife Sue, Don Marrs and wife Melba, Jimmy Marrs and wife Barbara and Bobby Marrs and wife Inez; sister, Janette Kavalcik and husband Frances; four grandchildren, Marji Morris, David Adams, Amy Lindemann and Chase Lindemann; four great-grandchildren, Tye Morris, Ivy Morris, Leanne Grothe and Isabella Christoffer and a special little friend, Suzie.

Her husband; parents, M. L. and Alma Marrs; brother, Billy Frank Marrs and sisters, Patsy Marrs Annette Marrs and Mary Kennedy preceded her in death.  Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of San Angelo.

Walter Raleigh Bruton, Sr., 76, of Coleman, died Tuesday, March 9, at an Abilene hospital.  Funeral services will be held today (Thursday, March 11) at 10:00 a. m. at the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel in Clyde with Rev. Daniel Stovall and Rev. Billy Sellers officiating.  Burial will follow in the Belle Plains Cemetery.

Mr. Bruton was born April 12, 1927 in Belle Plains to Charlie Wright and Myrtle Kanady Bruton.  He grew up and attended school at Belle Plains, Bayou and Baird.  He married Rosalee Roberts in 1948 in Lawn.  She preceded him in death in 1972.  He married Sandra Pricer November 18, 1984 in Baird.  They moved to Coleman in 1997 from Clyde.  He was a woodcutter and a member of the Southside Baptist Church in Clyde.  He served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra of Coleman; four sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Glenda Bruton of Brownwood, Walter Jr. and Beth Bruton of Comanche, Lawrence Bruton of Clyde, and Howard and Sharon Bruton of Axtell; one step-son, Len Clawson of Coleman; and one step-daughter, Tessa Gray of Coleman; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Juanita Holland Waldon, age 82 of Coleman, Texas formerly of Odessa, Texas passed away Wednesday, March 10, 2004 at 2:25 a. m. at the Coleman County Medical Center.  Graveside services will be Friday at 2:00 p. m. at the Bangs Cemetery with Rev. Art Allen officiating under the direction of Henderson Funeral Home of Santa Anna.  Family will receive friends Thursday from 6:30 to 7:30 p. m. at Henderson Funeral Home.

Juanita was born February 25, 1922 at Bangs, Texas to the late Henry and Sally Blanch Byars Clearman.  She was reared in Bangs where she attended the Bangs Schools.  In 1940 Juanita married Wayne Holland in Brownwood and he preceded her in death in 1959.  She married Lowell Waldon in Odessa in 1961 and he preceded her in death in 1998.  Juanita was a resident of Odessa from 1958 until 2001, at that time moving to Coleman.  She worked for Furr’s Supermarket until retirement in 1964 and was a member of the Methodist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Donna Cummings and Janice Greathouse, both of Coleman, Texas; a son, Roger Waldon of Odessa, Texas; a granddaughter, Shelly and husband David Robinett of Santa Anna, Texas; great grandchildren, Shyler and wife Davi’a Farley of Santa Anna, Texas; Caylie Robinett of Santa Anna, Texas; nieces, Joe McKinzey of Memphis, Tennessee and Jeanne Henderson of Odessa, Texas; and her campanion, Harley.  She was preceded in death by a grandson, Tommy Greathouse in 1974; and two sisters and two brothers.

William Nathan Barkemeyer, age 51, of Blackwell, died Thursday morning, March 11, 2004 at his home.  A memorial service was held at 1:00 p. m. Sunday, March 14 in Blackwell with Tem Barrett officiating.

William Barkemeyer was born April 27, 1952 in Cameron, Texas.  He was the son of Willie Otto Barkemeyer and Gladys Barkemeyer Smith.  He grew up in Coleman County and attended Coleman schools.  On February 14, 1989 he married Leanne Barrett Parvin.  William Barkemeyer was a graduate of San Angelo State University and was employed as a teacher at the American Commercial College for six years.

Survivors include his wife, Leanne Barkemeyer of Blackwell; a sister, Barbara Lane of Woodbury, Minnesota; a mother-in-law, Bobbi Barrett Varnadore of Blackwell; two daughters, Letitia Palmer of Odessa and Cassi Jackson of Cloudcroft, New Mexico; three sons, Michael Barkemeyer of Coleman, Gregory Barkemeyer of Great Lakes, Illinois and Charles Ingram of Cloudcroft, New Mexico; a niece, Kim Lane of Abilene.  He was also survived by five grandchildren.

