Dago Alexander, age 75 of Coleman, died Monday, September 1, 2003 at Coleman County Medical Center.  Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a. m. today (Thursday) at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Stanislaw officiating, assisted by Sam Wilson.  Graveside service will be held at 4:00 p. m. at Archer City Cemetery with Roger Deerinwater officiating.  Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Dago was born January 3, 1928 in Olney, Texas and was a son of Blocker and Sally Souther Alexander.  He grew up in Olney and attended school there.  He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II and moved to Coleman in 1955.  He owned and operated Dago Oil Well Cementing Company, A & S Transport, Dago Pipe & Salvage and Dago Casing Pulling, Inc.  Dago married Tom Farmer on April 6, 1979 in Archer City.  He was a member of Community Baptist Church in Coleman.

Survivors include his wife, Tom Alexander of Coleman; one daughter, Nancy Helms of Coleman; one son, Roy Alexander of Granbury; two step-daughters, Shari Haigood of Abilene and Bonnie West Hennig of Glen Cove; three step-sons, Chris Haigood of Coleman, Charlie Cullins of Coleman and Bill Cullins of San Angelo; three brothers, Alvin Alexander of Pampa, Cletis Alexander of Archer City and Glenn Alexander of Wichita Falls; one sister, Dona Woods of Seymour; six grandchildren, Tanya Fulbright, Leigh Ann Qualia, Tera Woods, Christie Wolfley, Carla Cervantez, Katherine Harris; 11 great-grandchildren; special friends and extended family: Trecie Wallace, Don and Viki Allen, Melissa, Ronnie, Rick and Rowdy Mayo, Ed Pineiro, Betty Newton, Dr. Sandip Mathur, Mishi, Nikki and Simi.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Vickie Phillips in 1995; a brother, Jack Alexander in 1991; and a grandson, Chad Allen Davis in 1971.  Pallbearers will be Charlie Cullins, Bill Hennig, Sid Palmer, Donnie Allen, Brent McMillan, Ed Pineiro, Ronnie Mayo and Jerry Bob McAlister.  Honorary pallbearers are Rex Mahan, Wayne McClure, Burl Keller, Corky Chapman, Marvin Titsworth, Roy Rhoads, Rodney McCarty, Dr. Sandip Mathur, Don Allen, Howard Childress, Jarvis George and Ken Greaves.

Ellen Jones Townsend, age 96 of Coleman, died Tuesday, September 2, 2003 at her residence. Graveside funeral service will be held at 2:00 p. m. Friday at Coleman City Cemetery with The Rev. Dr. Henry N. Chisholm officiating.  Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Ellen was born June 26, 1907 in Talpa, Coleman County, Texas and was the daughter of the late Edwin Maryland Jones and Mattie Eugenia Zivley Jones.  She grew up in Coleman and graduated from Coleman High School and Daniel Baker College in Brownwood.  She was married to Bill Townsend and he preceded her in death on August 22, 1958.  She taught school in Tyler, Burkett and El Paso for a number of years and was a member of the Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include a niece and nephew, Joanna Gentry Baldwin and husband Rowland of Tyler and George McCrea and wife Jane of San Angelo; niece-in-law, Dianne McCrea of Horseshoe Bay; seven great-nieces and great-nephews; ten great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

Mrs. Maude Dobbins Kelley, age 93 of Coleman, passed away September 2, 2003 in the Coleman County Medical Center.  Services will be held today (Thursday) at 2:00 p. m. at the Central Baptist Church of Coleman with David Jenkins officiating.  Interment will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Home of Coleman.  Deacons of the church will be pallbearers.

Mrs. Kelley was born January 6, 1910 in Coleman County and was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Drew and Dora Dobbins.  She had lived in Coleman all of her life and was a member of the Central Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Glen and Edie Cullins of Bangs; one son-in-law Robert Knowles; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by one daughter, Betty Doris Knowles; one great-granddaughter, one great-grandson, four sisters and five brothers.

Verna Jackson Slate, age 95 of Arlington, passed away Thursday, September 4, 2003.  Funeral services were held Saturday, September 6, 2003 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Arlington.  Graveside services and burial were at 11:00 a. m. Monday in Gouldbusk Cemetery in Gouldbusk, Texas under the direction of Arlington Funeral Home.

