Cleora Beal, 86

Mrs. Bill (Cleora) Beal, age 86 of Coleman died 8:00 p. m. Wednesday, May 1, 2002 at Holiday Hill Nursing Home.  Services were held 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Coleman City Cemetery Pavilion with Rev. John Stanislaw pastor of First Baptist Church officiating under direction of Walker Funeral Home.

Mrs. Beal was born January 16, 1915 in Coleman County to Arthur Clevenger and Dovie Elkins.  She attended high school and married Bill Beal in Coleman March 17, 1934.  He preceded her in death in 1993.  She was a beautician, a Baptist and had lived in the county all her life.

Survivors include two sons, Lou and daughter-in-law, Sheila Beal of Coleman and Dan BeaI of Dallas; three sisters, Betty Culp of San Angelo, Pauline Ferguson of Granbury and Maggie Hayes of Yuma, Arizona; one brother, Haskell and sisterin-law, Lena Clevenger of Mozelle; three grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren.

Susan Andis, 88

Susan Andis, age 88, of Coleman, died Wednesday, May 1, 2002 at a convalescent home in Richardson.  Funeral services were held at 2 p. m. Saturday in First United Methodist Church with Dr. G. Dean Coultas officiating.  Burial was in the Coleman Cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Susan was born November 18, 1913 in Callahan County and was a daughter of Oscar and May Gould McDermett.  She grew up in Callahan County and graduated from Cross Plains High School.  In 1935 she graduated from the Sealy Hospital School of Nursing and served her residency in Dallas.  She married Cecil E. Andis on November 30, 1935 and he preceded her in death on September 5, 1981.  Susan was a private duty nurse until her appointment as Coleman Independent District School Nurse in 1949.  She retired as school nurse in 1980.  She was instrumental in establishing the Candy Striper program at Overall-Morris Memorial Hospital and the Future Nurses Association.  Following her retirement, she was an active volunteer with the Meals-on-Wheels, the Retired Teaches Association and the Coleman Public Library.  She was one of the first tutors in the Laubach Literacy program and served in that capacity for several years.  She was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church where she served on various committees, taught Bible classes and was a member of the Aldersgate Guild.  In 1990, she was named “Woman of the Year” for Coleman.  She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Coleman County Medical Center and helped with the Food Pantry.

Survivors include one daughter, Cecilia Andis of Plano; one son and daughter-in-law, Jerry Charles Andis and Mary Lynne Andis of Nacogdoches; nine grandchildren, Susan Semmens of Brooklyn, New York, Melissa Fleming of New Orleans, Louisiana, Stephanie Owen of Plano, Texas, Jon Hoffpauir of Escondido, California, David Andis of Spring, Texas, Dana Andis of Hilton Head, South Carolina, Laura Kenner of Spring Branch, Texas, Barbara Mitchell of San Augustine, Texas and Jeanne Perry of Nacogdoches, Texas; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.  She was preceded in death by four sisters, Elizabeth Cunningham, Rita Knight, Zora DeBusk and Frances McAnally.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 500 West Liveoak, Coleman, Texas or the VNA Hospice, 1440 W. Mockingbird Lane, Suite 500, Dallas, Texas 75247-4929.  Pallbearers were David Andis, Jon Hoffpauir, Pat DeBusk, Larry McAnally, Dwane Cunningham, Clyde Saverance and Jim Helter.  Honorary pallbearers were Keith Coburn and Charles Coburn.

Barbara Jean Perrie, 65

Barbara Jean Perrie, age 65, of Coleman, died Thursday, May 2, 2002 at Coleman County Medical Center.  Funeral services were held 3:00 p. m. Sunday at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Paul Smith officiating.  Burial followed in the Coleman City Cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Mrs. Perrie was born March 3, 1937, a daughter of John Ivan and Ada Loraine Grimes Bennett.  She was reared and attended schools in Coleman.  She married Lewis Perrie in May, 1953.  He died September 17,1986. She worked as a waitress in local restaurants and was a Baptist.

Survivors include three daughters, Carla Parks, Donna Perrie, Karen Perrie, all of Coleman; two sons, Allen (and wife D’Ann) Perrie of Winters, Bruce Perrie of Coleman; three sisters, Dorothy Freeman, Hazel Wolf, Sue Myers, all of Coleman; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Edward Bennett.  Pallbearers were grandsons:  Justin Sartain, Dylan Perrie, Gaylon Perrie, Aaron Parks, Carl Perrie, Jason Perrie, Randy Perrie, Jeff Wolf and Doug Wolf. Honorary pallbearers were David Croft, Larry Luvaul, Billy Perrie and Michael Perrie.

Jim Sellers, 81

Jim Sellers, age 81, of Coleman died at 1:55 p. m. Thursday, May 2, 2002 at his residence.  Funeral services were held at 2 p. m. Monday at Walker Funeral Home Chapel with David Jenkins and Rickey Rister officiating.  Burial was in Coleman City Cemetery, under the direction of Walker Funeral Home.

Born June 9,1920 in Eastland, Texas, he was the son of Solomon R. Sellers and Meedie M. Huffman.  A resident of Coleman County for 35 years, he was a retired farmer.  He was a World War II veteran and a Baptist.