Winnie Cathey McQueen, age 91, long-time resident of Coleman, died Saturday, March 13, 2004 in Lawton, Oklahoma.  Funeral service will be 11:00 a. m. Tuesday, March 16, 2004 in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with David Ross Cathey officiating.  Burial will follow in the Brown Ranch Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

She was born Susian Winnieford Cathey on November 21, 1912 in Loss Creek, Coleman County, Texas, a daughter of the late Carlin and Florence Sampson Cathey.  She grew up in Coleman County and graduated from Coleman High School.  She was married to Earl E. McQueen and he preceded her in death in 1944.  Winnie received her B. A. degree from Mary Hardin Baylor College and her Master’s from Texas Tech.  She was a teacher in elementary school and later a Home Economics teacher in high school.  She taught at Mukewater, Burkett, Santa Anna (two different times), Post and Ballinger.  She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Good Neighbor Extension Homemakers and the Elm Street Church of Christ.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Delbert E. and Sandy McQueen of Lawton, Oklahoma; two grandsons, Kurt McQueen of Lawton, Oklahoma and Karl McQueen of Wichita Falls, Texas; two brothers, Roy E. Cathey of Sanuarita, Arizona and David Ross Cathey of Lindale, Texas.  She was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers.

Shirley L. Crawford, age 66, of Lampasas died Sunday, March 14, 2004 in Lampasas following a 12 year battle with Alzheimer¹s Disease.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a. m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church of Lampasas with Dr. Mark Bumpus, First Baptist Church, Mineral Wells and Reid Schaub, Community Church, Lampasas officiating.  Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lampasas.  All services and arrangements are under the direction of Dodson - Sneed Funeral Home of Lampasas, Texas.  Family visitation will be today (Tuesday) from 6 to 7:30 p. m. at Dodson-Sneed Funeral Home, 1003 S. Key Avenue, Lampasas, Texas.

Mrs. Crawford was born June 4, 1937 in Santa Anna, Texas to M. R. "Bud" Simmons and the former Laverne Lackey.  She grew up in Coleman County and attended Howard Payne University in Brownwood, graduating with Bachelors and Masters Degrees.  She married Autry N. Crawford on November 26, 1957 in Santa Anna.  Mrs. Crawford taught Junior English and American Literature in Lampasas High School for 28 years.  She won the Golden Apple Award from the Temple Daily Telegram in 1992.  She founded the Flames and was very involved in teaching Sunday School.  She was a member of First Baptist Church in Lampasas, Texas.  Mrs. Crawford was preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Simmons, her parents and by her husband on June 28, 2003.

Survivors include a daughter, Keli Urofsky and husband Philip of Lampasas; a son, Keith Crawford and wife Melinda of Austin; three brothers, Donnie Simmons of Dallas, Pete Simmons of McKinney and Terry Simmons of Dallas; and four grandchildren, Dusti and Kalyn Urofsky, Chad and Lindsay Crawford.

Thomas R. ³Tomboy² Johnson, 77, a long time resident of Odessa, Texas passed away Monday, March 15, 2004 at his residence.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a. m. today (Thursday) at Mission Dorado Baptist Church with Rev. Robert L. Bratcher officiating.  Interment will be at 4:30 p. m. at the Coleman City Cemetery in Coleman.

He was born March 27, 1926 in Rockwood.  He married Wanda Henderson on February 26, 1950 in Santa Anna.  He served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1949 and worked for Shell Oil Company for 23 years.  After his retirement from Shell Oil Company in 1987, he was employed with Hubbard - Kelly Funeral Home.  Mr. Johnson was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Mission Dorado Baptist Church.  He was a member of Medical Center Hospital Auxiliary and was elected the first male president in 1995.  In 1996, he was voted Volunteer of the Year.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda, of Odessa; son, Tommy Johnson of Edmond, Oklahoma; a daughter, Denice Peppard and husband Gordon of Burleson; granddaughters, Crystal Peppard and Krystin Johnson; sisters, Alpha Mae Moss and husband Lefty of Garland, Bert Wood and husband Luther of Hamilton, Emily Maness of Brownwood, Ina Grace Schultz and husband Zoom of Cleveland, Tennessee; sister-in-law, Leona Henderson of Santa Anna; brothers - in - law Ray Henderson of San Angelo, Fred Henderson and wife Ruby of Odessa, Roy Henderson and wife Betty of Midland, Kennith Henderson and wife Jean of Odessa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services for Catherine E. Camp Simmons, 54, of Early, Texas were held at 3 p. m. Thursday in the Masadonia Cemetery in Hope, Arkansas, under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home of Early.  Mrs. Simmons died Tuesday, March 16, 2004 at Abilene Regional Medical Center.