Verna was born August 30, 1908 in Eddy, the daughter of the late Joel and Mable Jackson.  She married Sam Slate in 1927 and he preceded her in death in 1945.  She retired as a telephone operator from GTE Telephone Company in 1973 after 27 years of service, and moved to Arlington in 1987.

Survivors include two sons, Lewis Glenn Slate and wife, B. J. of Arlington and Leon Odell Slate and wife Norma and her family of Kettle Falls, Washington; grandchildren, Pam Terrell and husband, Ron, Lisa Slate and friend, Sandy Steele, Tanya Slate Admire and husband, Ray, Sissy (Verna) of St. Louis; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Laverne Blackwell, Vivian Lorene Blair, Gladys Pope; numerous nieces and nephews; and especially her sisters and brothers of the Eastern Star.  Local survivors include Horace and Thelma Slate, Vernon and Mary Slate, Archie and Pat Slate, Esther Slate, James and Wanda Dieterich and Ruby and Lonnie Jackson.  Another relative is Jean Gunn from Pittsburgh, Texas.  She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; brothers, Fred Jackson, Waid Jackson and Garland (Skeet) Jackson; and sister, Velma Dieterich.

Ben O. Wilson, age 93, of Coleman, died Monday, September 8, 2003 at Coleman County Medical Center.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Wednesday at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Joe Hailey officiating, assisted by Donald Williams.  Burial will follow at the Glen Cove Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Ben was born July 4, 1910 in Coleman County, Texas and was a son of the late Benjamin M. Wilson and Hettie Elizabeth Jones Wilson.  He grew up in Coleman County and attended school at New Central.  On September 4, 1929, he married Cora Trapp in Coleman and she preceded him in death on April 22, 1998.  He was a life-long resident of Coleman and was a stock farmer.  He had also worked for John Deere Implement Company.  Ben was a charter member of the Coleman Rodeo Association, a director and past president of Farm Bureau and a director of the Colorado River Soil and Water Conservation District.  He was a member of the Elm Street Church of Christ.

Survivors include one brother and sister-in-law, G. W. and Marjorie Wilson of Coleman; one sister, Oleta Thate of Coleman; several nieces and nephews including David Scott of San Angelo, Ben Scott, Joyce Anderson and Virginia Bethke, all of Coleman; several great-nieces and great-nephews and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.  He was preceded in death by a son, Charles Orval Wilson in 1939 his parents; his wife; and a sister, Billie Scott.

Memorials may be made to the donor’s favorite charity.  Family visitation will be held tonight (Tuesday) from 6:00 p. m. until 8:00 p. m. at the funeral home.

Graveside services for R.G. Bland, age 81, of Tyler (formerly of the Santa Anna area) were 2:00 p. m. Friday at the Tyler Memorial Park Cemetery, under the direction of Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Directors.  Rev. Ron Wells and Dan Wheeler officiated.  Mr. Bland passed away Tuesday, September 9, 2003.

He was born January 15, 1922 in Maisefield, Texas to the late William Kelly Bland and Johnnie Bell Jenkins Bland.  Mr. Bland was in the US Army during WWII, 778th Tank Battalion driver and gunner, commanded by Gen. George Patton.  He received the Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars.  He was a member of the St. John’s Lodge, Sharon Temple, 32nd degree Mason, past President of Sharon Temple Horse Patrol, Local 112 Asbestos Workers of Lake Charles, Louisiana, member of the Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Southside Baptist Church.  He owned a commercial insulation company and later in life worked for Sandefer and Son Motors, Inc.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Mary Bland; sons, Jimmy Bland and wife Sue of Tyler, Richard Bland and wife Michele of Fort Worth; daughter, Linda Sandefer and husband Eddie of Tyler; brother, Johnny R. Bland of Cedar Hill; sisters, Wanda Jenkins, Joy McAllister, Belle Fern Lawson, all of Sanger, Texas, Olta Clark of Mabank; grandchildren, Amy Cunningham, Jennifer Sandefer, Beck Sandefer and Dennis Bland; and great-grandchildren Sylas and
Kai.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Hugh Bland and granddaughter, Dana Lynn Bland.  Honorary pallbearers were Charles Ray, Cliff Wallace, Ed Hartman and Noble Wise.  Memorials may be made to Scottish Rite Hospital, Shriners’ Childrens Hospital or a charity of one’s choice.