Survivors include three daughters, Lillie Jo Oxford. Betty Jo Johnson, and Laurie Wright, all of Coleman; three sons, J.D. Sellers of Noodle, Melvin Sellers of Abilene and Randy Aaron of Coleman; three sisters, Teddy Gilliam and Betty Jo Simmons, both of Midland and Lucille Rudd of Olivehurst, California; and 15 grandchildren.

G. W. (Pete) Smith, 78

G. W. (Pete) Smith, age 78 of Southside, Alabama, died Thursday, May 2, 2002.  A memorial service was held Saturday, May 4th at the O’Hatchee Church of Christ with graveside services in Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham, Alabama.

Mr. Smith was born February 14, 1924 in Burkett, Texas to Oliver and iva Younglove Smith.  He graduated from Coleman High School.  Mr. Smith married Lillian Morgan in 1948 in Coleman.  He lived in Abilene until 2000 when he moved to Alabama.  Mr. Smith was a retired butcher with M System Food
Store and was an active member of O’Hatchee Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Raymond and Marshall (Bottles) Smith and one sister, Betty Smith McKinney. Survivors include his wife, Lillian M. Smith of Southside, Alabama; two daughters, Jan and John Dyer of Southside, Alabama and Sharon and R. J. Hronek of Jamestown, North Carolina; two sisters, Sylvia Watson of Abilene and LaVerne Stark of Coleman; four grandchildren, Rebecca Faulkner, Scott Dyer, Elizabeth and Mathew Hronek; and one greatgrandchild, Micah Faulkner.

Joseph William Wood, infant

Joseph William Wood, infant newborn son of Kevin and Amber Wood of Abilene, died Friday, May 3, 2002, in Abilene.  Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a. m. Wednesday in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Bill Roberts officiating.  Burial will follow in the Coleman Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.  Joseph William was born May 3, 2002, in Abilene.

Survivors include his parents, Kevin and Amber Wood of Abilene; two sisters, Ashley Wood of Odessa and Kaitlin Wood of Abilene; one brother, Jacob Wood of Odessa; grandparents, Nita Wood of Coleman, Mona and Dennis Temby of Midland, Francis and Judy Kohn of Park Falls, Wisconsin; great grandmothers, Dona Steinacker and Marie Temby, both of Park Falls, Wisconsin and Marjorie Kohn of San Benito, Texas; several aunts, uncles and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Billy Joe Wood.  Family visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p. m. tonight (Tuesday) at the funeral home.  Pallbearers will be Sean Baker and Ryan Baker.

Wanda V. Lawson, 74

Wanda V. Lawson, age 74, of Lake Coleman, died Sunday, May 5, 2002, at Coleman County Medical Center.  Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p. m. today (Tuesday) at Coleman City Cemetery Pavilion, with Rev. John Collins officiating.  Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Mrs. Lawson was born October 8, 1927 in Newalia, Oklahoma, a daughter of Arthur and Zolla Mae Haygood Rimer.  She was raised and attended school in Oklahoma.  She married Hairl E. Lawson in 1952 in Arlington, New Mexico.  She moved to Crane, Texas in the early 1950’s.  She also lived in Odessa for
30 years and Saudi Arabia for 13 years before moving to Lake Coleman in 1978.  She was a housewife and a Baptist.

Survivors include her husband, Hairl F. Lawson of Lake Coleman; three daughters, Linda Mahan of Weinert, Texas, Pamela Maples of Odessa, Vickie Hodges of Lake Coleman; five brothers, Glen Rimer of Odessa, Wayne Rimer of Chickasaw, Oklahoma, Larry Rimer of Odessa, Donald Rimer of Odessa, Terry Rimer of Brenham; two sisters, Delores Hennech of Odessa, Janet Danner of Odessa; 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Audrey MacNalley; one brother, Cecil Rimer; and a granddaughter, Lendra Hodges.  Pallbearers will be grandsons: Leonard Mahan, Donald Mahan, Bryan West, Gary West, John Robert Hodges and Ben E. Maples.  Honorary pallbearers are her granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Kristie and Brian Griffin.

Mrs. Claudia Looney Bailey, 83

Mrs. Claudia Looney Bailey, age 83, of Dallas died Saturday, May 4, 2002 at her residence.  Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:30 a. m. today (Tuesday) at the Oplin Cemetery with Rev. D. G. Allen officiating.  Services are under the direction of Walker Funeral Home.

Born June 28, 1918 in Oplin, Texas, she was the daughter of Dr. A. D. Looney and Ida Culpepper Looney.  She and G. T. (Tol) Bailey were married on November 23, 1963 in Las Vegas, Nevada.  A graduate of Oplin High School, McMurry College and the University of Southern California, she had been a resident of Dallas since 1954.  She was a member and secretary of Xi Chi, a member of the O.E.S. and a lifetime member of the Methodist Church. She was a retired memorial secretary for Xi Chi.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one brother and three sisters.  Survivors include one sister, Pauline Gwin of Brownwood; three nieces, Laudys Armor Pittard of Novice, Maurine Gwin Moore of Brady and Deanna Wilkerson Ratzow of Bowie, Maryland; and one nephew, John Hubert Gwin.

Mrs. Beady Ann Nealy Titsworth, 89

Mrs. Beady Ann Nealy Titsworth, age 89, of Coleman, died at 1:55 p. m. Saturday, May 4, 2002 at Coleman County Medical Center.  Funeral services will be 2 p.m. today (Tuesday) at Walker Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery, under the direction of Walker Funeral Home.