She was born on June 26, 1949, in Hope, Arkansas, the daughter of Bryan and Dorthia Catherine Burns Camp.  She married Emmitt Simmons in June 1998 in Brownwood.  She worked at 3M as a materials coordinator.  She was a Methodist and had lived in Early for the past five years.

Survivors include her husband, Emmitt Simmons of Early; sons, Todd Justice of Hope, Arkansas and Kevin Justice and James Justice, both of Brownwood; daughter, Tammy Gordon of Brownwood; step-children, Shane Simmons of Bangs and Chandra Rice of Santa Anna; her mother, Dorthia Camp of Hope, Arkansas; brother, Dennis Camp of Hope, Arkansas; a sister, Sandy Lloyd of Hope, Arkansas; and 15 grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her father, Bryan Camp, two brothers, Phillip and Wayne Camp and the father of her children, William Douglas Justice.

Oris Wayne "Bevo" Webb, age 87, of Burkett, died Wednesday, March 17, 2004 at Bangs Nursing Home.  Graveside funeral service was 10:00 a. m. Friday, March 19, 2004 at Burkett Cemetery Pavilion with Baker Rudolph officiating.  Services were under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Bevo was born January 28, 1917 in Pioneer, Texas to B. W. and Mattie M. Webb.  When Bevo was five years old his father bought the Greer Gray ranch in Coleman County on the Pecan Bayou.  Bevo attended the Liveoak Grade School on the ranch.  He graduated from Cross Plains High School where he was an outstanding athlete in football.  Bevo attended North Texas State Teachers College in Denton.  On February 19, 1947, he married Dorothy Stone and she preceded him in death on August 8, 2003.  In 1949, Bevo and his brothers purchased a ranch in Stanley County, South Dakota.  He spent 20 years there before moving back home to the Webb Ranch at the death of his mother.  Bevo retired in 1993 because of his health.  He spent his lifetime in the cattle ranching business.  Bevo loved his horses and ranch life.

Survivors include a sister, Zora Mae Bryant of Cross Plains, Texas; nephews, Wayne and wife Darlene Webb of Burkett, Tommy Ray and wife Polly Webb of Schertz, Jack Webb and wife Barbara Baum of Austin, and Robby Glen Webb of Athens; nieces, Jacqueline and husband Ray Mackey of Abilene, and Terry Baum of Dalhart; and several great- nephews and great-nieces.

Honorary pallbearers included C. H. Edington of Burkett, Joe Kemp of Burkett, Roy Young of Burkett, Andy Dale Young of Coleman, Bill Webb of Burkett and Sterling James of McGregor.

Edith Howard Bishop, age 72, of Bangs, died Wednesday, March 17, 2004 at Brownwood Regional Medical Center.  Funeral service was held at 2:00 p. m. Saturday, March 20, 2004 in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jeff Dean officiating.  Burial followed in the Bangs Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

She was born Edith Howard on May 26, 1931 in Coleman, Texas, a daughter of the late Charles Louis Howard and Cynthia Burton Howard Parson.  She grew up in Coleman County and attended school at Anderson and Coleman.  She worked for many years at Deluxe Dry Cleaners in Brownwood and was also a hairdresser.  She had lived in Bangs since 1979 and was a member of Eastern Star in Odessa.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Ronnie Woods of Bangs; two granddaughters, Cynthia Keeney and Rebecca Keeney, both of Bangs; two great-grandsons, Dustin Marshall and Andrew McCurdy, both of Bangs; sister-in-law, Louise Howard of Coleman; brother-in-law, Robert Gable of Bangs.  She was preceded in death by a son, Marvin Lester Wimberly in 1984, one brother, Grover Howard and one sister, Katherine Gable.

Bertie "Billie" Wood passed away Friday, March 19, 2004 in Runnels County Rehab Center.  A memorial service was held at 2 p. m. Sunday at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Bert Bronaugh officiating.  Burial followed in Old Runnels Cemetery, under the direction of Rains-Seale Funeral Home of Ballinger.

Billie was born on April 17, 1906, in Silver Valley, Coleman County.  She was the third of six daughters born to Jimmie Kate and Bland Smith.  Billie graduated from Coleman High School and attended San Marcus Teachers College.  She taught all grades in the one-room Viets School for several years in the mid 1920s.  On June 1, 1929, she married Wesley Wood of the Hatchel community.  He preceded her in death in 1977.  Billie lived on the family farm at Hatchel until 1978, then moved to Winters where she lived for 14 years before moving to San Angelo.  She was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church and sang in the church choir and taught Sunday School for many years.