Martha Theda Dunman Taylor, daughter of Theo and Mary Inez Morris Dunman, died Friday, September 12, 2003 at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene, Texas.  She was 86 years old.  Funeral service for Martha Taylor was held on Monday, September 15, 2003 at 10:00 a. m. in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with The Rev. Dr. Henry N. Chisholm officiating, assisted by Baker Rudolph. Burial followed in the Coleman City Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

As a granddaughter of J. P. Morris, she is the last of her generation, and leaves a ranching legacy of strong family traditions and heritage for her extended family to follow.  She lived all her life in Coleman County.  Her young years were spent with her parents on the XV Ranch near Novice.  She attended and played tennis for Southern Methodist University.  Upon receiving her teaching certificate, she taught school at Goldsboro and Silver Valley.  In 1939 Martha married Charles Robert Taylor.  Charles and Martha worked with Ms. Dunman on the XV Ranch until her death.  Shortly thereafter, Charles and Martha formed the Double X Ranch, which they both successfully operated for many years.

In addition, Martha owned and operated the House of Color in Coleman where she held “court” for many years.  As an employer, she served as a mentor for numerous young DECA students.  Martha was an active supporter of 4-H and FFA.  Her fondest memories with her children and many other Texas youth were those times spent showing cattle at various livestock shows.  With her unique personality and generous heart, Martha was well recognized as a strong, fun loving and independent woman.

As a first generation member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority, Martha encouraged and promoted the college Greek life to many young Coleman County women including two Theta legacies and seven additional Theta cousins.  She was an active Theta alum and participated in the Abilene Panhellenic.  She was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

Martha was preceded in death by her grandparents, J. P. and Martha Miranda Morris, her parents, Theo (Teke) and Mary I. Dunman, her sister Sarah Nowlin and Sarah’s husband, Jim Nowlin, and her husband, Charles Robert Taylor, Sr.

She is survived by her son, Charles Robert (C. T.) Taylor, Jr. and his family including wife Shelly Sipes Taylor, grandson, Lance and great-granddaughter Amber, granddaughter, Stephanie (Teffi) and her husband Jeff Eaton, and grandson, Kent; daughter Sara Sue Taylor Kirtley and her family including husband Benny, granddaughter Cindy and grandson Steven and his wife Christine; daughter, Mary Lou (Doodie) Taylor - Knox and her family including husband Jack, granddaughter Ashley and her husband James Puryear, and granddaughter, LeMoine; son Joseph Evans (Jet) Taylor, and his family including wife Ann Holmes Taylor, grandson Jim and great-granddaughter Julia, and granddaughter Alise.  Numerous Morris and Taylor family nieces, nephews and cousins also survive Martha.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the First Presbyterian Church of Coleman, the Coleman Library, or the Coleman County Youth Activity Building Fund.

CLYDE: Brandon Lee Bruton, 22, of Abilene, passed away Tuesday, September 16, 2003 at an Abilene hospital.  Services were Friday at 10:00 a. m. at Bailey Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Billy Sellers officiating with burial in the Belle Plain Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home.

Brandon was born November 17, 1980 in Cisco, Texas to Charles and Janette Smith Bruton.  He was a 1999 graduate of Clyde High School.  After graduating he went to work for Tige Boats as a boat builder. He recently won second place in the Texas Grasscar Hot-Rod Lawnmower Race in Cranfills Gap, Texas on September 13, 2003.

Brandon is survived by his father and stepmother, Charles and Glenda Bruton of Brownwood; his mother, Jan Bruton of Abilene; one brother, Christopher Bruton of Waco; one sister and brother-in-law, Penny and James Evatt of Kerrville; grandparents, W. R. Bruton of Coleman and Bill and Betty Smith of Stamford; one niece and one nephew; several aunts, uncles; numerous cousins and many friends.

Mrs. C. H. (Glenna) Barnett, age 79, of Coleman died Wednesday, September 17, 2003 at Cross Country Healthcare Center in Brownwood.  Funeral services were held at 10:00 a. m. Saturday at Bible Baptist Church in Coleman.  Burial followed in the Crews Cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Mrs. Barnett was born January 3, 1924 in Crews, Texas, a daughter of Courtney Collom and Delia Keaton Collom.  She was reared in Crews where she attended school.  She married Floyd McDaniel in 1943 in Crews and he preceded her in death in 1967.  She married C. H. Barnett in 1973 and he preceded her in death in 1991.  She was an active member of the Coleman Senior Citizens Center, Loaves and Fishes Ministries and Bible Baptist Church in Coleman.

