Marguerite Barnes Kingsbery, age 98, of Santa Anna passed from this life on Wednesday, February 4, 2004 at 1:30 p. m. at her residence. Services were Saturday at 11:00 a. m. at First United Methodist Church of Santa Anna with Rev. Art Allen and Rev. Kermit Sorrells officiating. Interment followed at the Santa Anna Cemetery under the direction of Henderson Funeral Home of Santa Anna. Marguerite was born on March 20, 1905 in Marlin, Texas to the late Doctor Joseph and Ellen Elizabeth Bonner Barnes. She attended Santa Anna Schools and graduated from Coleman High School in 1923. Marguerite married Carroll Emera Kingsbery in Santa Anna on April 17, 1924 and they celebrated seventy one years of marriage. Carroll preceded her in death in 1995. A resident of Santa Anna since 1909, she was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she served many years on the administrative council and was also a member of the UMW. She was a past member of the Coleman County Breeder-Feeder and the Lions Club Auxiliary. Marguerite was a homemaker. Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Garrett of Lake Jackson, Texas and Kay and husband Frank Gray of Santa Anna, Texas; eight grandchildren - Mike and wife Roz Garrett of Austin, Charles and wife Susan of Early, Celia Slingluff of Lake Jackson, Barnes and wife Lynette Kingsbery of Lubbock, Karen and husband Bob McManus of Austin, Charles "Chuck" Kingsbery of Austin, Shelly and husband Stevon DeMarco of Englewood, Colorado, Kallie and husband Reece McIver of Elgin; 19 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Marguerite was preceded in death by her son, Maurice Kingsbery, in 2002 and by four sisters and four brothers. James Don Seals, age 62, of Abilene died Tuesday, February 3, 2004. Services were 10 a. m. Friday at Bailey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Hooper officiating. Burial followed in the Clyde Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home. Don was born November 7, 1941 in Abilene to James Oliver and Carrie Sartor Seals. He married Mary Ann Ford in Abilene on June 26, 1958. He was a retired truck driver, formerly having worked for G. l. Trucking Company. He was a member of Northside Baptist Church of Abilene. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, J. O. and Sissy Seals of Clyde and Doug and Stephanie Seals of Abilene; three daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa Perry of Abilene, Sherry and Toney Claxton of Abilene and Kelly and Turf Wolfe of Abilene; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his father, James Oliver Seals of Clyde; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Jimmy and Kathleen Seals of Lake Coleman, Otis and Jeri Seals of Abilene, J. O. and Deborah Seals of Clyde; and one sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Charles Cozby of Clyde. He was preceded in death by his mother, Carrie Seals. Winnie Haynes, age 100, of Santa Anna, Texas passed from this life on Thursday, February 05, 2004 at 3:25 p. m. the Bangs Nursing Home. Services were Friday at 2:00 p. m. at Henderson Funeral Chapel with Rev. Helen McIver officiating. Interment followed at Cleveland Cemetery under the direction of Henderson Funeral Home of Santa Anna. Winnie was born August 13, 1903 in Burnet County, Texas to the late G. W. and Amanda Matilda Davis Jennings. She was a lifetime resident of Coleman County where she attended the Cleveland Schools. Winnie married John Travis Haynes in Cleveland in 1921 and they celebrated 50 years of marriage. John preceded her in death in 1971. She was a member of the Methodist Church and a homemaker. Survivors include a daughter, LaVerne Evans of Santa Anna, Texas; granddaughter, Linda Evans of Austin, Texas and grandson, Dana and wife LaVonda Evans of Santa Anna, Texas; and two great-grandchildren Winnie was preceded in death by her daughter Evelyn Haynes Cupps in 1941. Dessa Patterson, age 98, of Santa Anna passed from this life on Thursday, February 05, 2004 at 2:45 p. m. at the Coleman County Medical Center in Coleman. Services will be Sunday at 2:00 p. m. at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Raymond Jones officiating. Interment will follow at the Santa Anna Cemetery under the direction of Henderson Funeral Home of Santa Anna. Dessa was born November 23, 1905 in Brown County, Texas to the late John Z. and Katherine McGowan May. She was raised in Comanche County where she attended the Stagg Creek Schools and graduated from Sydney Schools. Dessa married Milton H. Patterson in 1928 in Comanche County and they celebrated 24 years of marriage. Milton preceded her in death in 1952. She has been a resident of Coleman County since 1940 and was a member of the First Baptist Church where she taught the Jr. Dept. Sunday School for many years and was a member of the Fidelis Class. Dessa worked as a telephone operator and later was a nurses aide at Ranger Park Nursing Home and also a homemaker. Survivors included a son, Gary Patterson of Santa Anna, Texas; a sister, Marie Winfrey of Sundown, Texas; a brother, Luther May of Santa Anna, Texas; one niece and four nephews. Albert Cecil "A. C." Tillman, age 84 of Coleman, died Sunday, February 8, 2004 at Coleman County Medical Center. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 12, 2004 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Charles Sheffield officiating, assisted by Rev. Daniel Stovall. Burial will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home. Mr. Tillman was born March 13, 1919 in Tahlequah, Cherokee County, Oklahoma, a son of A. H. Tillman and Sarah Whiles Tillman. He grew up and attended school in Oklahoma. He moved to Coleman in 1941 and met Doris Elena Dunn while working as an aircraft mechanic at the flying school in Coleman. They were married on August 28, 1942 at the First Baptist Church. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He lived in Midland and Alice where he worked in the oil fields and in real estate, returning to Coleman after retiring in 1975. He taught Sunday School at First Baptist Church. At the time of his death, he was a member of Concho Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Doris Tillman of Coleman; one son, Larry Tillman of Coleman; one sister and brother-in-law, Lillie and Cecil Moss of Seattle, Washington; two brothers, Joe M. Tillman of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, Elmo Tillman of Fort Gibson, Oklahoma; three brothers-in-law, Rev. Raymond Dunn and Burlie Dunn both of Midland, George Henry Dunn of Grand Prairie; four granddaughters, Lori Moran, and husband Jason, of Coleman, Krystle Tillman, Miranda Tillman and Amelia Tillman all of Fort Stockton; two great-granddaughters, Megan and Emely Moran of Coleman and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters. Family visitation will be from 5:00 p. m. to 7:00 p. m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Margaret Matthews Coins, age 66, of Orville, California passed from this life on Sunday, February 8, 2004 at 2:30 a. m. at the Orville Hospital. Memorial services were held in Orville, California on Friday at 5:00 p. m. A memorial service will be held in Santa Anna at a later date. She was born in Thrifty, Brown County, Texas on November 4, 1937 to the late Roger William and Ethel Rose Jackson Matthews. Margaret was reared in Brown and Coleman County, attending the Santa Anna schools. Margaret had been a resident of Orville for the past 10 years. Survivors include four daughters, Vicki Navarro of Orville, California, Terri Burke of Roseville, California, Tammie Rice of Los Angeles, California, and Tonya Rice of San Jose, California; a son, Stuart William Rice of Orville, California; five sisters, Jeanette Brock of Santa Anna, Texas, Mavis Sellers of Coleman, Texas, Shirley Leach of Azle, Texas, Billie Woods of Granbury, Texas, and Evelyn Dillingham of Santa Anna, Texas; two brothers, Roger E. Matthews of Jefferson, Oregon and Truman Matthews of Burkett, Texas; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and special friend, Dean Ruble. (Former Coleman Democrat - Voice publisher / owner) Sam P. Braswell, the patriarch of a prominent Kerrville family, died Monday, February 9, 2004 at the age of 93. Funeral arrangements for Braswell were under the direction of Grimes Funeral Chapels of Kerrville. Mr. Braswell was a former publisher of the Coleman Democrat-Voice, purchasing the newspaper in 1944. A native of Dallas, Braswell spent much of his life working in the newspaper business and co-owned and operated the Kerrville Daily Times from 1948 to 1955. Braswell was born March 17, 1910 in Dallas. During World War I he moved to Clarendon, where his father worked as a newspaper publisher. After graduating from high school, he attended Clarendon Junior College and the University of Texas. At UT, he played collegiate baseball and tennis, including a memorable scrimmage against Babe Ruth and the New York Yankees. On August 10, 1930, Braswell married Cecelia Atteberry, who survives him. Their son, Sam Harben, was born July 16, 1931, in Pampa. In the fall of 1936, the Braswell family moved to Kerrville where they joined the production staff at the Kerrville Mountain Sun. He worked in Kerrville until 1942, when he moved to Coleman, Texas to operate the Coleman Democrat-Voice newspaper in the absence of the publisher, who was called up during World War II. The Braswells purchased the Coleman paper in 1944 and converted it to a daily publication three years later. The Braswells returned to the Hill Country and purchased a co-ownership interest in the Kerrville Times with G. Rankin Starkey in 1948. In March 1951 the paper was converted from a weekly to a daily newspaper and the current name The Kerrville Daily Times was adopted. The Braswells sold their interest in the Times in 1955 and Braswell became