Born January 11,1913 in Coleman County, she was the daughter of Phillip U. Nealy and Edna F. McQueen Nealy.  On July 10, 1930, she and Ralph Everett Titsworth were married in Valera. He preceded her in death in 1984.  A lifetime resident of Coleman County, she was a housewife and a Baptist.  Survivors include two sons, Marvin Everett Titsworth and Larry Neal (and wife Sue) Titsworth, of Coleman; three brothers, J. T. (and wife Nancy) Nealy of Clute, OIan (and wife Willie) Nealy of Wills Point and Lloyd (and wife Nell) Nealy of Waxahachie; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.

Maynard Newton "Bill" Estes, 62

Maynard Newton “Bill” Estes, 62, of Abilene died Monday, May 6, 2002, at an Abilene medical center. Services were 11 a. m. Wednesday at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory in Abilene with Rev. David Cason off iciating. Burial was in Elmwood Memorial Park.

Mr. Estes was born May 7 1939 in Santa Anna, Texas, to Jack Estes and Florence Summers Estes.  He grew up in Abilene and at the age of 17 enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving his country for six years.  Upon his return to the Abilene area, he worked in sales for various local companies.  At age 55, he graduated from technical school with a degree in the NC and heating field.  Mr. Estes operated a small air conditioning business in the Abilene area.  He was a member of Broadview Baptist Church.

Mr. Estes was preceded in death by his parents.  Survivors include a son, Randall K. Estes of Van Alstyne, Texas; a daughter, Sherri Waller and husband, Richard, and their three children, Joshua, Lacie and Adam of Garland, Texas; a brother, Jack I. Estes, his wife Kathy and their daughter, Lindy of Austin, Texas; and a lifelong friend, Derald Bright.

Ruth Elizabeth Bryant, 91

Ruth Elizabeth Bryant, age 91, passed away Monday, May 6, 2002 at the Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Gorman, Texas.  Services will be 3:00 p. m. today (Tuesday) at the Higginbotham Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Clarence Wilson officiating.  Burial will be at Simpson Cemetery.

Mrs. Bryant was born January 31, 1911 in Eastland County.  She married Hoyt Bryant on July 7,1931 in Gorman.  He preceded her in death in April of 1984.  She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of God.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Patsy Bryant of Novice; son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Martha Bryant of Gorman; daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Roy Foster of DeLeon; sister, Purnia Spaulding of Cisco; 10 grandchildren and 15 greatgrandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, and nine brothers and sisters.

Nina Ernestine Brooks, 66

Mrs. Nina Ernestine Brooks, age 66, of Coleman, died at 9 a. m. Tuesday, May 7, 2002 at her residence.  Funeral services are 2 p.m. today (Tuesday) at Walker Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Gouldbusk Cemetery.

Born October 20, 1935 in Gouldbusk, Texas, she was the daughter of Dernest Leonard Taylor and Virgie Lee (Baker) Taylor.  On September 19, 1971, she and Cleo Brooks were married in Las Vegas, Nevada.  She moved to California in 1938 and returned to Coleman in 1969.  She was a cook and a member of the Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband Cleo C. Brooks of Cisco; a daughter, Kathy Boyd; two sons, Monty Beard and Larry Brooks; two sisters, Frances Burnett of Santa Anna and Shirla Bertoni; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Robert "Bubba" Barton, Sr., 77

Robert “Bubba” Barton, Sr., age 77, of Santa Anna passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2002 at 12:54 p. m. at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene.  Services will be Friday at 2 p. m. at the First United Methodist Church of Santa Anna with Rev. James Ford and Rev. R.L. Brown officiating.  Interment will follow at the Santa Anna Cemetery under the direction of Henderson Funeral Home of Santa Anna.  Family visitation will be today (Thursday) from 7 til 8 p. m. at Henderson Funeral Home.

Robert was born on October 15, 1924 to the late Governor and Luella Hamlett Barton in Jerusalem, Texas and was raised there, attending the Palestine Public Schools.  Robert had been a resident of Coleman County since 1940 where he was employed with Coleman County Precinct 2 as a heavy construction equipment operator.  He married Roeanna Jackson on November 6, 1948 in Coleman, Texas and he was a member of the Baptist church.

Survivors include his wife, Roeanna Barton of Santa Anna, Texas; five daughters Roberta Barton Thomas of Glenn Heights, Texas, Betty Roberson of Coleman, Texas; Roxie Hasting of Santa Anna, Texas; Amanda Roberson of Brownwood, Texas; Virginia Barton of Madisonville, Texas; six sons, Robert Barton, Jr. of Mozelle, Texas; Randall Roberson of Brownwood, Texas; Brandon Roberson of Brownwood, Texas; Terrance Roberson of Brownwood, Texas; R.L. Barton of Madisonville, Texas, R. J. Barton of Madisonville, Texas; two sisters, Mozelle Watson and Amy Barton of Los Angeles, California; a brother, Ben Barton of Los Angeles, California; five grandchildren; and three great- grandchildren.  Robert was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.  Pallbearers will be Robert Barton, Jr., Demond Roberson, Albert Collins, Mark Mitchell, Tommy Wallace Collins, Ernest McCloud, Wallace Collins, Jr. Ill, J. D. McCloud.  Honorary pallbearers are Gregory Scarlett, Gary Morris, Everette Middleton, Jerry Don Culpepper, Judd Stewardson, Brian Reeves.

