Elva Boyle, 92

Graveside services for Elva Boyle, 92 of Brownwood (formerly of Coleman) were held at 10:30 a. m. Tuesday at the Burkett Cemetery with Rev. Benny Allcorn officiating.  Interment followed under the direction of Heratland Funeral Home.  Ms. Boyle died Friday, February 1, 2002 at a Brownwood nursing home.

She was born August 2, 1909 at Coleman.  She was a retired motel manager and a seamstress.  She had lived in Brownwood since 1970 and was a Baptist.

Joe Andy Hodges, 78

Joe A. Hodges, age 78, of Crowley died Saturday, February 2, 2002 in Alvarado.  He was a retired shipping and receiving clerk.  Graveside services were held at 10:00 a. m. Wednesday,  February 6, at D. F. W. Veterans Cemetery under the direction of Shannon North Funeral Home of Fort Worth, with Rev. Doug Estes officiating.

Mr. Hodges was born May 19, 1923 at Rockwood to Edgar and Josie Estes Hodges.  He graduated from Rockwood High School in 1941.  He attended Tarleton State College one and one-half semesters before joining the ground Air Force in 1943, during World War II.  He served a tour of duty in Japan.  After his discharge, he returned to Coleman where he lived until moving to Fort Worth in 1966.

Survivors include his wife, Rosie; daughter, Ellen Holmes, of Crowley; a son, Eddie Hodges of Mansfield; sister and brother-in-law, Jerlene Hodges and Wayne Haynes of Roanoke; grandchildren, Christina and Zachariah Holmes; and a great-grandchild, Harmonee Holmes.   Several cousins and friends also survive.

W. E. "Sleepy" Garner, 76

W. E. "Sleepy" Garner, age 76, of Brownwood, died Monday, February 4, 2002, at Brownwood Regional Hospital.  Funeral services are 10 a. m. this morning (Thursday, February 7, 2002) at Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Brownwood with Rev. Lee R. Jones officiating.  Interment will follow in Rocky Creek Cemetery.

Born June 8, 1925, in Stacy, Texas, he had been a resident of the Brownwood area for the past 36 years.  He was a fighter pilot in the Army Air Corps and was a Baptist.  He and Arliss LaVerne Crutcher were married July 22, 1944 in Glendale, Arizona.

Survivors include his wife, Arliss, of Brownwood; two daughters, Dianne Booth of Lake Brownwood and barbie Young of Brownwood; two sons, Gene Garner of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Randy Garner of Brownwood; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Lee and Mary Euna Estes Garner; and (last part not included in obituary).

Elmer L. Tomlinson, 68

Elmer L. Tomlinson, age 68 of Llano, Texas (formerly of Coleman) died Tuesday, February 5, 2002 at Llano.  Funeral services will be 2:00 p. m. today (Thursday, February 7, 2002) at Waldrope - Hatfield - Hawthorne Funeral Chapel in Llano with Rev. Richard Vandeventer officiating.  Burial will follow in the Llano City Cemetery.

He was born September 10, 1933 in Runnels County, Texas.  On September 13, 1958, he and Adalene Tischler were married in Mexico.  He was a retired bootmaker, Elmer had lived in Llano for the last 30 years, moving there from Coleman.  He owned and operated Tomlinson Boot Shop for 29 years in Llano.  He was of Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife Adalene Tomlinson, of Llano; three sisters, Nellie Simon of Mount Pleasant, Wanda Glanagan and Pauline Templin, both of Brownwood; two special friends, Opal Beyer and Kathleen Shoemake, both of Llano; numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents, J. B. and RosaLee (Felty) Tomlinson and five brothers and one sister.

Pallbearers are Tommie Tomlinson, Mike McDonald, R. L. Holtz, J. W. Holtz, Olen Holtz, and Bill Turner.  Honorary pallbearers include his many friends.  Memorials may be made to Hospice.

Vernie McMillan, 91

CLYDE:  Funeral services of r Mrs. Vernie McMillan, 91, of Clyde, formerly of Cross Plains, were at 10 a. m. Saturday at Higginbotham Chapel with Ed Hedrick officiating, assisted by Bob Pipes.  Burial was in the Cross Plains Cemetery under the direction of Higginbotham Funeral Home of Cross Plains.  Mrs. McMillan died Wednesday, February 6, 2002, in Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene.

She was born February 17, 1910 in Callahan County to Alvin Green West and Sally Clementine Jointer West.  She married Loyd Lee McMillan in Rowden on December 12, 1926.  She was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include her son, Billy C. McMillan of Lake Coleman; two daughters, Judy Smoot of Clyde and Glenda Smith of Dudly; brother, Marvin West of Lubbock; 17 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; and several great- great- grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband; and nine brothers and sisters.

Sarah L. "Sally" Walker, 64 

Mrs. Sarah L. "Sally" Walker, age 64 of Coleman passed away 6:20 p. m. Thursday, February 7, 2002, at her residence. Services were held at 2 p. m. Sunday at Walker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jeff Robinett, pastor of Shared Life Ministries officiating, assisted by the Rev. Kermit Sorrells, retired Methodist minister.  (Interment was in the Coleman City Cemetery.)

Mrs. Walker was born June 20, 1937, in Greenville, Texas to the late Timothy Douglas Reeves and Margaret Bean Reeves.  She was a graduate of McCamey High School and attended Texas Tech, Howard Payne and McMurry Universities.  She married Tom G. Walker May 26, 1957 in McCamey, Texas and came to Coleman in 1958.  Sally taught at Talpa for six years and since was co-owner and secretary/treasurer of the Tom G. Walker Funeral Home, Inc.  She was a deacon and member of the First Presbyterian Church of Coleman.

Survivors include her husband, Tom G. Walker, of Coleman; three sons and daughters-in-law, Tim and Ginger Walker of Coleman, Todd and Becky Walker of Houston and Thomas Walker of Coleman; one sister and brother-in-law, Dr. Barbara and John Moore of Golden, Colorado; two nephews, Douglas Moore of the Virgin Islands and James Moore, and one niece, Sarah. Grandchildren surviving are Justin, Wendy, Jared, Josh, Lacy, Caleb, Tyler and Tanner. 

Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Coleman.