the Victoria Advocate¹s (Texas second oldest newspaper) associate manager for the next five years. After returning to Kerrville in 1960, the Braswell family purchased the Fine Printing Company and constructed a building to house the expanding business. In 1977, Sam P. joined Chas. Schreiner Bank, where he worked for 12 years as public relations representative. He was appointed by the late Texas Gov. Allan Shivers to a six-year term as a member of the Texas Commission on Higher Education. He also served as an associate to former State Rep. and Texas Railroad Commissioner Jim Nugent. Billy M. Comedy, age 77 of Abilene, and former Coleman resident, died Wednesday, February 11, 2004 at Hendrick Medical Center. Funeral service was 2:00 p. m. Saturday, February 14, 2004 at Stevens Funeral Home, 400 West Pecan, Coleman, with Brother Mack Cason officiating, assisted by Rev. Edd Chappell. Burial with Military Honors followed in the Coleman City Cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home. Mr. Comedy was born October 31, 1926 in Coleman, a son of James Melton Comedy and Willie Belle Smith Comedy. He grew up and attended school in Coleman. He served in the United States Army. He married Clydene Cason on May 7, 1947 in Brownwood. At the age of 11, he went to work for Jettye Claire at the Democrat-Voice in Coleman. He published the Throckmorton Tribune for six years before moving to Haskell, where he published the Haskell Free Press for 21 years. He was involved with many community and civic organizations, including the Fire Departments in Coleman, Throckmorton and Haskell; Chamber of Commerce in Throckmorton and Haskell where he was president from 1985 to 1987; Lions Club in Throckmorton and the Rotary Club in Haskell and the Industrial Foundation in Haskell. He was a member of the Texas Press Association, West Texas Press Association and the First United Methodist Church in Haskell. Mr. Comedy was a Past President of West Texas Press Association, serving in 1978. Survivors include his wife, Clydene Comedy of Abilene; son and daughter-in-law, Billy Don and Jeanine Comedy of Wichita Falls; two granddaughters, Jessica New and husband Josh of Minot, North Dakota, Jennifer Holmes and husband Staten of San Antonio; aunt Louise Smith of Los Angeles, California; niece Brenda Keenum and husband Jerry of Granbury; nephew Gary Comedy of Coleman and other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, William Marvin Comedy. Pallbearers were Scott Keenum, Chris Lenegar, Mike Cason, Daniel O'Keefe, Kelly O'Keefe and Darold Roberson. Betty D. Hafner Little, 79, died Wednesday, February 11, 2004 in a local hospital. Funeral services will be 10 a. m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Buffalo Gap, with Rev. Graham Gutting officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Highway 277 South. Visitation is today from 5 to 8 p. m. at the funeral home. Born September 12, 1924, in Polk, Nebraska, Betty was the daughter of Charles and Florence (Leonard) Crew. She married Billy George Hafner in Geneva, Nebraska, August 24, 1945. After Mr. Hafner's discharge from the Army Air Corps in 1945, she moved to Tuscola, where they farmed and raised two children. Betty was an employee of First State Bank of Tuscola for 23 years. Mr. Hafner died on June 26, 1974, after they had retired and moved to Lake Coleman. Betty then married Roy B. Little on June 2, 1975 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They enjoyed traveling with the Good Sam's Club for 25 years and were active members of the First Baptist Church of Buffalo Gap. They resided in Abilene until 1992 when they moved to Buffalo Gap. Mr. Little died on March 28, 2002. Survivors include son, Billy George Hafner, Jr. II of Clyde; daughter, Sherry Dee Oliver and her husband Gary Ray Oliver of Roscoe; three stepchildren, Robert Little and his wife Jill of Abilene, Elizabeth Ann Hagar of Buffalo Gap, and Jerry Little of Tuscola; a sister, Arlene Cline of Lincoln, Nebraska; five grandchildren, Monique Sadler and husband Cody, Shay Roy Smith, Alanna Rae Tankersly and husband Jimmy Don, Billy George Hafner III and wife Franchesca, and Alicia Michelle Hafner; seven step-grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and eight step-great-grandchildren. Foy Day Allcorn, age 63, died Thursday, February 12, 2004 at an Abilene hospital. Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Monday at the Broadview Baptist Church in Abilene with Reverend David Cason officiating. Burial followed in the Crews Cemetery under the direction of Elmwood Funeral Home. Mr. Allcorn was born March 22, 1940 near Talpa, Texas the son of William Lonnie and Annie Willeen Day Allcorn. He graduated from Talpa High School in 1958 and later attended McMurry University. He married Margaret Warren on July 18, 1959 in San Angelo. He was a Certified Public Accountant and worked for the IRS for 35 years. He was active in the Clyde City Council for 13 years and was a member of the Broadview Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Margaret of Abilene; two sons and daughters-in-law, Greg and Robin Allcorn of San Angleo and Russell and Lesa Allcorn of Abilene; one daughter and son-in-law, Kim and David Fletcher of Abilene; one brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Shirley Allcorn of Round Rock; six grandchildren; three step-grandchildren and one great-step-grandchild. Peggy Joyce Hohmann, age 73, of Coleman died Thursday, February 12, 2004 at Holiday Hill Nursing Home. Funeral service was 2:00 p. m. Sunday, February 15, 2004 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in the Rough Creek Cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home. Peggy was born September 7, 1930 in Burnet, Texas, a daughter of Owen Knox Alexander and Jewel E. Hill Alexander. She grew up in Tow, Llano County and graduated from Llano High School. She married Dayton E. Hohmann on October 23, 1948 in Tow and followed him everywhere during his Air Force career. They lived in Grand Prairie from 1965 to 1981, where Mrs. Hohmann was a member of the Grand Prairie Wives Club. They moved to Coleman in 1981. She was a life-long member of the Air Force Wives Club and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Survivors include her husband, Dayton E. Hohmann of Coleman; two sons and daughters-in-law, Darrel Lee and Ireanne Hohmann of Coleman and Richard Dale and Rebecca Hohmann of Mesquite; one brother and sister-in-law, Jimmie M. and Maurine Alexander of Boyce, Louisiana; six grandchildren, Alisha, Micheal, Walter, Christopher, Melanie, Jonathon and two great-grandchildren, Celeste and Joshua. She was preceded in death by a son, Ronny Len Hohmann. Pallbearers were Michael B. Hohmann, Walter D. Hohmann, Christopher G. Hohmann, Jonathan B. Hohmann, Scott M. Clayson and Mike Calk. Luther Glen Harmes, age 70 years, of Cross Plains died Friday, February 13, 2004 at a local hospital. Funeral services were 10:30 a. m. Monday at Higginbotham Funeral Chapel with Ronnie White officiating, assisted by Rex Boggs. Burial followed in the Cross Plains Cemetery with Higginbotham Funeral Home of Cross Plains in charge of arrangements. He was born September 27, 1933 in Coleman, Texas to Luther Otto and Mary Fay (Coleman) Harmes. Glen graduated from Coleman High School, where he excelled as a top running back for the Coleman Bluecats in the late 40¹s and early 50¹s. He married Mardell (Maxwell) Richards on January 17, 1975 in Gatesville. In later years, he was a self-employed equipment dealer and drilling contractor. He was a member of Central Baptist Church in Coleman. He is survived by his wife, Mardell Harmes of Cross Plains; two daughters, Toni Shields of Snyder and Connie Boggs of Eastland; three sons, Monty Richards of Cross Plains, Steve Richards of Winnemucca, Nevada and Gary Richards of Beeville; his mother Mary Harmes of Coleman; a brother, Don Harmes of Coleman; 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Kelly Nicole Drury-Burkhart, age 20 of Abilene went to join the Lord on Saturday morning, February 14, 2004. Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. today (Thursday) at Aldersgate United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park's "Garden of Remembrance." Kelly was born in Abilene on February 13, 1984. She grew up in Abilene and attended Wylie ISD. She moved to Great Falls, Montana in 1998 and returned to Abilene in 2000. S he attended McMurry University where she was pursing a degree in secondary education. Kelly is survived by her mother and stepfather, Lori and Dewayne Key; her father, Daniel Drury and his fiancée, Melissa Podrovitz; two sisters, Kristin Drury and Kaitlyn Drury; maternal grandparents, Roy and Gloria Richardson; paternal grandparents, Richard Lorrie Drury; uncle and aunt, Richard ("her hero") and Shona Richardson, cousins, Alexandra and Aric Richardson; aunt and uncle, Krisha and Bill Paul; cousins, Kasondra and Lacey Bouldin; cousin, Zoe Paul; uncle and aunt, Kirk and Rhonda Richardson; cousin, Michael Richardson; and her fiancé Nathan "Chip" Morris II; several other aunts, uncles and cousins and many friends. Ray (Birdie) Harvey, 37, of Paint Rock passed away on Sunday morning, February 15, 2004 at his home. Family visitation will be 7:00 to 8:00 p. m. Wednesday at Rains-Seale Funeral Home in Ballinger. Graveside services will be 11:00 a. m. Thursday at Paint Rock Cemetery in Paint Rock. Allen Ray was born October 29, 1966 in Flagstaff, Arizona to David Allen and Lanora McDonnell. He was married to Pam Barrow Harvey and had worked for over 12 years for the Med-Vac in Coleman and Brownwood. He was currently employed as a corrections officer with the Eden Detention Center. His father preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Pam Harvey of Paint Rock; children, Ryan, Shannon and David; his