Mrs. Barnett is survived by one daughter, Susan McKissick of Brookesmith, Texas; two brothers, Alfred Collom of Crews, Texas and Howard Collom of Hobbs, New Mexico; two step-sons, Olen Barnett of Tyler, Texas and Gilbert Barnett of Clifton, Texas; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Barnett was preceded in death by a son David McDaniel; step-daughter, Joyce Dugens; sister, Gladys Cotton; and a great -nephew, Courtney Collom.

S. Evelyn Thompson, age 82, of Abilene passed away Friday, September 19, 2003 at an Abilene care facility.  Graveside services were 3:00 p. m. Saturday at Elmwood Memorial Park with Reverend Joe Welsh officiating.  Burial followed under the direction of Elmwood Funeral Home.

Evelyn was born to the late Charlie and Lillie Leona Thompson on December 24, 1920 in Fisk, Texas.  She attended school in Coleman, Texas where she graduated from Coleman High School.  She worked at Camp Barkley during WWII, then for Coleman County Clerk’s Office for many years.  Evelyn moved to Abilene in the late 1950’s where she worked for Abilene Savings as a legal secretary until she retired.

Survivors include one sister, Marvella Craig and her husband Billy Mack of Abilene; one brother, Virgil Thompson and his wife Geneva of Lubbock; nieces, Carolyn Craig Bevills of Abilene, Carla Craig Holland of Abilene, Lillian Smith of Alabama, Leticia Bevills McJimsy of Snyder; one nephew, Johnny Bevills of Abilene; and several other nieces and nephews.

James E. Smith, age 47 of O’Falllon, Missouri died Wednesday, September 24, 2003 at St. Joseph Health Center in St. Charles, Missouri.  Funeral service was held at 2:00 p. m. Friday, September 26, 2003 at St. Charles Memorial Gardens with interment following at the same location.  Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Baue Funeral Home of St. Charles, Missouri.

James was born October 13, 1955 at Kermit, Texas to Rev. Clarence Ray and Betty S. Smith. Rev. Clarence Smith was former pastor of Bible Baptist Church and Concho Baptist Church in Coleman.  James had worked for the Texas Highway Department and was disabled.

Survivors include his mother, Betty S. Smith of O’Fallon, Missouri; one son, Shane Franklin Smith of St. Charles, Missouri; and one brother, David Ray Smith and wife Kathryn of O’Fallon, Missouri.

Former Coleman resident Edna McWhirter Jackson passed away September 24, 2003 in Jeffery Nursing Home in Waco.  She was buried at Waco Memorial Cemetery at 10:00 a. m. on Saturday, September 27, 2003.

Edna was born to Don and Pearl McWhirter on February 3, 1907.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, D. R. Jackson; one sister and two brothers.

Survivors include one nephew and two nieces of Coleman.

A.G. (Corky) Chapman, age 69, lifelong resident of Coleman County passed away Friday September 26, 2003, at his residence in Coleman.  Funeral services were 2:00 p. m. Sunday at Walker Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in the Coleman City Cemetery.  Arrangements were under the direction of Walker Funeral Home.Corky, a farmer and rancher, was Sheriff of Coleman County for eight years (1969 - 1976).

He was born October 20, 1933 in Coleman, Texas.  His father, George Lee Chapman and his mother Clifton Ellie Poynor Chapman, preceded him in death.  He married JoDean Whittington on August 18, 1983 in Waurika, Oklahoma.

Corky is survived by his wife, JoDean Chapman, of Coleman; two daughters Shana and husband Michael Jewell of Coleman and Shelly and husband Wally Dobbins of Coleman; one son, Michael and wife Tara of Junction; one special son and daughter, Paul and Angela Whittington; a brother, T. J. and wife Betty Chapman of Austin; his mother-in-law Myrtle Jo Smith of Coleman, special sister-in-law, Hazel Chapman of Abilene; and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Jack Chapman and Dorman Chapman.  Pallbearers were Bill Hennig, James Priddy, Red Pyburn, Alan Davis, Clyde Saverance, Mike Wilson.  Honorary pallbearers included Lee Perkins, Wayne Knowles, Dan Norvell, Robert Dobbins, Gene Dobbins, Johnny Dobbins, Donnie Glen Smith, Pete Cope, Rondoe Horton, Marvin Titsworth, Omer Cullins, Baker Rudolph and members of the Downtown Men’s Bible Sunday School Class.  The family requests memorials be sent to the Coleman County Youth Activity Center or donor’s choice of charity.