Mary Jim Rich Paez, 87

Mary Jim Rich Paez (87) died Thursday, February 7, 2002.  She was born December 26, 1914 in Silver Valley, Texas to Finis Ewing and Fannie Mae Walker Rich and was raised in Coleman, Texas.  She began college when she was 16 years old in New Mexico and later transferred to the University of Texas at Austin.  Training as a radiological technologist and laboratory technician followed; she worked in Waco at Scott and White Hospital before moving to Austin.  While working at Bergstrom Field, she met Guillermo Paez and they were married on November 27, 1946.  After his discharge from the service, they moved to New Jersey.  In 1949 they moved back to Texas and ultimately settled in Houston where she worked for Baylor College of Medicine and later the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center as a laboratory technician.  She retired in 1977 after 26 years of service.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Guillermo Paez; son, Frederick W. Paez; and sister, Frances Rich.  She is survived by her daughter, Mary E. (Betsy) Paez of Austin; cousins Pat Egan and June London of San Antonio, Sybil Snodgrass of San Angelo, Elvis Rich of Houston, Jane Cooper of Alabama, and several nieces and nephews.  She was a long time member of Christ Church Cathedral but more recently of the Church of St. Peter (Anglican).  She was a member of UTHSC Retirees Association, American Registry of X-Ray Technicians, American Society of X-Ray Technicians, Texas Society of X-Ray Technicians, Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of the Republic of Texas, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Colonial Dames XVII Century, Daughters of the American Colonists (Treasurer), Southern Dames of America, Rich Family Association (Texas Delegate), Campbell Family Association, and the Houston Genealogical Forum.  As her favorite interest was genealogy, she enjoyed serving as Treasurer and Registrar in various organizations and had traced her Rich family line to Virginia 1730.

Visitation will be held at 1:30 p. m. Monday, February 11, 2002, at the Houston National Cemetery Chapel, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive.  Services will follow at 1:45 p. m.  Memorials may be made to the National Stroke Association, M. D. Anderson Cancer Center or the charity of your choice.

W. Roy Tisdale, 91

W. Roy Tisdale of Belton (formerly of Coleman) passed away Saturday, February 9, 2002 in Temple, Texas.  Services were held Monday, February 11, at 2 p. m. at Dossman Funeral Home Chapel in Belton with Rev. Bobby Baggett officiating.  Interment was in Bellwood Memorial Park.

Mr. Tisdale was born August 1, 1910, in Coleman, Texas and was a son of William Roy Tisdale and Ethel (Trusdale) Tisdale.  He was a 1934 graduate of Texas A&M.  He married Virginia Lanham in 1937 in Brady, Texas.  Mr. Tisdale was a veteran of World War II and served in the Philippines.  He worked for many years for the Federal Agriculture Department and was a member of the United Methodist Church in Belton.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Tisdale of Belton; two sons, Larry W. Tisdale of Muenster and Patrick R. Tisdale of Keller; one daughter, Pennie Doss of Phoenix, Arizona; a brother, Charlie Tisdale of Austin and Mary Yarbarough of Saginaw; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.  Local survivors include nephews.

Lola Bell Sanderson, 81

Lola Bell Sanderson, age 81, of Brownwood died at 1:15 a. m. Saturday (February 9, 2002) at her residence.  Funeral services were 4 p. m. Sunday at Davis Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Brownwood, with Rev. Thural Reid and Rev. James Ford officiating.  Interment was in Eastland Memorial Park, Early, Texas, under the direction of Davis-Morris Funeral Home.

Born February 7, 1921, in Indian Creek, Brown County, Texas, she had been a resident of Brownwood for the past 61 years.  She was a homemaker and a member of Southside Assembly of God.  She had taught Sunday School 35 years.  On December 24, 1939, she married James Eldon Sanderson in Haskell County.

Survivors include her husband, James Eldon Sanderson of Brownwood; four sons and daughters-in-law, Alvin J. and wife, Jackie Sanderson of Temple, Gary and wife, Terri Sanderson of Grandview, Marc and wife, Victoria Sanderson of Santa Anna and Dennis and wife, Virginia Sanderson of Brownwood; 21 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a sister, Geneva Hester of Brownwood; and a brother, Lewis Gifford of Brownwood.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Marscilla Wheeler Gifford and a brother, J. W. Gifford.

Tom Bomar, 86

Tom Bomar, age 86 of Ballinger passed away on February 9, 2002 in his home.  Funeral services will be held today (Tuesday, February 12, 2002)  at 2:00 p. m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Ballinger with burial at Talpa Cemetery under the direction of Rains-Seale Funeral Home.

He married Donnie Mae Herring on September 15, 1934 in Ballinger.  She preceded him in death in March of 1986.  Also preceding him in death were his parents, Wess and Anne Dial Bomar and a sister, Mary Irene Bomar.  Tom was a rancher in Coleman County and a #1 sheep shearer.  In 1940, he began his oil business with O. P. Leonard and worked for Guy Mabee from 1945 - 1950.  Tom was the owner of a well service business, an auto supply store and a distributor for oilfield supplies.  He ranched south of Talpa until his accident in 1995.

Survivors include two daughters, Vickie McQueen and husband Joey of Big Lake and Joyce Smith of Coleman; four sons, Rex Bomar and wife Patsy of Midland, Jimmy Bomar of Pleasanton, Pat Bomar and wife Linda of Denton and Gary Bomar and wife Marci of Abilene; one sister, Dot Schroeder of Ballinger; three brothers, James Bomar of Winters, Weldon Bomar of Cleburne and Bobby Bomar of Snyder; 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Hospice, Sheep and Goat Raisers Association or the donor's favorite charity.

Mamie Knowles Turley, 85 

Mamie Knowles Turley, age 85,  of Garland, and formerly of Coleman, died Monday, February 11, 2002 in a Garland hospital.  Funeral services will be held 2:00 p. m. Wednesday in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Charles Sheffield officiating. Burial will follow in Coleman Cemetery under the direction of  Stevens Funeral Home.

Mrs. Turley was born June 30, 1916 in Coleman, Texas and was the daughter of the late Jim Croft and Ella Loflin Croft. S he grew up and attended school in Coleman.  She lived in Odessa for several years and had resided in Garland the past 35 years.  In 1935 she married Riley Knowles and he died in 1972; she married Walter Turley in 1982 and he preceded her in death in 1997.  She was a homemaker and a Baptist.

Survivors include one son, Raymond Knowles of Garland; step-children, Betty Hunter of Coleman and Robert Knowles of Garland; one sister, Nettie McAlister of Coleman; eleven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Pinckley.

Pallbearers were Roy Knowles, Grady Boyd, Randy Thomas, Gene Converce, Durl Croft and Burl Croft.