Survivors include daughters, Joan Bradshaw of San Angelo and Eloise Brown and husband, Earnest, of Winters; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sisters Lillian Sharp of Fort Worth, Tony Calk of Menlo Park, California.; and sister-in-law, Ruth Wood of Winters.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wesley; son, Lucius; and sisters, Lois Michaelis, Annie Mae Huddle and Marguerita Corpian.

Florence Helen (Grant) Stearns, age 97 of Trickham, died Saturday, March 20, 2004 at Brownwood Regional Medical Center.  Graveside service will be 10:00 a. m. today (Tuesday, March 23, 2004) at the Trickham Cemetery with Dr. Clyde Majors officiating.  Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home in Coleman.

Mrs. Stearns was born September 16, 1906 in Cooper, Texas, a daughter of Charlie Owen and Frances Evelyn Chesnut Grant.  She graduated from school at Trickham and later married Robert Burton Stearns on December 5, 1926 in Santa Anna.  He preceded her in death on December 31, 1967.  Florence worked at the Tile Factory in Santa Anna, Bangs Lamp Factory and later Bangs Nursing Home until her health declined.  She was also a caregiver to several in the surrounding communities.  Her main hobby was gardening.  She loved working outside and had many enjoyable years of that.  She was devoted to her family and was always willing to help anyone.  She was a caring and compassionate person, an avid reader, member of the quilting club in Trickham, Trickham Cemetery Association, Trickham Union Church and a Baptist.

Survivors include two daughters, Alice Wells of Coleman, Verna Mae Bolton of Brownwood, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by two daughters Helen Joan Stearns, Frances Lamour Fleming; one son, R. C. Stearns; two sisters, Bessie Haynes, Carrie Stacy; two brothers, Ellie Grant, Houston Grant; three grandsons, Stanley V. Calcote, Leslie Fleming and Robert Stearns. Pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons: Ervin Wells, Chris Fleming, Dale Stearns, Sam Stearns, Bill Stearns and John Wells.

Jim Thompson, of Midland, Texas passed away Saturday, March 20, 2004 in Big Spring, Texas.  Funeral services have been scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 23, 2004 at Ellis Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Steve Tims and Reverend Bob Porterfield officiating.  Graveside services will be Tuesday at 4:30 p. m. at Hill Cemetery, Voss, Texas with Reverend Farris Akins officiating.  Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home, 801 Andrews Highway, Midland, Texas.

He was born August 11, 1938 to Doy Astor Thompson and Lorene Burleson Thompson in Uvalde, Texas and was raised in and around Uvalde and in the Barksdale, Texas area.  After graduation he joined the U. S. Air Force.  In 1963 Jim married Dorothy Nell Skelton in Voss, Texas.  The couple moved to Midland from San Angelo in 1966.  Jim was working for Welex at that time.  In 1967 they moved to Hobbs, New Mexico and then back to Midland in 1968 where he was employed with Schlumberger Oilfield Service for 12 years.  While in Midland he was also employed with John L. Cox as a field mechanic and production foreman for 7 years.  In 1979 he started his own business, Big Jim's Hot Shot Service.  He was a member of Wilshire Park Baptist Church.

Jim is survived by his wife, Dorothy Thompson of Midland, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, James and Melody Thompson of Midland, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Lori Ragan and Wendell Stroup of Sheffield, Texas; grandchildren, Micheal Howk and David Thomas Ragan, both of Sheffield, Texas; aunt, Faye Addis of El Paso, Texas.

Cosette Jackson, age 59, of Coleman, Texas passed away Sunday, March 21, 2004 at 7:42 a.m. at her residence.  Services will be Saturday at 1:00 p. m. at the Mt. Calvary Church of God in Christ with Rev. J. E. Anderson officiating.  Interment will follow at the Coleman City Cemetery under the direction of Henderson Funeral Home of Coleman.  Family will receive friends Friday from 6 until 7 p. m. at Henderson Funeral Home.

Cosette was born in Coleman on March 22, 1944 to Sylvia Jackson Baker and the late Tony Baker, Sr.  She was a 1962 graduate of Humphery High School and a graduate of Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science.  On March 17, 1989 she married Troy Jackson in Brownwood and they celebrated twelve years of marriage.  Troy preceded her in death in 1999.  Cosette was a lifetime resident of Coleman and a member of the Baptist Church.  She was a licensed mortician and worked as a caseworker for the handicapped.