Lillie M. ‘MeMe’ Fritz, 82, died Friday, September 26, 2003, at her residence in Abilene.  Funeral services were 12 noon Monday at Elliott - Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Faith in Abilene, with Rev. Alma Roberts officiating.  Burial was in Elmwood Memorial Park.

Lillie was born to James W. and Edna Z. (Clevenger) Alcorn on September 1, 1921, in Lawn, Texas.  She attended high school in Coleman, and moved from Coleman to Abilene in 1968.  She worked at Saddle and Sirloin in Abilene from 1968 until her marriage to Jesse William Fritz on May 19, 1972, in Abilene.  She was a member of First Church of God in Abilene.

Survivors include a son, Richard Todd Smith of Coleman; a daughter, Tonya Gale Goodwin and husband, Gordon, of Abilene; five grandchildren, Jasa Johnson of Tacoma, Washington, Michael Chad Vickers, R. D. Vickers, and Brian Goodwin all of Abilene, and Joshua Alvey of Coleman; four great-grandchildren; and a special caregiver, Rachel Stokes and her family. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Hilda Ruth Cogdill, age 54, of Coleman, died Friday, September 26, 2003 at Coleman County Medical Center.  Funeral service was held at 2:00 p. m. Monday, September 29, 2003 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Joe Hailey officiating.  Burial followed at the Brown Ranch Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Hilda was born December 13, 1948 in Houston, Texas and was the daughter of the late Arthur L. Hill, Sr. and Martha Tom Graham Hill.  She grew up in Houston and attended school there.  On April 5, 1969 she married Ronnie Carroll Cogdill in Houston.  Hilda worked for Houston Light and Power for 16 years and moved to Coleman in 1984.  She was a homemaker, a member of the Good Neighbor Club and Elm Street Church of Christ.

Survivors include her husband, Ronnie Cogdill of Coleman; one son and daughter-in-law, Les and Laurie Cogdill of Coleman; one daughter, Crystal Cogdill of Coleman; five grandchildren, Dustin E. Dela Rosa, Shelton W. Cogdill, Cody L. Cogdill, Serenity C. Cogdill and Kilea Rose Cogdill, all of Coleman; three brothers, Art Hill, Jr. and wife Charlene of Waelder, Texas; Joe Hill and wife Sid of Austin and Thomas B. Betty Francis Gay Zabel, 79, of Brownwood died Friday, September 26, 2003 at a Brownwood nursing home.  Graveside services were held at 4 p. m. Sunday at the Cedar Point Cemetery in Brown County, directed by Heartland Funeral Home.

She was born on July 12, 1924 in Cannon, Texas, the daughter of the late Aaron and Betty Neal Gay.  She married Charles Louis Zabel on September 30, 1945 in Longview.  He preceded her in death on March 21, 1991.  Betty served her country during World War II through the U. S. Army as a 2nd Lt. Nurse.  She was a retired registered nurse and had been a resident of Brownwood since 1980.  She was formerly of Rockwood, Texas.  She was a Baptist and a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church of Coleman.

Survivors include four sons, Jerry Zabel and wife Melissa of Brown County, Charles Don Zabel of Brownwood, Ricky Zabel and wife Judy of Bangs, and Larry Wayne Zabel and wife Phyllis of Santa Anna; two daughters, Betty Gay Brown and husband Larry of Santa Anna, Kelly Lane Zabel of San Angelo; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, five brothers and three sisters.

Shirley Ann Falkner Johnson, 73 years of age, the daughter of the late Rev. Henry V. and Macy Falkner, born December 4, 1929 in San Angelo, Texas, passed away September 28, 2003 at her residence in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  Funeral service was 10 a. m. Wednesday at the Tom G. Walker Funeral Home Chapel in Coleman with Rev. Gary Bender officiating and Delbert Wilson assisting.  Interment followed in the Coleman City Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Home.

She graduated from high school in Cross Plains, Texas in 1947.  She was employed at the Cross Plains Citizens State Bank and Higginbotham’s Department Store, later moving to Lubbock, then to Austin in 1953 and was employed at the State Comptroller’s office as a bookkeeper.  She later lived in West Texas and Hobbs, New Mexico where she taught children and youth in Bible Study classes for 10 years.  She and her husband Kelley were married July 3, 1959 in El Paso.  She and her husband moved to Albuquerque in 1988.  Until her illness, Shirley was an active member of the Hoffmantown Baptist Church. She played bridge weekly at the Bear Canyon Senior Center.