Bertha Timmins, 91 

Bertha Timmins, age 91, of Coleman, Texas passed away Monday, February 11, 2002 at 9:40 p. m., at the Coleman Healthcare Center.  Services will be at Friday at 1:00 p. m. at the Coleman Cemetery with the Rev. John Stanislaw officiating.  Interment will follow at Coleman City Cemetery, with services under the direction of Henderson Funeral Home of Coleman.

Bertha was born July 6, 1912 in Grady County, Oklahoma to the late William Jefferson and Lillie Bell Rushing Dodson.  She was raised in Coleman County where she attended the Valera Schools.  Bertha married William G. Timmins in Ralls, Texas on January 14, 1933 and they celebrated 33 years of marriage.  William preceded her in death in 1970.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church and was a beauty operator, retiring in 1986.

Survivors include a son, Gerald Timmons of Irving, Texas; a half-sister, Doris Morgan of Fort Worth, Texas; half-brother, Grady Simpkins of Battle Creek, Michigan; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.  Bertha was preceded in death by her son, Larry Timmins.

Jerry Lynn Wells, 62 

Jerry Wells, age 62, of Brownwood, Texas passed away Monday, February 11, 2002 at Brownwood Regional Medical Center.  Graveside services will be 11 a. m. this morning (Thursday) at Trickham Cemetery, with Rev. Bruce Hess officiating.  Interment will follow under the direction of Henderson Funeral Home of Santa Anna.

Jerry was born August 20, 1939 in Dallas to the late George Allen and Josie Evelyn Harbison Wells.  He had been a resident of Brownwood since 1990 where he was a member of the Church of God.  Jerry was a retired roofer.

Survivors include two sisters, Shirley Jean Aumada of Rotan, Texas and Mary Ellen Boughton of Rockwall, Texas.  He was preceded in death by two brothers, George Russell Wells and Larry Lee Wells.

Martha Laura Lane Jackson, 93 

Martha Laura Lane Jackson, age 93, passed away Tuesday, February 12, 2002 at 4:30 a.m. at Holiday Hill Nursing Home in Coleman.  Services will be today (Thursday) at 2:00 p. m. at Elm Street Church of Christ with Joe Hailey and Donald Ross Williams officiating.  Interment will follow at the Coleman City Cemetery, with Henderson Funeral Home of Coleman in charge of arrangements.

Martha Laura Lane was born July 19, 1908 in Falls County to the late Walter Scott and Elizabeth Jane Rice Lane.  She attended school at Starkweather and Hardin in Coleman County and graduated from Temple High School.  She married Sherman Fredrick Jackson in Gouldbusk, Texas on December 19, 1925, and they celebrated 58 years of marriage.  Fred preceded her in death in 1983.  She was a lifetime resident of Coleman County and a member of Elm Street Church of Christ.  Martha was a homemaker and seamstress.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Iris Jo and James Chenault of Sweeney, Texas and Karen and Cecil Drake of Abilene, Texas; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by a daughter, Martha Sue Jackson in 1937; two sons, Kenneth Ray Jackson in 1935 and Fred Lane Jackson in 1996; and a grandson, Fred Lane Jackson in 1989.

Will Schulle, 80

Will Schulle, age 80 of Brownwood, passed away on Tuesday, February 12, 2002 at 1:13 p. m. at his residence.  Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p. m. today (Thursday) at the Lake Brownwood United Methodist Church with Bill Reed and Richard Hetzel officiating.  Interment will follow in the Santa Anna Cemetery under the directlion of Davis-Morris Funeral Home.

He was born at Fisk in Coleman County, Texas December 14, 1921 to Phillip Fritz and Una LaRoe Atkins Schulle.  He married Betty Lou Bledsoe in Abilene on December 20, 1986.  He was a member of Lake Brownwood United Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge.  He was a retired dairy truck driver and was in the U. S. Amy/Air Force.  He had lived in Brownwood for the past twelve years.

Mr. Schulle is survived by his wife, Betty of Brownwood; daughter and son-in-law, Marjorie and Phillip Landrum of Duncan, Oklahoma; granddaughter, Lisa Landrum of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; grandson, Shawn and wife Marilyn Landrum of Sherman, Texas; step-daughter and husband, Sharon and John Reeves of Irving, Texas and their sons, Jeremy and Brenden Reeves; stepdaughter and husband, Claire and Jay Smith of Garland, Texas and their children, Melissa, James and Matthew; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Edith Kuwaski of Tahoka, Freda and husband J. D. Howard of Lampasas and Evelyn Studdard of Lampasas; three brothers, Pete and wife Mary Schulle of Brownwood, Glen and wife Nadelle Schulle of Coleman and Jimmy and wife Charlene Schulle of Bangs; sister-in-law, Sandra Davis and brother-in-law, Edward Neal; several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Schulle was preceded in death by one son, Jackson Phillip Schulle; his parents; two sisters, Mildred Davis of Santa Anna and Velma Lee Neal of Choctaw, Oklahoma; and one brother, Leroy Schulle of Levelland, Texas.

Mary Gladys Pope

Mary Gladys Pope of Corpus Christi died on Tuesday, February 12, 2002 in Corpus Christi.  Private family graveside services were held Wednesday at the Santa Anna Cemetery with Henderson Funeral Home of Santa Anna in charge of local arrangements.

She was born in Taylor County to the late Fletcher and Mabel Burk Pope.  Mary was reared in Sant Anna where she graduated from Santa Anna High School in 1935.  She continued her education, receiving a Bachelors Degree from Daniel Baker College in Brownwood and a Masters Degree from the University of Houston.  Mary taught school with Santa Anna ISD for ten years and continued teaching with the Corpus Christi ISD for 40 years.  She was a resident of Corpus Christi for 50 years where she was a member and past president of the Rebecca Lodge and also a member of the Methodist Church.

Survivors include two sisters, Billie Parks of San Angelo and Marjorie Brewer of Brownwood; and several nieces and nephews.

Simona Dela Rosa, 84

Simona Dela Rosa, age 84 of Coleman died Wednesday, February 13, 2002 at Coleman County Medical Center.  Funeral Mass was 1:00 p. m. Saturday (February 16, 2002) at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Lawrence Cyr officiating.  Burial followed in the Coleman Cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Mrs. Dela Rosa was born February 18, 1917 in Austin (Texas) and was the daughter of Benito and Lupe Casarez Martinez.  She moved to Coleman in 1925 and attended school in Burkett.  On July 9, 1934 she married Nolberto Dela Rosa in Coleman.  She was a housewife, a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Guadalupe Society and Crusillista.