Survivors include a son, Sammy Wade, Jr. of Abilene, Texas; her mother, Sylvia Baker Edwards of Santa Anna, Texas; her step-mother, Mae Baker of Coleman, Texas;  sisters, Eva Mae Holloway and Mary Payne, both of Coleman, Texas, Wanda Jackson of Odessa, Texas, Annie Mae Hubbard, Susan Perryman, Ollie Baker and Christene Hodges, all of San Antonio, Texas ; ten brothers, Odell Baker, John Tony Baker, Claude Baker and Nathaniel Baker, all of Coleman; Samuel Baker and Earl Rankin, both of San Antonio, Texas; Jerald Baker and Jackie Baker, both of Dallas, Texas; Tony Baker, Jr. of Ft. Worth, Texas and Kerry Baker of U. S. Navy; and several nieces and nephews.

Cosette was preceded in death by sister, Claretta Baker Hartman in 1999 and her brother, Jim Albert Edwards in 1995.  Her brothers will serve as pallbearers.

Marie Brown, 86, of San Angelo, formerly of Talpa, died Monday, March 22, 2004 at home surrounded by her family.  Funeral service will be 2:00 p. m. today (Thursday, March 25, 2004) at Rains-Seale Funeral Home Chapel in Ballinger with Dr. Bill Shiell officiating.  Burial will follow at Talpa cemetery.

Marie was born on September 12, 1917 to Herman and Pearl (Black) Wiegreffe in San Antonio.  She married Ralph Brown on August 15, 1934 in Ballinger.  Marie was employed as a LVN nurse at Coleman, Ballinger and San Angelo hospitals and nursing homes before her retirement.  She was a member of Southland Baptist Church in San Angelo.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in December of 1983, sons, Randall in 1972, Kent in 1997, and Larry in 1975.

Survivors include her daughter, Sybil Dodson, and husband, Dr. Dwain Dodson of San Angelo and son, Eddie Brown and wife, Billie of Ballinger. Grandchildren, Debra Rinn, Kelly Sanderford, Bill Brown, Jana Weatherby, Max Sanderford and Sammy Brown and 17 great-grandchildren.

Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.  Memorials may be made to Southland Baptist Church of San Angelo, Carnegie Library of Ballinger, or favorite charity.

Andy Carl Ewing, age 48, of Brownwood, died Monday, March 22, 2004 in Brownwood.  Memorial service was held at 3:00 p. m. Wednesday, March 24, 2004 in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel in Coleman, with Rev. John Stanislaw, pastor of First Baptist Church in Coleman, officiating.

Andy was born April 15, 1955 in Coleman, Texas and was the son of Rebecca Fenton Ewing and the late Weldon Ewing.  He grew up in Coleman County and graduated from Mozelle High School in 1973.  He had lived in Brownwood for about 20 years and had previously been employed at 3M.  He was a member of Coggin Avenue Baptist Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Andrea Ewing of San Marcos, Texas; his mother, Rebecca Ewing; one sister, Dana Coon of Georgia; nieces and nephews, Sherry Fields, Gary Carroll, Faith Spagnolo, Todd Coon and Larry Coon; great-nieces and great-nephews, Hope Jacobs, Reed Fields, Taylor Fields, Marissa Carroll, Zach Coon, Coleman Coon and Chloe Coon.  He was preceded in death by a sister, Lana Jacobs.

Maxie Morris, age 65, of Coleman, died Tuesday, March 23, 2004 at Coleman County Medical Center.  Graveside funeral service was held at 4:00 p. m. Wednesday, March 24, 2004 at Coleman City Cemetery Pavilion.  Services were under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

She was born Maxie Armstrong on August 28, 1938 at Loss Creek, Coleman County, Texas and was the daughter of the late O. A. Armstrong and Essie Hughes Armstrong Davenport.  She grew up in Coleman and attended school here.  She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.

Survivors include nieces and nephews: Perry Armstrong of Sweetwater, Danny and Lindi Armstrong of Coleman, Marcia "Cissy" Armstrong of Coleman, Misty and Jerry Johnson of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada; several great-nieces and great-nephews; special friend, John Barkemeyer of Coleman.  She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Charles Armstrong, in 1999. 