T. L. Scarborough, 88

T. L. Scarborough, age 88, of Coleman, died Wednesday, May 8, 2002 in Holiday Hill Nursing Home.  Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. today (Thursday) at Shields Cemetery with Rev. John Stanislaw officiating.  Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Mr. Scarborough was born June 13, 1913 near Shields, Texas and was a son of Jessie Aubrey Scarborough and Mary Sneed Loften Scarborough.  He grew up in the Shields and Brown Ranch communities and attended school at Brown Ranch.  On December 22, 1934, he married Winnie Lee Lane in Burkett and she preceded him in death on November 5,1994.  Mr. Scarborough lived in San Angelo for a number of years where he owned and operated Scarborough Distributing Company.  He moved to Coleman in 1995 and was a Baptist.

Survivors include one daughter, Patsy Blackwell of Bryan, Texas; one son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Faye Scarborough of Buckeye, Arizona; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.  Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Liddie B. Simmons White, 78

Liddie B. Simmons White, age 78, of Coleman, died Thursday, May 9, 2002 at Abilene Regional Medical Center.  Funeral service was held at 10:00 a. m. Saturday in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Don Northway officiating, assisted by Rev. John Kight.  Graveside services were held at 3:30 p. m. Saturday at Killeen City Cemetery in Killeen, Texas.

Liddie was born October 16, 1923 and was a daughter of William and Rosie Mae Johnson Dobbs.  She grew up in Coleman and Brownwood.  She was married to Bill Simmons and he preceded her in death.  She lived in Killeen for many years and moved to Coleman seven years ago.  She was a homemaker and a member of Bible Baptist Church in Coleman.

Survivors include three nieces, Emma Lou Brammer of Ferris, Texas, Ann Neuens of Cedar Hill, Texas and Linda Sue Thate of Coleman; one nephew, Roy Lee Thate of San Angelo; several great-nieces and great-nephews.  She was preceded in death by one sister and ten brothers.

Clyde 'Dink' Wristen, 71

Clyde ‘Dink' Wristen, age 71, of Santa Anna passed away Friday, May 10, 2002 at 6:45 a. m. at the VA hospital in Temple.  Graveside services were Monday at 11 a. m. at the Santa Anna Cemetery with Rev. Frank Taylor and Rev. Raymond Jones officiating. Interment followed under the direction of Henderson Funeral Home of Santa Anna.

Dink was born September 24, 1930 in Coleman County to the late Daniel Franklin and Ollie Lee Kelley Wristen.  He was a lifetime resident of Santa Anna where he attended the Santa Anna Schools.  As an Army veteran, Dink served his country during the Korean Conflict.  He married Marie Larson in Chicago, Illinois on February 5, 1953 and they had celebrated 49 years of marriage.  Dink was a member of the American Legion and a retired oil field pumper.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Wristen of Santa Anna; a son and daughter-in-law, Ted and Suzette Wristen of Mt. Pleasant; a sister, Nell Hipp of Santa Anna; brother, Wayne Wristen of Santa Anna; a granddaughter, Amy Wristen of Mt. Pleasant; and a grandson, Phillip Wristen of Mt. Pleasant.

Crystal (Bunnie) Gulley Baize, 39

Crystal (Bunnie) Baize died Friday, May 10, 2002, in Los Angeles, California.  A memorial service will be held at Parker Funeral Home Chapel, Baird, Texas today (Thursday, May 16) at 2 p. m., with Jack Riddlehoover officiating.  It was Crystal’s wishes that she be cremated.

Crystal was born in Abilene, Texas on April 14, 1963, on Easter Sunday, giving her the nickname of ‘Bunnie’.  She was the daughter and sister of Maynard, Judy and Chris Gulley.  Crystal lived in Breckenridge, Texas until the past few months.  She attended Baird Schools and McMurry College.  She received her LCDC license from the State of Texas and was a Drug and Alcohol Abuse Counselor.  She had worked for Serenity House in Abilene, Texas and Walker Sayles Prison Unit in Breckenridge, Texas.  She was a member of First Baptist Church, Baird, Texas.

Survivors include her parents, Maynard and Judy GuIley of Baird, Texas; a brother, Chris Gulley of Burleson, Texas; her grandfather, A.W. Gulley of Talpa, Texas; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.  Memorials may be made to the Serenity House, Abilene, Texas or West Texas Rehabilitation Center.

Rosa Lee Terrell, 93

Rosa Lee Terrell, age 93, of Santa Anna, Texas passed away Sunday, May 12, 2002 at 3:20 a. m. at the Cross Country Nursing Home in Brownwood.  Services will be Saturday at 2:00 p. m. at the First Baptist Church of Santa Anna with Rev. R.L. Brown officiating.  Interment will follow at the Santa Anna Cemetery with Henderson Funeral Home of Santa Anna in charge of arrangements.

Rosa was born on January 5,1909 in Madisonville, Texas to the late Odell and Diley Johnson Jackson.  She was raised in Madisonville where she attended the Madisonville Schools.  She married Tom William Terrell in 1930 in Coleman, Texas and they celebrated 31 years of marriage.  Tom preceded her in death in 1961.  Rosa had been a resident of Coleman County since 1925 and was a member of the Baptist Church and was a homemaker.