Survivors include her husband, Nolberto Dela Rosa of Coleman; two sons, Robert (and wife Lupe) Dela Rosa, Sr. of Coleman and Arthur (and wife Melissa) Dela Rosa, Sr. of Conover, Ohio; three daughters, Lupe (and husband Rey) Luna of Coleman, Virginia (and husband Robert) Villegas of Coleman and Isabel Garcia of Abilene; 29 grandchildren; 67 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Marjorie Wheeler, 50

Marjorie Wheeler, age 50,of Coleman passed away Wednesday, February 13, 2002, at 2:15 a. m. at her residence.  Memorial services were Wednesday at 2 p. m. at the Northside Baptist Church in Santa Anna with Rev. Marvin Hale officiating.  Private interment followed at the Santa Anna Cemetery under the direction of Henderson Funeral Home of Santa Anna.

Marjorie was born October 31, 1951 in Torrence, California to the late Albert and Lee South Brashear.  She graduated from the John Glenn High School in Norwark, California.  She had been a resident of Coleman County since 1993 where she was a dietician with Ranger Park Inn Nursing Home.  Marjorie was a member of the Baptist Church.

Lloyd Moseley, 93

Lloyd Moseley, 93, a longtime Rochelle rancher died Wednesday afternoon, February 13, 2002, in San Angelo, following complications created by an accident that occurred at his home early Tuesday.  Funeral services were 11:00 a. m. Saturday at Leatherwood Memorial Chapels, Brady, Texas with Reverend Sheldon Johson officiating.  Burial followed in the Rochelle Cemetery.

Born Jaruary 26, 1909 in Rochelle, Texas, he was  a son of Richard Samuel Moseley and Della (McCall) Moseley.  On August 27, 1936, he and Margaret Baker were married in San Saba, Texas.  He was a lifelong resident of the Rochelle area and was a rancher. 

Survivors include two sons, Richard Moseley and wife Donna of Amarillo, Texas and John Marshall Moseley and wife Brenda of Topeka. Kansas; a sister, Sue Nell Mann of Coleman; grandchildren, Deana Gehring and Alison Gregg, both of Houston, Adrianne Shaw of Fairfax, Virginia and Mark Moseley of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and great-grandchildren Jennifer Shaw, Justin Shaw, Caroline Gehring, Casey Lloyd Gregg.  He was preceded in death by his parents, spouse and two sisters.  Pallbears were Kyle Moseley, Tom Gehring, S. H. Gainer, Chris Gregg, Mark Moseley and Jack Shaw.

Julian Whitley, 74

Mr. Julian Whitley, age 74, passed away at his residence early Monday morning, February 18, 2002, in Brownwood, Texas.  Services will be held Wednesday at 10:00 a. m. at graveside in the Santa Anna Cemetery with interment to follow.  Davis-Moms Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.  Family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p. m. Tuesday at the Davis-Morris Funeral Home.

Julian was born in Santa Anna, Texas July 6,1927. He was a retired Captain with the Texas Department of Public Safety. He toured from the Midland office of the D. P. S. after serving over 30 years with the D. P. S.  After retiring from the D. P. S., he was a stock farmer in Coleman County.  Julian lived in Midland a number of years while with the D. P. S.  He had lived in Brownwood the past 15 years.

Survivors include son and daughter-in-law Terry and Patricia Whitley of Houston; daughter, Kathy Whitley of Dallas; Grandson and wife, Jason and Veronica Whitley of Newhall, California; mother, Faye Whitley of Brownwood.  He was preceded in death by his father, Marvin Whitley.

Violet Parish Peterman Carlson, 68

FORT WORTH: Violet Parish Peterman Carlson, age 88 of Fort Worth passed away Friday, February 15, 2002 in a Fort Worth hospital.  Funeral services were held at 11 a. m. Tuesday, February 19, at Fossil Creek Community Church.  Burial was in Mount Olivet Cemetery, under the direction of Shannon North Funeral Chapel, Fort Worth.

A former resident of Coleman, she attended school here in the 1950’s.  She was a member of the Fossil Creek Community Church for over 30 years.  She was preceded in death by her first husband, Gordon L. Peterman; her parents, Preston and Lillian Parish; and her son-in-law, Joseph Williford.  Memorials may be made to the Fossil Creek Community Church building fund.

Survivors include her husband of 3 ½ years, Leonard Carlson of Fort Worth;  four daughters, Peggy Williford of Fort Worth, Patti Blaeser of Aledo, Penny Bollinger of St. Louis, Missouri, Pamela Schumacher of Minneapolis, Minnesota; two brothers, Royce Parish of Duncanville and John Parish of Fort Worth; 11 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Myrl Shields, 72

Myrl Shields, age 72, of Brownwood died Sturday afternoon, February 16, 2002 at  Brownwood Regional Medical Center.  Funeral services were 2:00 p. m. Monday in Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel, Brownwood, with Pastors Lew Sharp and Tommy Brisco officiating.  Interment followed in the Santa Anna Cemetery.

Born July 11, 1929, in Whon, Texas, he was the son of Fred and Maud French Shields.  He married Milred Maud Brisco in Hobbs, New Mexico on December 8, 1953.  A resident of Brownwood for 31 years, he was a retired oil field driller and a member of the Assembly of God Church.  He served in the U. S. Army three years in Alaska.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred Shields of Brownwood; a daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and George Agan of Brownwood; three sons and daughters-in-law, Ricky Jean and Toni Shields of Snyder, Larry Ray and Debra Shields of Brownwood and Glen (Cotton) and Belinda Minica of Brownwood; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, Leo and Louise Shields of Santa Anna; three sisters, Edith Gilbert of San Angelo, Leona and Mark Frazee of Burns Flat, Oklahoma and Evelyn Tylene Wright of Fort Worth.  He was preceded in death by two infant daughters, and infant son; his parents, Fred and Maude French Shields; three brothers and a sister.

Annie Mae (Mrs. Arch) Huddle, 97

Mrs. Arch (Annie Mae) Huddle, age 97 of Coleman died at 5:15 a. m. Sunday, February 17, 2002 at Coleman County Medical Center.  Funeral services will be 2:00 p. m. Wednesday at Walker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jeff Moore, retired minister, officiating.  Burial will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery, under the direction of Walker Funeral Home.