mother, Lanora Harvey of Paint Rock; one sister, Mary Noble and her husband, Frank of Kalispell, Montana and their children, Crystal and Franklin. Wayne Stacy, age 72 years, of Lake Coleman died Sunday, February 15, 2004 at Abilene Regional Medical Center. Graveside services will be 2:00 p. m. today (Thursday, February 18, 2004) at Dressy Cemetery with Mike Stacy officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Higginbotham Funeral Home of Cross Plains. Wayne was born February 26, 1931 to Wilber John and Florrie (Foster) Stacy in Cross Plains. He served in the U.S. Army National Guard of Texas as an Army Recruiter until he retired in 1991. He married Barbara Thompson on November 5, 1994 at Lake Coleman. Survivors include his wife, B. J. Stacy of Lake Coleman; three daughters, Beverly Smith of Cisco, Cathy Schur of Vernon and Melissa Montez of San Antonio; two sons, Jon Stacy and Randy Stacy, both of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and 10 grandchildren. Naoma Yvonne Turnbow, age 66 from Houston passed away Monday evening, February 16, 2004. Visitation will be Friday from 7:00 p. m. to 9:00 p. m. at Stevens Funeral Home in Coleman, Texas. Graveside services will be 11:00 a. m. Saturday at the Burkett Cemetery, Burkett, Texas. Burial will be under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home, Coleman, Texas. Mrs. Turnbow was born September 23, 1937 in Burkett, Texas. She graduated from high school and attended cosmetology school. Naoma was owner and operator of her own hair salon, but her true love was being a wife, mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her father, Eldon A. Morgan. Wesley M. Kile, 92 years of age, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Luther Kile, passed away Tuesday morning (February 17, 2004) in Coleman. Funeral services will be Friday at 10 a. m. at the Coleman Church of Christ with Joe Hailey officiating. Interment will follow in the Brown Ranch Cemetery, under the direction of Walker Funeral Home. He was born May 5, 1911 in Fisk, Coleman, County, Texas. Wesley had lived in Coleman most of his life and was married to the late Miss Katy Lou Abernathy in Silver Valley, Texas. She preceded him in death in 1993. They owned the Manhattan Restaurant in Coleman for several years before retiring. He was a member of the Coleman Church of Christ. Survivors include one sister, Mrs. Winnie Lane of Liberty, Texas; one brother, Curtis Kile of Coleman; and several nephews and nieces. Chester Dempsey, 71, died Tuesday, February 17, 2004, at his residence in Abilene. Funeral service will be 2 p. m. today (Thursday) at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory, with Ray Templeton officiating. Mr. Dempsey was born on July 27, 1932, to Myrtle (Smiley) and Walter Harmon Dempsey in Grosvenor, Texas and moved to Abilene from Coleman in 1960. He was maintenance supervisor for Foremost Dairies and worked at Crown Cork and Seal. He was a Baptist. Chester was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was blessed by his brother, Bill, who took him on numerous fishing trips during the past year. Mr. Dempsey was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Elmer Ray. He is survived by two sons, Eddie Leon Dempsey of Abilene, and Larry Don Dempsey of Brownwood; two daughters, Debra Gaylene Templeton of Abilene and Susan Kay Clark of Columbus, Mississippi; two brothers, Billy Lee Dempsey of Abilene and Clyde Ray Dempsey, of Coleman; a sister, Patsy Langley of Early, Texas, 12 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren. Josephine Amelia Kemp Ragle, age 91, of Coleman died Wednesday, February 18, 2004 at an Abilene nursing home. Funeral services were 1:00 p. m. Saturday, February 21, 2004 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Marty Reed officiating. Burial followed in the Coleman City Cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home. Josephine was born February 11, 1913, in Coleman County. She was the daughter of William Henry Kemp and Nora Huddleston Kemp. Josephine married George Ragle on February 13, 1953, in Elbert, Texas. George preceded her in death in 1973. Josephine was a homemaker and lived most all of her life in Coleman County. She was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Coleman. Josephine was also preceded in death by four brothers and one sister. Her brothers were William Marvin Kemp, Cecil Merle Kemp, Melvin Kemp, and Lieuen C. Kemp. Her sister was Virginia Viola "Jimmie" Kemp Sides. Survivors include Tommy Ragle of Newark, Linda Davis of Fort Worth, one granddaughter, Julie, of Fort Worth, and one great-grand-daughter. Three nephews: Billy Joe Kemp of Fort Worth, Kayo Kemp of Abilene, and Curtis Merle Sides of Madrid, Spain, and two nieces: Patsy Powell of Sulphur Springs, and Ann Wilson of Coleman. Daniel Norvell, age 67, of Coleman, passed away February 18, 2004 at his residence. A memorial