Survivors include four daughters, Helen Young of Santa Anna, Nancy Terrell of Brownwood, Hurlene Thomas of Coleman and Willie Reed of Pampa, Florida; four sons, Daniel Terrell of Rockdale, L. D. Terrell of Crosbyton, Roy R. Terrell of Atlanta, Georgia and lsiah Terrell of Midland; a sister, Sylvia Edwards of Santa Anna; 53 grandchildren; 83 great-grandchildren; and 21 great-great-grandchildren.  Rosa was preceded in death by two daughters, Lee Ester Stanfield and Mary Lee Mack; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.  Pallbearers will be grandsons: Gary Terrell, Phillip Terrell, W. T. Young, Chris Mack, Roy Terrell and Willie Ray Thomas.

Bill Haas, age 73, of Gouldbusk Route, Coleman, died at 9:13 p. m. Tuesday, May 14, 2002 at Coleman County Medical Center.  Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Saturday at Walker Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial will follow at Brown Ranch Cemetery, under the direction of Walker Funeral Home.

Bill Haas was born January 16, 1928 in Coleman, Texas, the son of Louis Carl Haas and Verdia Copeland Haas.  He and Gloria Bryson were married December 9, 1976 in Coleman.  A lifetime resident of Coleman County, he was a farmer and rancher and a member of the Baptist Church.  Bill was a veteran of World War II - U. S. Navy and the Korean War - U. S. Army.

Survivors include his wife, Gloria, of Coleman; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jan and Grady McRae of Houston and Raylene and Joe Plummer of Novice; a son and daughter-in-law, Louis “Bubba” and Patty Haas of Houston; three stepdaughters and a son-in-law, Shirley Bush, Malissa McClure and friend Kathy Vialpando and Jamie and Dr. Edward Tang, all of Arlington, Texas; grandchildren, Arki and Allie McRae of Houston, Lisa and husband Rudy Stawkowitz of Eldon, New York; three great-grandsons, Brandon, Mickel and Jacob and one step-granddaughter, Brittni Bush.

Cleo Vollie Peteet, 90

Mr. Cleo Vollie Peteet, age 90, of Coleman died at 10:52 am. Friday, May 17, 2002 at Coleman County Medical Center.  Masonic funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. today (Tuesday) at Walker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kermit Sorrells officiating.  Graveside services will be Wednesday in Ashland Cemetery. Walker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born January 16, 1912 in Upshur County, Texas, he was the son of Vollie B. Peteet and Florence Irby Peteet.  In 1942, he married Kathleen Miller Smith.  He was a retired oil field superintendent and had been a resident of Coleman for the past 18 years.  He was a 50-year plus member of Coleman Masonic Lodge No. 496.  Mr. Peteet was a U. S. Air Force veteran, serving in England, in World War II.  He was a member of the Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Peteet, of Coleman.

Ida May Keith, 81

Funeral services for Ida May Keith, 81, of Brownwood, were held at 3 p. m. Tuesday at Heartland Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bill Swindler officiating.  Burial was in Greenleaf Cemetery under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home.  Mrs. Keith died Saturday, May 18, 2002 at Brownwood Regional Medical Center.

She was born March 11, 1921, in Burkett to the late B. C. and Katy Key Day.  She had been a resident of Brownwood since 1942, formerly of Burkett.  She was a Baptist.

Survivors include two sons, Bill and Joann Day of Brownwood and Alvin and Cathy Keith of Bangs; two step-sons, James and Gladys Keith of Tuscola and Bobby and Joyce Keith of Dumright, Oklahoma; one daughter, Barbara and Melvin Fenton of Brownwood; three bothers, Nattie Ray Day of lzora, Edward Day of Winters and Willie Lee ~Day of Kilgore; one sister, Lorean Whorton of Lake Brownwood; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and three special nieces.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Ezra Keith; her parents; two brothers; a sister, one daughter; a step-son and two step-daughters.

Stella Bucy Tune, 80

Stella Bucy Tune, age 80, of Canton and formerly of Coleman, died Thursday, May 23, 2002 in Tyler.  Funeral services were held at 2:00 p. m. Sunday in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Randy Milam officiating.  Interment was in the Coleman City Cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Stella Bucy Tune was born September 9, 1921 in Parks, Stephens County, Texas and was a daughter of the late Seth and Dollie Mae Keith Bucy.  She grew up in Coleman and graduated from Coleman High School in 1939.  On March 2,1941, she married Sanford B. Tune in San Angelo and he preceded her in death on March 6, 1992.  She was a homemaker and lived in many different places where her husband was a Church of Christ minister, including Mertzon, Rising Star, Llano, Pecos, Abilene, Moran, Sheridan, Aldean, Kansas City, Missouri, Dearborn, Michigan, Chandler, Arizona, Paris, Arkansas, Greensboro, Indiana and Amerherst, Texas.  She moved back to Coleman in 1988 and moved to Canton several years ago to be near her children.  She was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include three daughters, Danielle Tune of Canton, Sandra Milam of Roseville, Michigan and Shannon Mintz of Canton; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; three sisters, Donna Lovina Bucy of Phoenix, Arizona, Dollie Jean Sparkman and Theda Ray Hazelwood, both of Coleman.  She was preceded in death by an infant son, Sanford B. Tune, Jr. in 1949.