Born April 27, 1904 in Old Silver Valley, she was the daughter of Bland Smith and Jimmie Dunn Smith.  On June 16, 1935, she married Arch Huddle in Coleman.  He prededed her in death in 1990.  A lifetime resident of Coleman County, she graduated from Coleman High School.  She was a housewife, seamstress and a Baptist.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert Glenn and Pamela Huddle of Coleman and Arch D. and Doris Huddle, Jr. of Rosenberg; grandchildren - Terry Lynn Massey of West Alexander, Ohio, Darlene Huddle and Bobby and Cheryl Huddle, all of Coleman; two great-grandchildren, Chase and Shay Huddle of Coleman; and three sisters, Mrs. Bertie Wood of San Angelo, Mrs. Lillian Sharp of Fort Worth and Mrs. Tony Calk of California.

Bonnie Triplitt

Funeral services for Bonnie Triplitt, 96, of Brownwood were held at 10 a. m. Friday in Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dr. Gary Torian officiating.  Interment followed in Greenleaf Cemetery, under the direction of Davis-Morris Funeral Home.  Mrs. Triplitt died Sunday, February 17, 2002 in a Brownwood nursing home.

She was born October 25, 1905 in Cross Cut to Walter and Nile Jo DeBusk Prater.  She married Tinney Thomas Triplitt in Coleman on December 12, 1927.  She was a homemaker and a member of Central United Methodist Church.  She was also a long time member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Brownwood Regional Medical Center and a member of the Brownwood Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years.  She had lived in Brown County since 1942 and in Brownwood since 1975.

Survivors include her brother, John Ernest Prater of Brownwood; brother and sister-in-law, Herman D. and Geneva Prater of Brownwood; sister-in-law, Lora Triplitt of Waco; and a number of nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Tinney T. Triplitt in 1975; her parents; sister, Nona Biehl; and four brothers, Leonard, Vernon, Herschel and Rowe Prater.

Bill Ransberger, 76

SWEETWATER:  Bill Ransberger, 76, died Tuesday, February 19, 2002 at a San Angelo hospital.  Services were 2 p. m. Friday at McCoy Chapel of Memories with Rev. Chaplain Paul Ransberger and Rev. Timothy Rickman officiating.  Burial followed in the Sweetwater Cemetery, with Masonic graveside and military graveside rites rendered.

Mr. Ransberger was born May 3, 1925 in Coleman.  He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy, serving in WWII.  He married Doris Christine Huey on October 10, 1946, in Talpa.  He retired from Santa Fe Railroad, where he worked for 39 years, as an engineer and had lived in Sweetwater since 1950.  He was a member of the Sweetwater Lions Club, Sweetwater Masonic Lodge No. 571 and was a 32nd Degree Mason and was a lifetime member of the Sweetwater Jaycees, where he was instrumental in starting the Jaycees’ World’s Largest Rattlesnake Roundup in Sweetwater.

Mr. Ransberger is survived by his wife, Doris Ransberger, of Sweetwater; two sons, Billy Ransberger and Paul Ransberger, both of Sweetwater; two daughters, Linda Geron of Sweetwater and Joni Anders of Houston; a sister, Frances McGahey; a brother, Barney Ransberger of Coleman; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Laverne Sitterson, 76

Funeral services for Laverne Sitterson, age 76, of Brownwood, were 2 p. m. Thursday at the Southside Baptist Church with Revs. Alan Wallace and Jerry Evans officiating.  Interment was in the Eastlawn Memorial Park, under the direction of Davis-Morris Funeral Home.  Mrs. Sitterson passed away at her residence on Tuesday, February 19, 2002.

She was born November 27, 1925, in Wingate, Texas.  She married James Sitterson on December 1, 1942, in Santa Anna, where the couple lived until 1952 when they moved to Brownwood.  She was retired from the Brownwood Independent School District.  She was a member of Woodland Heights Baptist Church where she worked with the baby department, taught Vacation Bible School and was a Sunday school teacher.  She also sang in the adult choir and served on various church committees.

Survivors include her husband, James Sitterson of Brownwood; a daughter, Sandra Evans of Brownwood; her niece/daughter, Sherry Graham of Plano; two grandsons, Branon Lee Evans and wife Amber, and their son Dawson Lee of Brownwood; and Haydan Alan Evans and wife Alexa of Jasper; a brother, Alton Ray Bishop and wife Merle of Kingsland; sister-in-law Joyce Bishop of Brownwood; numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by son Ronnie Wayne Sitterson; her parents, James Meda and Lola Lee Lane Bishop; a sister, Mary Jo Kelly; and a brother, Oral.

Mrs. Thomas M. (Ruby F.) Hays, 80

Mrs. Thomas M. (Ruby F.) Hays, age 80, of Santa Anna passed away Wednesday, February 20, 2002 at 3:30 p. m. at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene.  Services were 11:00 a. m. Monday at Trickham Union Church with Rev. Rebecca Emery officiating.  Interment followed in the Santa Anna Cemetery, under the direction of Henderson Funeral Home of Santa Anna.

Ruby was born May 19, 1921 in Statesville, North Carolina to the late Arthur Cowan and Sadie V. Norris Eidson.  She was raised in Norfolk, Virginia where she graduated from high school and then attended the Powes Modeling School and Nursing School.  Ruby married Thomas Myron Hays, Jr. in Norfolk, Virginia on September 14, 1974 and they had celebrated 27 years of marriage.  She had been a resident of Santa Anna since 1974 where she was a member of the First United Methodist Church.  Ruby was a retired nurse.

Survivors include her husband, Thomas Myron Hays, Jr. of Santa Anna; three daughters, Suzanna Parker of Manhattan, Kansas, Teresa Baker of Gainesville, and Kathy Jo Sciferth of Chattanooga, Tennessee; two sons, Thomas M. Hays, III of Austin and Gary Knapp of Norfolk, Virginia; a sister, Alice Wilhide of Fredrick, Maryland and 10 grandchildren.  Pallbearers were Dwan Cozart, Lee Emery, David Key, Felton Martin, Clint McEwin and Carlos Torres.

Ruby Pritchard Box, 89

Ruby Pritchard Box, age 89, of Santa Anna passed away Wednesday, February 20, 2002 at 12:30 a. m. at the Cross Country Healthcare Center in Brownwood.  Services were Saturday at 2:00 p. m. at the First Christian Church of Santa Anna with Rev. John Stanislaw officiating.  Interment followed at the Santa Anna Cemetery under the direction of Henderson Funeral Home of Santa Anna.