funeral service was held at 2 p. m. Saturday, February 21st at Walker Funeral Chapel with Dr. Charles Sheffield officiating. Son of the late James Thomas Henry and Tenny Pricilla Rape, he was born in Floyd County, Texas on March 9, 1937. On November 22, 1981 he married Ardys Huff on Lamb County, Texas. Dan had been in Coleman County since 1994. He was a veteran of WWII, retired, and a Baptist. He is survived by four daughters; Ann Burch of Freona, Linda Lagley of Liberty Hill, Connie Roberts of Coleman, and Tammy Mardis of Canyon: one son Rick Wall of New Mexico: one sister, Dorothy. Daniel Webster Norvell, 77 Daniel Webster Norvell passed away at his home in Coleman on February 19, 2004. He was born in 1927 and attended school in Floyd County. He served in the U. S. Army Ordinance following WWII, including a tour with the Army of Occupation in Germany. He rode in professionsl rodeos for many years and was also a cattle inspector and in the cattle care business. He was a trucker. He was preceded in death by his wives, Wanda Whitley Gilliam, and also Ardys Huff Wall in 1997; three brothers, Buther, Buck and Tommie; one sister, Geneva Schroeder; and one stepson. He is survived by one sister, Dorothy Howard of Sedan, New Mexico. Also surviving are five stepchildren; 12 step- grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Vera May Hedden, age 88, of Coleman, died Thursday, February 19, 2004 at Coleman County Medical Center. Funeral service was held at 3:30 p. m. Saturday in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jeff Moore officiating. Burial followed at the Gouldbusk Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home. She was born Vera May Fiveash on January 6, 1916 in Coleman County, Texas to the late John and Ruth Cowan Fiveash. She grew up in Coleman and Concho Counties where she also attended school. She later graduated from Jolly Beauty School in San Angelo. On April 3, 1943 she married Gavaun "Dick" Hedden in San Angelo and he preceded her in death on March 6, 1991. Vera May lived in Abilene for a number of years and was a beautician. She returned to live in Coleman County in 1976 and was a member of Gouldbusk Baptist Church. Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law, Jacquelyn and Richard Lutz of Austintown, Ohio, Jerilyn and Chris Moore of Coleman and Cindy Jane Hedden of Austintown, Ohio; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gavaun and Carol Hedden of Rotan, Texas and Galaird Elbert "Gig" and Kerri Hedden of Lumberton, Texas; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; three brothers and four sisters-in-law, Elbert and Ruby Fiveash and Jack and Doris Fiveash, all of Eola, Texas, Wayne and Maurine Fiveash of Crockett, Texas and Dorothy Fiveash of Ballinger. Robert Estes, 78, of McGregor died Thursday morning, February 19, 2004. Private graveside services and interment were 2 p. m. Sunday at Rockwood Cemetery in Rockwood, Texas, near Santa Anna, under the direction of Cole Funeral Home of McGregor, with Ricky Gonzales officiating. Mr. Estes was born October 15, 1925, in Rockwood to John Drury and Mary "Mollie" Ann (Burson) Estes, and he was a 1941 graduate of Rockwood High School. During WWII, he served his country in the Army. On June 14, 1947, he married Faye Hartmann in Bangs, Texas, and moved to McGregor in 1956 from Coleman. For more than 30 years, he was employed as a seed processor for McGregor Milling and Grain, retiring in 1992. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Clinton Estes. Survivors include his wife, Faye Estes of McGregor; daughter, Phyllis Elaine and husband, Lynden Kersh of Hempstead; brother J. D. Estes of Ontario, California; sister, Jessie Mae Mankins of Coleman; grandchildren, Robert Kersh of Hempstead and Noelle and husband Ricky Gonzales of Katy; and four great-grandchildren, Ryan, Dustin, Kaytlin, and Austin Gonzales. Richard B. (Jim) Ferguson, life- long aviator, left this world on his final flight to be with his savior, Jesus Christ on Thursday, February 19, 2004, at the age of 78. He embraced a full life with gusto and humor, forming family and friendships that left this world a better place for all who knew him. Funeral services was 2:00 p. m. Saturday, February 21, 2004 at Community Memorial Funeral Home, 1443 North 2nd Street, Abilene, Texas with Rev. Chad King officiating. Burial followed the Cedar Hill Cemetery, Masonic Section, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home, Coleman, Texas. He was born in Abilene and graduated from high school in Kermit. After high school, he graduated from Army Air Corps Aviation Cadet College at Ellensburg, Washington and went on to pilot numerous military aircraft until the end of World War II. He then married Janette Jones in 1945 and settled in Tulare, California. He instructed flying in many general aviation aircraft, flew crop dusting and performed acrobat and stunt flying at area