Ricky Glenn Eldred, 31

Ricky Glenn Eldred, age 31, of Santa Anna died Thursday, May 23, 2002 at Coleman County Medical Center.  Graveside services were 2 p. m. Monday at Glen Cove Cemetery with Brother Paul Smith officiating.  Services were under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Ricky Glenn was born May 21, 1971 in Brownwood, a son of Ed Eldred and Sandra Kitchens Rodgers.  He was reared and attended school in Coleman.  He married Mindy Burnett in 1997 in Brownwood; they later divorced.  He worked as a roofer and was a Baptist.

Ricky Glenn is survived by his parents, Bill and Sandra Rodgers of Santa Anna, Ed and Betty Eldred of Coleman, Billy Walker of Brownwood; three brothers, Chris (and fiancee Kaylene) Eldred of Santa Anna, George (and wife Ternie) Eldred of Coleman, Scotty Kitchens of Coleman; two sisters, Salinda Eldred (and fiancee Danny Norway) of Santa Anna, Carmel Walker of Brownwood; one stepbrother, Michael (and wife Sherry) Hubach of Coleman; one step-sister, Chrissy Hubach of Winters; grandmother, Pauline Boyd of Santa Anna and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and friends.  He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Frank and Ruby Eldred, George Kitchens and one uncle, Raymond Kitchens.  Pallbearers were Thomas Floyd, Jackie Eldred, Wayne Felty, Michael Hubach, Randy Irwin, Frankie Eldred, Shane Eldred, Michael Eldred and Robert Eldred.

Hazel Marie Evans - Davis, 80

Hazel Marie Davis, age 80, of Comanche, and formerly of Santa Anna, died Thursday, May 23, 2002 at her residence.  Funeral services were held at 2 p. m. Sunday (May 26, 2002) at Nowlin Funeral Home Chapel in DeLeon with Marvin Andrews officiating.  Burial was in Garden of Memory, Comanche County.

Mrs. Davis was born January 30, 1922 in Rockwood, Texas, she was the daughter of John Evans and Ruby Post Evans.  She married Rupert Dale Davis in November 1955 and they made their home in the DeLeon area.  He preceded her in death.  Mrs. Davis was a retired ordained minister; homemaker; had resided in DeLeon over 35 years, moving there from Santa Anna, Texas.  She was a member of the Pentecostal Church of God and pastor of Full Gospel Lighthouse for 30 years.  She married Rupert Dale Davis in November 1955 in Brownwood, Texas.

Survivors include three sons, Jerry L. Cox of DeLeon; Jackie E. Cox of Nashville, Tennessee; and Robbie D. Davis of DeLeon; five grandchildren including Brenda Lee Easley and Jonie Kay Cox; and six great grandchildren, including Katie Lee Easley and Weston Luke Easley.  A local Santa Anna relative is a cousin, Mrs. Bobby Benton.  She was preceded in death by two sons, Milton Ray Cox and John Dean Cox.  Pallbearers were Eldon Easley, John Reed, Buddy Hooper, Robbie Wayne Pipkin, Glen Davis and David Moss.

Raymond Dale Cargal, 47

Raymond Dale Cargal, 47, of Tye, died Thursday, May 23, 2002 at an Abilene hospital, after a sudden illness.  Services were 2 p. m. Sunday at Bailey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Brandon Honeycutt officiating.  Burial was in the Clyde Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home.

Raymond was born May 28, 1955 in Abilene, Texas to Wallace and Bonnie Welch Cargal.  He grew up and attended Clyde schools.  He married Rebecca Hankins May 3, 2001 in Abilene.  They moved to Tye in January of 2002 from Abilene.  He was a plumber and a Baptist.

He is survived by his wife Rebecca of Tve: two sons. Christopher Cargal of Breckennidge and Eric Cargal of Abilene; one stepson, Eric Miller of Tye; one stepdaughter, Kendra Miller of Tye; four brothers, Kenneth Ray Cargal of Austin, DeWayne Cargal of Manor, Mickey Elkins and Michael Elkins, both of Granbury; two sisters, Cindy Hall of Coleman and Tammy Elkins of Granbury; and one grandchild.

Mattie May 'Jiggs' Corbell Cullers, 71

Mattie May 'Jiggs'  Corbell Cullers, died Thursday, May 23, 2002 at 7:30 a. m. in Abilene, Texas.  A memorial service was held at 10 a. m. Saturday at Elliott-Hamil Chapel of Faith in Abilene with Dr. Eddie Sharp and Dr. George Dawson officiating.

She was born May 3, 1931 in Brown County, Texas and grew up in Coleman County.  She was a Red Cross Volunteer at Dyess Air Force Base and a Hospice volunteer.  She was a member of University Church of Christ.

Survivors include her husband, Cleve Cullers; a daughter, Nancy Hemphill; granddaughters, Tamera and Caroline; son-in-law, John Hemphill; two sisters, Gladys Batson and Sally Philbrick.  She was prededed in death by her parents, Bob and Lena Corbell and a brother, Robert Elgin Corbell.  Four step-children, Cullen Cullers, Karen Fogelman, Laura Minor and Bret Cullers also survive her; as well as seven step-grandchildren.