Ruby was born on March 17, 1912 in Santa Anna to the late Walter E. and Dora Pearl Riggs Vanderford.  She was a lifetime resident of Coleman County where she attended the Santa Anna Schools.  She continued her education receiving her LVN certificate.  Ruby married William A. (Bill) Pritchard on March 16, 1928 in Eastland.  Bill preceded her in death in 1962.  She later married Miller H. Box on January 20, 1970 in Santa Anna and Miller preceded her in death in 1977.  Ruby was a member of the First Christian Church of Santa Anna and a retired nurse.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Larry Titsworth of Coleman; two sons and daughters-in-law, Don and Martha Pritchard of Santa Anna and Robert and Margaret Pritchard of Brownwood; a sister, Beulah (Boots) Aldridge of Santa Anna; a son-in-law, Henry Turner of Abilene; 10 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and one great great-granddaughter.  Ruby was preceded in death by her daughter, Gene Turner, in 1997 and by her granddaughter, Glenda Reid in 1985.  Pallbearers were Michael Andreda, Terry Lishka, Bobbie Pritchard, Jacob Pritchard, Mike Pritchard and Robbie Pritchard.

Jane Griffis Hineman, 65

Memorial services were Friday in Austin for Jane Griffis Hineman, 65, a Coleman native and daughter of the late Maxie and E. R. “Bill” Griffis.  She died Wednesday, February 20, 2002, after battling leukemia for the past 18 months.  Arrangements were under the direction of Beck Funeral Home, Round Rock/Austin.

Jane graduated from Coleman High School in 1954 and was class Valedictorian.  She was a talented musician and played the organ at First Methodist and Presbyterian churches in Coleman.  She was accompanist for the Coleman Lions Club where her father was a member.  She graduated from Southwestern University in Georgetown and taught school in San Angelo before moving with her husband to Austin in 1967.

She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Bruce, and two children, Jennifer Hineman of Los Angeles, California and John and his wife Kimberly and two children, Zachary and Dylan of Sutherland Springs, Texas.

Marlin W. Smith, 73

Marlin W. Smith, age 73, died at 12:30 p.m. on February 20, 2002 at Casper Medical Center, Casper, Wyoming.  A memorial service was held Saturday, February 23, 2002 in Casper, Wyoming.

Born February 29, 1928, he attended school in Coleman, the University of San Angelo, also the University of Wyoming.  He was a member of Wyoming Football.  He worked as a highway patrolman for many years, also worked for various oil field companies.  He was a member of Highland Park Church.  He was married to Molly Heidinger.

He is survived by his wife; three sons and one daughter, Steve and Mike Smith of Casper, Wyoming and Shane Smith of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Molly George of Casper, Wyoming; six grandchildren; two sisters and one brother, Eva Farmer of Austin and Nina Aydelotte and Mickey Smith (Kenneth J.) of Coleman; numerous nieces and nephews; two aunts, Ila Sorrells and DeLinda Smith and many friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.

Virginia Hudson (Mrs. James W.) Mullins, 81

Mrs. James W. (Virginia Hudson) Mullins, age 81, of Novice, died at 11:30 p .m. Thursday, February 21, 2002 at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene.  Funeral services were 2 p. m. Sunday at Walker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kermit Sorrells, retired Methodist minister, officiating.  Burial was in Rough Creek Cemetery, under the direction of Walker Funeral Home.

Born March 23, 1920 two miles east of Novice, she was the daughter of Frank Hudson and Maude Elizabeth McFarland Hudson.  On November 8, 1941, she and James W. Mullins, were married in Lubbock.  He preceded her in death in 1986.  A lifetime resident of Coleman County, she graduated from Texas Tech in 1941.  She taught school many years at Novice and was an elementary principal.  She was a member of Epsilon Sigma and Delta Kappa Gamma Society, both International Associations of Texas Professional Educators.  She was a member of the Coleman CowBelles, the S.W. Cattle Raisers Assoc. and the Novice Methodist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Gina McCutchen of Bronte and Melissa Floyd of Kyle; a son, Jim Mullins of Novice; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.  A sister, daughter and great-granddaughter preceded her in death.  Pallbearers were Bobby Corder, Bob Stephens, Todd Rabon, Malt Motley, Ricky Mendoza and Bobby Baird.  Memorials may be made to the Novice public school system.

Ruby Leona Waters, 88

MORAN: Ruby Leona Waters, 88, died Thursday, February 21, 2002 at Chisholm House Assisted Living.  Graveside services were 10 a. m. Monday at the Albany Cemetery with Rev. David Mallory officiating.  Burial followed under the direction of Morehart Mortuary.

Ruby Leona McCain was born April 21, 1913 in Santa Anna, Texas to Walter and Grade Dean McCain.  She married Olland Eldon Waters July 17, 1931 in Albany.  He died July 9,1995.  Mrs. Waters was a member of the First Christian Church.

She is survived by two sons, Ray Waters of Odessa and Glenn Waters of Halls Head, Western Australia; five daughters, Frances McAfee of Moran, Freda Deloach and Gracie Martin, both of Danbury, Mary Pioterek of Alvin and Barbara Griffin of Angleton; three sisters, Frankie Evans of Bakersfield, California, Leona Lightfoot of Highland and Emma Sue Stacy of Abilene; a brother, David McCain of Barstow, California; 23 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter; two sisters; a granddaughter and a grandson.  Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association and may be left at Morehart Mortuary.

Billie Bailey Middlebrook, 90

WINTERS:  Billie Bailey Middlebrook, 90, died Thursday, February 21, 2002, at Abilene Regional Medical Center.  Services were 10:30 a. m. Saturday in First United Methodist Church with Rev. Truett Kuenstler and Rev. Georgia Orr officiating.  Burial was in Lakeview Cemetery, directed by Winters Funeral Home.

She was born June 10, 1912 in Trickham and married Martin Middlebrook October 20, 1932 in Abilene.  He preceded her in death.  Mrs. Middlebrook taught school and worked for Winn’s Variety Store until her retirement.  She was a member of First United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of the Literary and Service Club.

She is survived by a daughter, Marthiel Russell of Winters; a sister, Emily Parks of Winters; a sister-in-law; two grandchildren; and five greatgrandchildren.

W. A. Kelley, 87

Services for the Reverend W.”Bill” Kelley, 87, were Saturday, February 23, 2002 at Ford Chapel of the First Baptist Church in Longview with the Reverends Ted White and Scott Dickerson officiating.  The Reverend KelIey willed his body to science through the University of Texas Southwest Medical School.