Mrs. Catherine (Cat) Michelle Faries Stringer, 27 years of age, passed away in Coleman at her residence on March 24, 2004.  Graveside services will be held at 2 p. m. Friday at Hope Cemetery in Henrietta, Texas with Rev. Paul Meyenburg officiating.  Interment will follow under the direction of Walker Funeral Home of Coleman.

She was born in Abilene on December 31, 1976.  Catherine was married to Kenneth Stringer on August 2, 1995 in Robert Lee, Texas.  She received her LVN license in Wichita Falls, Texas in 1988 and had worked in Sweetwater and Snyder, also at Holiday Hill and Leisure Lodge Nursing Homes in Coleman.  She had lived in Coleman most of her life.

Survivors include her husband, Ken Stringer of Coleman; five children, Haley, Ashley, Jared, Dakota and Talon; grandmother, Mrs. Catherine Vernon of Henrietta, Texas; mother, Bettye Faries of Coleman; three brothers, Billy Don Faries, Bobby Dan Faries and Micheal Faries, all of Coleman; a sister, Peggy of DeSoto, Texas.  She was preceded in death by her father and grandfather.

Family visitation will be this evening (Thursday) at Walker Funeral Home, from 6 to 7 p. m.

Oran Hollas Watson, age 85, of Trickham, Texas passed away Wednesday, March 24, 2004 at 5:30 a. m. at Brownwood Regional Medical Center in Brownwood.  Services will be Friday at 11:00 a. m. at the First Baptist Church of Santa Anna with Rev. Helen McIver officiating.  Interment will follow at the Shields Cemetery directed by Henderson Funeral Home of Santa Anna.  Family will receive friends today (Thursday) from 6 until 7 p. m.

Hollas was born October 11, 1918 in Coleman County, Texas to the late William Booker and Lottie Mae Atherton Watson.  He was reared in Coleman County and graduated from Santa Anna High School in 1936.  On December 25, 1941, Hollas married Mary Tom Jones in Shields and they have celebrated sixty-two years of marriage.  He was a World War II veteran serving with the Army Air Corps and a member of the Church of Christ.  Hollas was a stockfarmer and an oilfield worker, and owned and operated the Austin Avenue Recreation Center in Brownwood for many years.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Tom Watson of Trickham, Texas; a son, Bill Watson of Trickham, Texas; a sister, Billie May Schrader of Santa Anna, Texas; eight grandchildren, Mitzi Barnett of Coleman, Texas; Tracy Rainer and Wynndi Caldwell, both of Anchorage, Alaska; Jodi Watson of Trickham, Texas; Sandi Watson of Shields, Texas; Shane Watson of Tucson, Arizona; Shelby Daniell Watson and Shannon Paige Watson, both of College Station, Texas; 10 great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Tommy Watson in 1997.

Mary Jane Scott Giles, age 69, of Coleman, died Wednesday, March 24, 2004 at Medical City Dallas.  Funeral service was held at 2:00 p. m. Saturday, March 27, 2004 at the First Christian Church with The Rev. Dr. Henry N. Chisholm officiating and eulogy by Collier Watson.  Burial followed at the Coleman Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

She was born Mary Jane Scott on July 7, 1934 in Coleman to the late Mr. and Mrs. Gilford Scott and was the granddaughter of early Coleman settlers Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Stobaugh.  Mary Jane grew up in Coleman and graduated from Coleman High School in 1951 and attended the University of Texas.  She was married to Jarrell Giles and he preceded her in death.  Mary Jane joined the Christian Church as a child and continued her membership after the Christian and Presbyterian Churches united in Coleman, forming the UCPC.  She served on the Church Board and Council, was past president of the Women of the Church, served as an Elder and had been a long-time member of the choir.  She was a member of the hospital auxiliary in Coleman and Brownwood.

Lucy Villareal Lopez joined The Lord March 24, 2004.  Rosary was recited on Friday, March 26, 2004 at 7:00 p. m. at Franklin-Bartley Chapel, Lubbock, Texas.  Mass was celebrated at 10:00 a. m. Saturday, March 27th in the Cathedral of Christ The King, Lubbock, Texas.

Lucy was born in Dallas on November 27, 1920 to Antonio and Maria Luz Villareal.  She graduated from Coleman High School in 1937 and moved to Lubbock in 1965 where she attended South Plains College.  She was a member of Christ The King Catholic Church and was a retired nurse.  She was preceded in death by her husband, John Dela Rosa Lopez, and one son, Raymond V. Sendejas.