Joe L. Hanke, Jr., 72

Joe L. Hanke, Jr., 72, of Cross Plains, Texas died Friday, May 24, 2002 at Brownwood Regional Medical Center after a lengthy battle with a neuromuscular disease.  Funeral services were 2 p. m. Monday at Higginbotham Chapel in Cross Plains with Father Lawrence Cyr officiating.  Burial was in the Burkett Cemetery with Higginbotham Funeral Home of Cross Plains in charge of the arrangements.

Born June 4, 1929 near Burkett, Texas (Coleman County), he was the son of Joe Ernest Hanke and Ruth Ada Hobbs Hanke.  He graduated from Burkett High School in 1946.  He was a veteran of the Korean War where he served in an artillery battalion from 1951-1952.  He attended GI school and took classes through the University of Texas extension system and at several nearby colleges.  He married Era Lee Ingram on July 9, 1955 in Coleman, Texas.  They had two children, John and Paula.  He resided first on a farm in the Burkett area and later moved to Cross Plains.  He served as a clerk and rural carrier in the United States Postal Service beginning in 1958 and was promoted to the position of Postmaster for Cross Plains in February of 1973.  He served as Postmaster for 16 years before retiring in 1989.  He greatly enjoyed the opportunity his position as Postmaster gave him to meet and interact with people in the Cross Plains community.  Upon retiring he intended to return to full time farming and ranching. He was a lifelong member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Coleman where he served as Lector, Eucharist Minister, and religion teacher.  He was active in the Cross Plains community, serving on the Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years and the School Board for 12 years.  He was a member of the Kiwanis Club, American Legion, Project Pride, and the National Association of Postmasters of the United States.

He is survived by his wife, Era Lee Hanke of Cross Plains; John Hanke and wife, Holly, of Oakland, California; Paula Cole and husband, Mark, of St. Louis Park, Minnesota; four grandchildren, Evan and Claire Hanke and Matthew and Kaitlin Cole; two nephews, J. C. Diehl and Jim Diehl; five nieces, Vickie Bangs, Shernie Shirkey, Sherlie West, Julie Peterson and Jackie Nieder and brother-in-law, Kermit Diehl of Butler, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Madeleine Diehl.

G. David Westfall, 65

G. David Wesffall, 65, of Dallas, passed away suddenly Saturday, May 25, 2002.  Funeral services are 10 a. m. today (Thursday) at Sparkman / Hillcrest Funeral Home Chapel, Dallas.

Born in Glen Cove, Texas in 1936, he practiced law in Dallas in general civil litigation.  He graduated from Big Spring High School in 1954.  A graduate of Texas A&M University in 1958, he attended law school at Southern Methodist University Law School.  He began the practice of law in 1963 with the firm of Bailey, Williams, Westfall, Lee and Fowler for 19 years, until establishing his solo practice in 1982.

He is survived by his wife Christina of Dallas; daughter Stefani Podvin and husband John of Dallas; son John Westfall and wife Marguerite of Fredericksburg; and four grandchildren.  He is also survived by his mother, Thelma Westfall of Abilene; a sister and her husband, Helen and Norman Langham of Garland; brother and his wife, Ronnie and Beverly Westfall of Abilene; sister, Linda Miller of Abilene and numerous nieces and nephews.

Loy Benjamin Long, 95

Services for Loy Benjamin Long, age 95 of Goldthwaite were held 2:00 p. m. Saturday, May 25, 2002 at Stacy-Wilkins Chapel with Doug Holtzclaw officiating. Burial followed in Goldthwaite Memorial Cemetery.  Mr. Long died Thursday, May 23, 2002 at Holiday Hill Nursing Home in Coleman.

He was born August 7, 1905 in Mills County, Texas to Ben and Annie Burdett Long and married Janie Ruth Ellis October 27, 1929 in Mills County.  He was a life-long resident of Mills County, a Baptist, deacon at First Baptist Church, served as mayor of Goldthwaite and also owned and operated a grocery store.

Mr. Long is survived by his wife, Ruth Long of Goldthwaite; granddaughter, Deawn Dalton and husband, Jay of Coleman; grandson, Randy Long and wife, Debra of Coleman; two great-granddaughters, Charliese Castleberry and husband, Lee of DeLeon and Jessica Long of Lubbock; two sisters, Anne Bell Padgett and Virginia Stark both of Goldthwaite; and daughter-in-law, Betty Hafner of Coleman.  He was preceded in death by one son, Bennie Bob Long.

Sammie Lee Hunt, 61

Sammie Lee Hunt, age 61, of Coleman died Monday, May 27, 2002 at Coleman County Medical Center.  Graveside services will be 11:45 a. m. Friday in Ft. Sam Houston Military Cemetery, under the direction of Walker Funeral Home of Coleman.

Mr. Hunt was born January 20, 1940 in Perry, Oklahoma, the son of Sam Hunt and Lola Dassen.  He and Bobbie Lynn Riley were married in 1960 in Denton, Texas; and later divorced.  A resident of Coleman for the past four years, he was retired from the military and was a Baptist.

Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Colette and Joe Tabor of Coleman and Debbie Kenyon of Abilene; three grandchildren, Candice Tabor and Samantha Tabor, both of Coleman and Ryan Kenyon of Abilene; and one sister, Chernie Dickson of Arkansas City, Arkansas.  Family visitation is tonight (Thursday) 7 to 8 p.m. at the Walker Funeral Home.