Survivors include her husband, KelIey; one daughter and son-in-law Julie and Rev. Gary Bender of Tijeras, New Mexico; a son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Julia Johnson of Albuquerque, New Mexico; a sister, Macy Louise Boyles of Brady; four brothers, Henry Falkner of San Angelo, Riley G. Falkner of Abilene, John Falkner of Lovington, New Mexico and Robert Falkner of Longview; six grandchildren, Chad Beal of Santa Anna, Joe Beal and Cody and Casey Johnson, all of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Cassandra Benner and Crystal Hernandez, both of San Antonio.  She was preceded in death by three brothers, Vernon, Dan and W. C.

Pallbearers were grandchildren.  Memorials may be made to the ALS Association, NWM Chapter, Box 16495, Albuquerque, New Mexico 87191-6495.

Dorothy Harris age 77 of Santa Anna, Texas passed away Monday, September 29, 2003 at 3:10 a. m. at Hendricks Medical Center in Abilene.  Services will be Wednesday at 2:00 p. m. at the First Baptist Church of Santa Anna with Rev. Bruce Hess and Rev. Raymond Jones officiating.  Interment will follow at the Santa Anna Cemetery under the direction of Henderson Funeral Home of Santa Anna.  Family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 till 7 p. m. at Henderson Funeral Home.

Dorothy was born in Albany, Texas on July 17, 1926 to George C. and Mabel E. Harvey Burrage.  She was raised in Albany and graduated from the Albany High School in 1943 and attended Hardin Simmons University and graduated from Howard Payne University in 1949.  She married Elgean Harris in Brownwood, Texas on June 28, 1950 and they have celebrated fifty-three years of marriage.  Dorothy has been a resident of Santa Anna since 1946 where she was a member of the First Baptist Church and Sunday School Teacher, also a member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority, and retired Teachers Association.  She was a teacher with Santa Anna ISD until her retirement in 1988.

Survivors: Husband Elgean Harris of Santa Anna, Texas; two Daughters Debbie and husband Tom Nixon of Coleman, Texas, Sandra and husband Wayne Walker of Ennis, Texas; 2 Grandsons Dale Walker of Ennis, Texas, Tyler Nixon of Coleman, Texas; 4 granddaughters Raina and Robin Walker both of Ennis, Texas, Kelly and Katie Nixon both of Coleman, Texas.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her son Tommy Dale Harris in 1985.  Pallbearers: Donnie Neff, Dickie Homer, Jim Howard, Ray Jones, Randy Long, Marty Donham, Pete Rutherford, Dub Aldridge, Vernon Rowe.

David Earl Funderburg, age 50, of Coleman, died Monday, September 29, 2003 at Coleman County Medical Center.  Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a. m. today (Thursday) at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bill Merritt officiating, assisted by Rev. Gary Boyd.  Burial will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Mr. Funderburg was born March 1, 1953 in Mineral Wells, a son of Mary Margaret Parkis Funderburg and the late Claudie Lee Funderburg.  He was reared in Coleman where he attended school.  He married Adelita Banda on October 8, 1974 in Coleman.  He served for 20 years in the United States Army, receiving the Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Commendation Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal and several other service medals.  He returned to Coleman in 1992 and worked as a laborer and was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Samantha Funderburg of Deerfield, Kansas; one son, Manolito Funderburg of Deerfield, Kansas; his mother, Mary Funderburg of Coleman; one sister, Susie Culpepper and husband, Jerry Don of Zephyr; three brothers, Tommie Lee Funderburg of Coleman, Michael Ray Funderburg and wife, Addie of Coleman, Stephen Keith Funderburg of Coleman; two aunts, Geneva Morton and Sandra Steffey, both of Coleman; ex-wife Adelita Funderburg of Deerfield, Kansas and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Darryle Wayne Funderburg.  Pallbearers will be Jerry Don Culpepper, Nick Poldrack, B. J. Deal, Jody Payne, Rick Marshall, Rick Turner and James Stell. 
Honorary pallbearers include Dr. Michael Bailey, Allen Turner and Larry Robison.