She is survived by her children, Delores Favila of San Diego, California, Beatrice Gerhardt of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Marlene Keith of Arlington, Patricia Henderson of Frisco, Charles Lopez of Arlington, and Linda Saiz of Kress; two sisters, Rosa Ortega of Coleman and Antonia Sanchez of Lorraine; 19 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grand-children.

J. P. Kimbrell, age 76, former Coleman resident, died Thursday, March 25, 2004 in Floyd, Texas.  Graveside funeral service was 2:00 p. m. Sunday, March 28, 2004 at Rough Creek Cemetery Pavilion with Rev. Marty Reed officiating.  Services were under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

J. P. Kimbrell was born April 8, 1927 in Novice, Texas and was a son of the late Mark Edward Kimbrell and Birdie Ann Rainer Kimbrell.  He grew up in Coleman County and lived in Coleman for a number of years before moving to Greenville four years ago.  He was self-employed and a Baptist.

Survivors include three sisters, Neoma "Sally" Dawson of Abilene, Texas, Edith May Hampton of Fort Worth, Texas and Cleo Belle Risner of Tennessee; several nieces and nephews including Karen Robinson of Coleman, Jim Kimbrell of Greenville and Robbie Nichols of Early.

Mrs. Opaline M. Pope, age 92 of Coleman, passed away March 27, 2004 at Holiday Hill Nursing Center.  Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 31 at 2 p. m. at Walker Funeral Chapel with Rev. Sam Tomlinson officiating and Rev. Marty Reed assisting, with burial to follow at the Burkett Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Home of Coleman.   The family will receive friends at the funeral home today (Tuesday) from 6 to 8 p. m. 

Born May 9, 1911 she was the daughter of the late Charles A. and Willie Mae Scivally.  On December 23, 1928 she married Charles Edwin Pope.  He preceded her in death September 24, 1984.  A resident of Coleman County since 1972, she was a retired housewife and a member of the Assembly of God Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Burkett of Coleman; and Edwina Freeman of Cambridge, Idaho; two sons, Gene Pope of Cuero and Burnie Pope of Jacksonville, North Carolina. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

Services for Winiford R. Williams, age 62, of Andrews, will be held at 2:00 p. m. today (Tuesday) in McNett Funeral Home Chapel in Andrews, Texas.  Officiating will be Rev. Clay Hale, pastor of First Church of The Nazarene.  Burial will follow in the Andrews North Cemetery, under the direction of McNett Funeral Home. Winiford died Saturday, March 27, 2004 in Andrews.

He was born on July 29, 1941 in Santa Anna, Texas to Roy and Alma Williams.  He married Hellen Akridge on January 22, 1965 in Pecos, Texas.  He was a gager, retiring from Pride Oil in 1999.

Survivors include his wife, Hellen, of Andrews; a son, Roy L. Williams of New Port, Tennessee; a daughter, Cynthia Overman of Andrews; his mother, Alma Williams of Andrews; sisters, Brenda Kothmann of Mason, Nancy Sue Bardin of George West; six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Williams in 1990.

William O. White, 99, died Sunday, March 28, 2004 in a local hospital.  Services will be 10:00 a. m. Tuesday, March 30, 2004 at North's Funeral Home, 242 Orange Street, with Mike Cope officiating.  Visitation will be Monday, March 29, 2004 from 6 to 7:30 p. m. at the funeral home.  Burial will be in the Coleman Cemetery in Coleman under the direction of North's Funeral Home.

Mr. White was reared in Coleman.  He married Thesia Smith November 22, 1925 in Coleman.  He moved to Abilene in 1956.  He taught piano and guitar at his home for over 30 years.  He was a member of Highland Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Thesia White of Abilene; and one son, Wendell O. White of Abilene. 

Mrs. Thelma L. Pillow, age 92 of Merkel, passed away March 28, 2004 at her residence.  Funeral services were Wednesday at 2 p. m. at the New Beginnings Pentecostal Church in Abilene with the Bro. Beverton officiating.  Burial followed in the Rough Creek Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Home of Coleman.

Daughter of the late Marvin and Rtehea Steed Lundy, she was born August 9, 1911 in Atlanta, Texas.  On June 11, 1932 she married Evenard Pillow in Arkansas.  He preceded her in death in 1980.  Thelma was a retired housewife and a member of New Beginnings Pentecostal Church.

She is survived by four daughters; Mrs. Glen (Joyce) Hornsberger of Sweetwater, Mrs. Marion (Alice) Garrett of DeSoto, Mrs. Bill (Retha) Freeman of Carson City, and Mrs. Karol (Judy) Davis; one son Charles and wife Sandy Pillow of Willow Park.  Also surviving are 22 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.