Lola Dodson, age 96, of Coleman, died Tuesday, May 28, 2002 at Holiday Hill Nursing Home.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a. m. today (Thursday) at First Baptist Church with Rev. John Stanislaw officiating, assisted by Rev. Gary Boyd.  Burial will follow in Coleman City Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Mrs. Dodson was born on April 30, 1906 at Talpa, Texas and was a daughter of Thomas Howard Crosby and Nora Lee Sanders Crosby.  She grew up in Coleman County and graduated from Valera High School in 1923.  On August 3, 1926 she married A. E. “Gene” Dodson in Glen Cove and he preceded her in death in 1979.  She was a homemaker and a Charter Member of the Coleman County Texas A&M Mother’s Club.  She was a member of First Baptist Church and the Lydia Sunday School Class.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Henry and Margie Dodson of Coleman; two daughters, Bobbie Dodson of Coleman and Shirley Hunter of Burkett; one brother, Glenn Crosby of Clyde; one sister, Alma Wright of Lovington, New Mexico; six grandchildren, DeAnn (and husband Larry) Nivens, Dennae (and husband John) Cyr, Lezlie (and husband Brian) Wallace, Randy (and wife Sandy) Hunter, Ken (and wife Tern) Hunter, Cole Dodson; seven great- grandchildren, Bryan and Marc Nivens, Leif Hunter, Kristin Hunter, Chase Hunter, Kailea Hunter and Rye Cyr.  She was preceded in death by a son, Howard Dodson in 1985 and a son-in-law, Bill Hunter in 1998.

Dave C. Beaver, 58

Mr. Dave C. Beaver, age 58 of Ingram and a prior resident of Houston, passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2002 in a San Antonio hospital.  Graveside services with full military honors will be held Friday, May 31st at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio at 9:30 a. m. with Chaplain Louis Parks officiating.  Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Grimes Funeral Chapels of Kerrville.

Mr. Beaver was born to Charles Henry and Vivian Beaver in Coleman, Texas on November 17, 1943.  He was a member of the United States Navy during the Vietnam era and a Computer Specialist.  He was also a member of the American Legion of Kerrville, Post 208.

He is survived by his mother, Vivian Vi Beaver of Ingram and numerous cousins.  He was preceded in death by his father.  Memorial remembrances may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Ehrler was born September 23, 1917 in Gouldbusk, Texas and was a daughter of Thomas Jefferson Pniddy and Mary Ethel Cornelius Pniddy.  She grew up in Gouldbusk and graduated from Mozelle High School.  On April 18, 1941, she married Dolph Ehrler in Coleman and he preceded her in death on July 11, 1993.  She was a nurse at the Sealy Hospital in Santa Anna and the Overall-Morris Memorial Hospital in Coleman for many years.  She was a member of Community Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Ted and Jane Ehrler and Tim and Donna Ehrler, all of Coleman; three grandchildren, Christi Ehrler and Lisa (and husband Mack) Watson, all of Coleman and Shanna (and husband Geoffrey) Hollingsworth of Pflugenville, Texas; four great-grandchildren, Brady Hunter, Seth Watson, Aaron and Haley Hollingsworth; two brothers, James Earl Priddy of Coleman and Bill Priddy of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by a grandson, Shannon D. Ehrler.

Nena Murphy, 49

Ms. Nena Murphy, age 49, of Coleman, died at 10:30 p. m. Wednesday, May 29, 2002 at Hendrick Hospital, Abilene.  Graveside services were 2 p .m. Monday at Coleman City Cemetery Pavilion, with Walker Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Born May 18, 1953 in Longview, Washington, she was the daughter of Richard Murphy and Eva Bills. She was reared in southeast Idaho and graduated from high school there.  She had been a resident of Coleman since 1979 and was a restaurant owner and operator.  She was a Baptist.

Survivors include daughters, Roseanna Perry, Rianna Noear, (La) Toya Rucker, all of Coleman and Claydine Stewart of Brownwood; sons Riginal Murphy of Coleman and Coburn Noear of Ft. Washakie, Wyoming; sister, Patty Perry of Ft. Hall, Idaho; and Dude Perry of Ft. Hall, Idaho; and six grandchildren, Marcus, Anthony, Devon, Cutter, David Jr. and Ashley.

Emma Luen Westmoreland, 78

Emma Luen Westmoreland, age 78, of Fort Worth, Texas, passed away Friday, May 31, 2002 in Harris Methodist Hospital, Ft. Worth.  Funeral services were 10:30 Monday morning at Harrell Memorial Chapel in Dublin, Texas with Rev. Brandon H. Rich officiating.  Burial was 3:30 p. m. in the Whon Cemetery under the direction of Harrell Funeral Home of Dublin.

Born January 28, 1924 in Whon, Texas, she was the daughter of Charlie Smith Bible and Anna Elizabeth Guise Bible.  She was a beautician and a member of Alta Mere Baptist Church in Fort Worth.  In August 1970, she and Joe Westmoreland were married in Glen Rose, Texas.

Survivors include her husband, Joe Westmoreland of Fort Worth; three sons John Dwain Jennings of Weatherford, Danny Ray Jennings of Paluxy and Lanny Dean Jennings of Ft. Worth; a daughter, Gina Bethlee Nemitz of Fort Worth; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one brother, E. W. Bible of Grand Prairie.