Mr. KeIIey was born December 3, 1914 in Leaday, Texas.  He died Thursday, February 21, 2002 after a brief illness.  He was a resident of Longview for the past 20 years after retiring as a Baptist minister.  He graduated from Howard Payne University in Brownwood and from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth.  During his ministry of more than 60 years, he pastored churches in Naples, Bullard, Kilgore and others in Texas.  He was a member of the Good News Class at First Baptist Church and had been active in Gregg Baptist Association and other organizations.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Rosalee, three daughters and sons-in-law, Sue and Doyel Hall of Gilmer, Nancy and Eddie Ray of Longview and Pam and Guy Sackett of Porter; one son and daughter-in-law, Truman and Nancy KeIIey of Pipe Creek; three brothers, George of San Antonio, Kenneth of Uvalde and Winford of Spicewood, two sisters, Etta Lee Shell of Kerrville and Belle Stone of Weatherford; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and a number of other relatives and friends.

Edwin Glenn Hart, 68

WINTERS:  Edwin Glenn Hart, 68, a 1950 graduate of Novice High School and a lifelong resident of Winters, died Friday, February 22, 2002 at Abilene Regional Medical Center.  Services were 2:30 p. m. Tuesday in the Winters Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Barry Taylor officiating.  Burial was in Lakeview Cemetery in Winters, directed by Winters Funeral Home.

He was born March 3, 1933 in Fort Worth and moved to Winters as an infant.  He married Nancy Ann Young on June 3, 1967, in Winters.  Mr. Hart worked at Dry Manufacturing as a troubleshooter and was a member of First Baptist Church.  He was prededed in death by this wife in 1996.

Survivors include one son, Wesley Glenn Hart and wife Meredith of Georgetown; one daughter, Ann Hart and Keith Fowler of San Angelo; and one grandson, Payton Glenn Hart of Georgetown.

Anthony Thibodeaux, 84, died Saturday, February 23, 2002 at an Abilene nursing center.  Services will be 10 a. m. today (Tuesday) at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Faith, 5701 Hwy. 277 South, Abilene, with Richard McKelvain and Jack Cox officiating.  A graveside service will be held at 11 a. m. Wednesday in Istre Cemetery, Crowley, Louisiana, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Homes.

Rev. Thibodeaux was born October 27, 1917 in Rayne, Louisiana.  He served 50 years as a minister of the Independent Christian Church, retiring in 1991.  He served in many churches in different states during those years, including 13 years in Santa Anna and three years at Abilene Christian Church, formerly Southwest Park Christian Church.  He was a member of the Ministerial Alliance in each city where he served as minister.  In 1968, he was listed in “Who’s Who in Texas Today.”

Survivors include his wife, Lillian Romero Thibodeaux of the home; a son, Henry Allen Thibodeaux of Abilene; two daughters, Gail Hooman of Dallas and Cheryl Dean Weinald of Abilene; a sister, Emily Hanks of Houston; and six grandchildren.  Memorials may be made to Abilene Christian Church, 1702 Woodard, Abilene, Texas 79605 or Hendrick Hospice Care, 1241 N. 19th, Abilene, Texas 79601.

Ann Corbin Considine, 81

Ann Corbin Considine, 81, of Abilene, died Saturday, February 23, 2002 at an Abilene medical center.  A memorial service will be held at 2 p. m. today (Tuesday) at the Church of the Heavenly Rest in Abilene with Rev. Scott Mayer, Rev. Rosemary Thomas, Rev. Harland “Steve” Birdwell and Rev. Carole Ricketts officiating, under the direction of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory, Abilene.  A celebration of Ann’s life will follow at 4:00 p. m. at the home of daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Mike Carrington, 4041 Stratford Street, Abilene.

Mrs. Considine was born February 24, 1920 in Trinidad, Colorado.  She graduated in 1940 from the University of Missouri at Kansas City, Missouri, with a BA in English Language and Literature.  She married James L. Considine, Jr. on August 25, 1940 and she was a homemaker as well as being active outside of the home.  Ann and her husband lived in Midland from 1964 to 1979 and during that time she was an Assistant Director at the Tape Lending Library for the Visually Handicapped.  They moved to Sweetwater and lived there from 1980 to 1984 and she was the Director of Volunteers at Rolling Plains Hospital.  They moved to Lake Coleman and lived there until 1994 and then moved to Abilene.  She was a communicant member of St. Marks and a lifelong Episcopalian.

Survivors include her husband, Rev. James L. Considine, Jr. of Abilene; two daughters, Lynn Cobb of Crawfordville, Florida and Jan Carrington of Abilene; three sons, Corby Considine of Midland, Laird Considine of Terlingua, Texas and Charles Considine of Pflugerville, Texas; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to any Episcopal Church, Sears Heritage Place, 1250 EN 10th, Abilene, Texas 79601; the Lake Coleman Volunteer Fire Department, Rt. 1, Coleman, Texas 76834; or to the charity of choice.

Mrs. Ethel Sims, 97

Mrs. Ethel Sims, age 97 of Cross Plains, died Sunday, February 24, 2002 in the Brownwood Regional Medical Center in Brownwood, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p. m. today (Tuesday) at the Higginbotham Chapel with John Swift officiating.  Burial will be in the Coleman Cemetery with Higginbotham Funeral Home of Cross Plains in charge of arrangements.

Ethel was born January 9, 1905 in Llano, Texas to James R. Starnater and Lena G. Billings Starnater.  She married Clyde D. Sims on June 12, 1929.  She was a member of the Presbyterian Church.  Ethel came to Cross Plains in 1925 and worked as a secretary for a lawyer for four years.  In 1937 she went to work at Citizens State Bank and worked there until she retired in 1976.

She is survived by her sister, Velma Mae Winchester of Andrews; one nephew and three nieces.  She was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.  Memorials may be made to the West Texas Rehabilitation Center, 4601 Hartford Street, Abilene, Texas 79605-9989, in memory of Ethel Sims.

O. B. Switzer, 85

Mr. O. B. Switzer, age 85, of Cross Plains, Texas, died Sunday, February 24, 2002, in Brownwood Regional Medical Center.  Funeral services were 2:00 p. m. Wednesday at Higginbotham Chapel with Mike Redd, assisted by Bob Pipes officiating.  Burial followed in the Cross Plains Cemetery with Higginbotham Funeral Home of Cross Plains in charge of arrangements.

Oscar “O. B.” Switzer was born August 11, 1916 in Comanche County, Texas to Samuel Oscar Switzer and Ida Hornsby Switzer.  He married Pauline Coffey in Gouldbusk, Texas on September 21, 1940.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Cross Plains.