events. Moving to San Diego, California, he joined Rohr Corporation in the Aerospace Industry, retiring thirty years later as cost estimator section supervisor. He continued his contribution to general aviation throughout his life, flying as a pilot instructor while also starting a Fixed Base Operation, BarAero, at National City Airport, and then Brown Field, San Diego as Flying J Aviation. He also commanded units in Civil Air Patrol, Auxiliary of the United States Air Force, including Group 3 covering all of San Diego County. He concluded over 50 years of continuous participation CAP 3 as a Lt. Colonel and California Wing Chief Check Pilot, with over 11,000 hours of flying, often in his World War II vintage T-6 Texan. He left San Diego for Coleman, Texas in 1991 to add to his investments in real estate. He continued to fly his aircraft between San Diego and Coleman, enjoying stops in between to visit family and friends while managing his properties. Jim is survived by three sons, Rich Ferguson of San Antonio, Ron Ferguson of Chulavista, California, Royce Ferguson of Vista, California; one sister, Earlyne Robertson of Canyon Lake, Texas; former wife, Janette Ferguson of Chulavista, California; grandchildren, Laurie Owen and husband Kurt, of San Antonio, James Ferguson of Houston, Bill Ferguson of Bakersfield, California, Leah Abbondondolo of Florida, Derek Morris of San Diego; great-grandchildren, Kory and Judy Owen of San Antonio and several nieces and nephews. Walter Johnson, Jr., 72 years of age of Lampasas, Texas passed away February 20, 2004. Services were Monday at 2 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Stanislaw of First Baptist Church officiating. Interment followed in the Coleman City Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Home. He was born April 18, 1931 in Fayette County, Texas. He married Elaine Harrell Lloyd in Sonora, Texas on May 11, 1973 and was the son of the late Walter Johnson, Sr. and Alvina Brunner Johnson. Walter lived in Fort Stockton, Texas from 1972 until 1998, at which time they moved to Lampasas. He had retired from the oil field as a driller and tool pusher and was a member of the Baptist Church. He served his country in the Korean War. Walter is survived by his wife, Elaine Johnson, of Lampasas, Texas and mother-in-law, Mrs. Raymond (Oleta) Harrell of Lampasas, Texas; one son and daughter-in-law, Othie and Goergianna Lloyd Jr. of Shawnee, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Michael and Melissa Lloyd of Lampasas; Melissa and John of Fort Polk, Louisiana; Barry Wayne Lloyd of Nashville, Tennessee; Troy David Lloyd of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; one bother, Robert Johnson of Flatonia, Texas; two sisters, Evelyn Reese of Houston and Wilma Jean and Melton Christian of Weimer, Texas; three aunts, Minnie Seeburger of Latonia, Pauline Brown of El Paso and Gladys and Johnny Susen of Smithville, Texas; many cousins, nieces and nephews. Libbie Ardena Poindexter Gorman, 92 years old, died Sunday, February 22, 2004 at Holiday Hill Nursing Home in Coleman. Graveside services were 10:00 a. m. Monday, February 23, 2004 at Rough Creek Cemetery with D. G. Allen officiating. Services were under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home. She was born April 14, 1911 to Will and Amelia Johnson Poindexter in Oplin. She married Jack Gorman May 14, 1927 in Baird. Jack and Libbie lived in Coleman and Taylor Counties where Jack worked in the oil field until 1955, when they moved to Aztec, New Mexico. Because of Jack¹s failing health, they moved to Las Cruces in 1966. After Jack died, Libbie remained in Las Cruces a short time before moving to Farmington to work at the Navajo Methodist Mission as dorm mother until she retired and moved back to Novice. She enjoyed being near Tom and Myrtle, and other family members and many old friends. She moved to the High Rise in Coleman where she made new friends and enjoyed many activities. Due to failing health, she moved to Holiday Hill Nursing Center where she enjoyed and participated in their planned activities. Most of Libbie¹s life, she was a homemaker. Like the noble woman in Proverbs 31, she went about her work vigorously. Many women do noble things but you surpass them all. Libbie was a member of Novice Methodist Church. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Earnestine Gorman of Las Cruces, New Mexico; a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Barry Davis of Rio Vista, Texas; a sister, Lola Mae Stevens of Woodward, Oklahoma; a brother, Henry Poindexter of Fort Stockton; four grandsons, several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Mildred Forbess Rodgers, age 84, of Coleman, died Tuesday, February 24, 2004 at Abilene Regional Medical Center. Funeral service was 2:00 p. m. Saturday at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in the Coleman Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home. She was born Mildred Forbess on December 10, 1919 in Coleman County, Texas to Ancil and Etta Barnett Forbess. She grew up in Brown County and attended school at Brookesmith. In 1936 she married Elmer Rodgers in Coleman. She lived in Brownwood for four years and Fort Worth for four years before moving back to Coleman. She was a homemaker, a past member of the Garden Club, and a member of Elm Street Church of Christ. Survivors include her husband, Elmer Rodgers of Coleman; two daughters and one son-in-law, Patsy Jackson of San Angelo and Sharon and Fred Goble of Mission Viejo, California; one son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Cheryl Rodgers of Grand Prairie, Texas; four grandchildren: Tal and wife Deborah Jackson, Takoma Baldwin, Kristi and husband Dexter Baber, Andy and wife Christina Hausenfluke; three great-grandchildren, Sara Baldwin, Lindsey Baldwin and Chloe Jackson. Winifred C. Watson, 87, of San Angelo passed away on February 25, 2004 at his residence. Services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Saturday, February 28th in Davis-Morris Funeral Home chapel with Ted Kell of Brownwood and Paul Shero of San Angelo officiating. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Cemetery in Brownwood. Winifred was born December 8, 1916 in Rockwood, Texas. He was the 5th of 8 children born to William Booker and Lottie Mae Watson. Winifred joined the U.S. Airforce in 1941 and was discharged in 1948 as a Staff Sergeant. While in the Airforce he was a parachute packer. Following his discharge he farmed in Coleman County and was employed with the Civil Service packing parachutes at Reese AFB in Lubbock. After retiring from farming in 1975, he did church work, sold real estate, played golf and gardened. Winifred was a faithful member of Austin Ave. Church of Christ while living in Brownwood, Texas and Southgate Church of Christ in San Angelo. Winifred was married to Tennie L. Davis on April 12, 1944 in Waco, Texas. She preceded him in death on February 23, 1997. Following her death he moved to San Angelo. Winifred was also preceded in death by his parents, 5 siblings, son Gene Sherrod and his wife Chloe and beloved daughter-in-law Reba Sherrod. Floyd Franklin Bowers, age 65, of Bangs passed away in Brownwood on Thursday, February 26, 2004. Funeral services were held at 11 a. m. Saturday at Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Ken Smith of Heartland Church officiating. Interment followed in the Zephyr Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Morris Funeral Home. Floyd was born October 12, 1938 in Coleman to John Henry Sr. and Claudia Smith Bowers. He married Beverly Morris on June 25, 1963 in Brownwood. He had been a resident of Bangs since 1971. He was a faithful member of Heartland Church, serving in any area where he was needed. Donovan R. Taylor, 88 years of age of Brownwood Lake, formerly longtime resident of Coleman, passed away in the Brownwood Regional Hospital February 29, 2004. Services will be 2 p. m. Thursday in Walker Funeral Home Chapel of Coleman with Mrs. Helen McIver officiating, the Methodist minister of First Methodist Church Ballinger. Interment will follow in the Voss Cemetery with Walker Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. He was born November 5, 1915 in Fisk, Texas and was married to Miss Eleanor Fecher in Cisco, Texas October 15, 1942. He had retired from farming and the Corps of Engineers. He was a member of Trinity Methodist Church. Survivors are his wife, Eleanor Taylor of Lake Brownwood; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy Sue and Cal Oates of Lake Brownwood; son and daughter-in-law, Radford and Suzy Taylor of DeSoto, Texas; three grandchildren, Gina K. Taylor Vincent T. Taylor and Lynne Taylor Oates; and three step-grandchildren, Thomas Oates, Timothy Oates and Kevin Oats; and several cousins. Jean Allen, age 94, of Midland and former Leaday and Coleman resident, died Sunday, February 29, 2004 at Midland Memorial Hospital. Graveside funeral service will be 11:00 a. m. Wednesday at Leaday Cemetery with Rev. Mark Smith officiating. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home. She was born Jean Self on January 7, 1910 in Shep, Texas and was the daughter of David and Julia Ann Hawkins Self. She grew up in Shep and attended school there. On March 9, 1930 she married Roy Allen in Shep and he preceded her in death on December 5, 1986. She lived in Leaday and Coleman until moving to Midland in 1954. She was Baptist. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Sam and Inez Allen of Midland; one daughter, Wanda Newton of Fontana, California; two sisters, Mae Allen of Leaday and Nell Walker of Wingate; five grandchildren; 10 great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, T'nee Allen. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5:00 p. m. until 6:00 p. m. at Stevens Funeral Home.