Thelma was preceded in death by one son Randy Pillow.

Eunice Stacy, age 99, passed away on March 28, 2004 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  Cremation has taken place and graveside memorial services will be at Rockwood Cemetery at 10:00 a. m. April 28, 2004.  Her grandson Lonnie Jordan will preside.

She was born September 20, 1904.  She was preceded in death by her husband James Raymond Stacy, her daughter, Barbara Fuller and her daughter Delois Rae.

She is survived by her daughter Lamoine Fleharty, her grandchildren, Connie Twilley and Lonnie Jordan and six great-grandchildren.

Bobbye Jean Collett, age 75, of Coleman passed away Monday, March 29, 2004 at 3:55 a. m. at Coleman County Medical Center.  Services will be Wednesday at 11:00 a. m at Henderson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Stanislaw officiating.  Interment will follow at the Burkett Cemetery with Henderson Funeral Home of Coleman in charge of arrangements.  The family will receive friends today (Tuesday) from 6 until 7 p. m. at Henderson Funeral Home.

Bobbye was born in Burkett, Texas on January 19, 1929 to the late R. T. and Nanie Godwin Watson.  She was reared in Burkett graduating from Burkett High School in 1946.  A resident of Coleman County and Abilene her adult life, she was a member of the Baptist Church and a nurse and homemaker.

Survivors include two sons, Tommy Mac and wife Paulette Connelly of Coleman, Texas and Chris and wife Cynthia Connelly of Burkett, Texas; a sister, Pasty Hill of Van, Texas ; two brothers, Jake Watson of Mineral Wells, Texas and Jack Watson of Burkett, Texas; five grandsons, Shea and wife Kerrie Connelly of Benbrook, Texas, Clint Connelly of Austin, Texas, Casey Connelly of Coleman, Texas, Lance and wife Kristin Connelly of Temple, Texas and Chance Connelly of Temple, Texas; and four great-grandchildren. Grandsons will be pallbearers.

Mrs. Marie Tabor, 90, passed away March 30, 2004 in Portland, Texas.  Services were conducted April 5th at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home in Aransas Pass.  The family received friends Wednesday at Walker Funeral Home in Coleman.  Graveside services and burial were 2 p. m. Wednesday in Coleman Cemetery.

She was born in May, Texas on October 29, 1913, the daughter of Charlie and Berta Cason.  She was a member of First Baptist Church in Aransas Pass.  Marie married Leslie S. Tabor in Coleman, Texas on November 18, 1933.  Marie and Leslie Tabor lived and farmed in Coleman County, Texas until 1952 when they moved to Aransas Pass.  Marie was a former employee of Kaufman¹s Department Store, Bandy¹s Drug Store and K-Woolens Department Store in Aransas Pass.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Leslie S. Tabor of Aransas Pass; her son, Joe Gordon Tabor of Coleman and one sister, Jackie Stroud of Odessa.

Survivors include one daughter, Linda Durbin (Dale) of Corpus Christi; one sister, Jean Crosby of Wasco, California; three grandchildren, Joe Gordon Tabor Jr. (Colette) of Coleman, Chuck Tabor (Betty) of Winters, Texas and Denice Durbin Phillips of Corpus Christi and three great-grandchildren, Candice and Samantha Tabor of Coleman and Cody Phillips of Corpus Christi.

Dorothea E. Whisenant, age 76, of Rockwood, Texas passed away Wednesday, March 31, 2004 at 4:00 p. m. at the Bangs Nursing Home.  Graveside services were at the Rockwood Cemetery at 11:00 a. m. Saturday with Rev. Jeff Dean officiating.  Interment followed with services under the direction of Henderson Funeral Home of Santa Anna.

Born Dorothea Elizabeth Longenecker on July 2, 1927 in Frederick, Maryland to the late John David and Florence Virginia Smith Longenecker, she was reared in Maryland where she attended the Maryland Schools.  On December 25, 1993 Dorothea married Guy Andrew Whisenant in Brownwood, Texas and they had celebrated eleven years of marriage.  She lived in Brownwood from 1943 till 1950 and had been a resident of Coleman County since 1970, moving here from Baltimore, Maryland.  Dorothea was a member of the Rockwood Methodist Church and had retired from the Social Security Administration and was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Guy Whisenant of Rockwood, Texas; a daughter, Patricia Lambert of Tampa, Florida; a son, James Paul Fraser of Brownwood, Texas; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