He is survived by his wife, Pauline Switzer of Cross Plains; two sons, Lonnie and wife, Martha Switzer of Cross Plains and James and wife, Sylvia Switzer of Cross Plains; six grandchildren, Brenda and husband, Henry Peters; David and Brenda Switzer; Bryan and wife Tracy Switzer; Kevin and wife, Kelli Switzer; Cory Switzer, all of Cross Plains; Clay Richardson of Albuquerque, New Mexico; six great-grandchildren, Benji and wife, Lanna Switzer of Stephenville, John Peters of Stephenville, David, Kim, Chad and Sterling of Cross Plains.  He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

Clara James, 90

BANGS:  Funeral services for Clara James, age 90, of Bangs were held at 11 a. m. Wednesday at the Bangs First Baptist Church with Dr. Lee Evans officiating.  Interment was in the Trickham Cemetery, under the direction of Davis-Morris Funeral Home.  Mrs. James died Monday, February 25, 2002, in a Fort Worth hospital.

She was born April 19, 1911, in Colorado City to James and Cleopatra Cook James.  She was a homemaker and school bus driver for the Santa Anna School System.  She married Eugene James on August 15, 1934.  She was a member of the Bangs First Baptist Church.  She had lived in Trickham for more than 50 years before moving to Bangs.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Clayburn and Mildred James of Fort Worth, Grady and Scottie James of Fort Worth and Stanley and Lytha James of Kingsland; daughter and son-in-law, Sherill and Tommie McIlvain of Bangs; 12 grandchildren, Leslie, Renee, Steve, Rhonda, Mike, Karen, Keith, Jeff, Sophie, Sterling, Corey and Carissa, 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Molly Carruth of Escalon, California and Polly Ennis of Escalon, California.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene James, in January of 1984; her parents; seven brothers; and three sisters.

Mrs. Marshall (Wanda) Wallace, 87

Mrs. Marshall (Wanda) Wallace, age 87, of Coleman passed away Tuesday, February 26, 2002 at 7:35 a. m. at Holiday Hill Nursing Home in Coleman.  Services will be Thursday, February 28 at 2:00 p. m. at Henderson Funeral Home Chapel with Sam Wilson officiating.  Interment will follow at the Santa Anna Cemetery under the direction of Henderson Funeral Home of Coleman.

Wanda was born November 10, 1914 in Tolar, Hood County, Texas to the late Thomas J. and Roxie Davis.  She was raised in Tolar where she attended and graduated from the Tolar schools.  Wanda married Marshall Austin Wallace on July 27, 1935 in Santa Anna and they celebrated sixty-six years of marriage.  Marshall preceded her in death in 2001.  Wanda had been a resident of Coleman County since 1935 and was a member of the Hillcrest Church of Christ.  Until retirement Wanda worked with her husband in custom harvesting.

Survivors include a nephew, Harold Davis of Snyder, Texas; four nieces - Delores Tankersley of Eastland, Texas, Grovena Fry of Tolar, Texas, Dorthy Ann Davis and Bille Burke Davis both of Houston, Texas; and a local great niece - Peggy Burdick of Coleman, Texas.

Corine Benge Eubank, 73 

Corine Benge Eubank, age 73, of Santa Anna passed away Tuesday, February 26, 2002 at 10:26 a. m. at Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo.  Services will be Thursday (February 28, 2002) at 10:30 a. m. at the Elm Street Church of Christ with Paul Shero officiating.  Interment will follow at the Santa Anna Cemetery under the direction of Henderson Funeral Home of Santa Anna. 

Corine was born in Millersview, Texas on August 3, 1928 to the late Charles Jack and Alta Josephine Cheatham Benge.  Corine was a lifetime resident of Santa Anna and graduated from Santa Anna High School in 1945.  She was a member of the Church of Christ and a retired florist.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Norma Jo and Eddie Jones of Santa Anna, Texas, Jana Kay and Lynn Taylor of Snyder, Texas, a son and daughter-in-law, James Richard and Peggy Eubank, Jr. of Christoval, Texas; a sister, Lanita Bozeman of Houston, Texas; two brothers, Charles Benge of Lubbock, Texas, Alton (Buddy) Benge of Brownwood, Texas; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

U. W. "Johnny" Johnson, 90

U. W. "Johnny" Johnson, age 90, of Coleman, passed away at 2:15 p. m. Tuesday, February 26, 2002 at Coleman County Medical Center.  A memorial service will be 2:30 p. m. today (Thursday) at First United Methodist Church of Coleman with Dr. Dean Coultas, pastor, officiating.  Burial will be in the Talpa Cemetery, directed by Walker Funeral Home.

Born January 23, 1912 in Anderson County, Texas, he was the son of Russell Johnson and Debbie Kelley.  On November 6, 1932, he and Forrest E. Parker were married in Coleman.  Mr. Johnson lived for many years in Odessa where he was a sales manager for Merchants.  He served in the U. S. Air Force during World War II, was a member and Past Master of Coleman Masonic Lodge No. 496, was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of York Rite and Heart of Texas Shrine.  He was also a member of First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Forrest Johnson of Coleman; a son, John, and daughter-in-law; one sister, Jessie Lee Brewer of Coleman; two brothers, Kelley of Albuquerque, and Hubert of San Angelo.  One brother prededed him in death.

Biller Wilder, 77 

Mr. Billie Wilder, age 77 of Coleman passed away Wednesday, February 27, 2002, 2:30 p. m. at a local nursing facility.  Graveside services were held Friday, March 1st, 1:30 p. m. at the Coleman City Cemetery with the Rev. Kermit Sorrells, retired Methodist minister officiating.  Services were under the direction of Walker Funeral Home.

Mr. Wilder was born January 6, 1925, in Coleman, a son of Charlie and Maggie Green Wilder.  He was a graduate of Coleman High School, a member of First Baptist Church in Coleman, was retired from the oil and gas business and had lived in Coleman County all his life.

Survivors include sister-in-law, Geraldine Wilder of Coleman; extended family, Robert and Dorothy Mitchell of Abilene and Rosemary and James Henderson of North Richland Hills.

Ruth Simpson, 82

Ruth Simpson, age 82, of Brownwood and formerly of Coleman, died Wednesday, February 27, 2002 at Brownwood Regional Medical Center.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Friday in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial will follow in Coleman Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Mrs. Simpson was born December 24, 1919 in Comanche County, Texas and was the daughter of Ernest Eldred and Willie Phillips Eldred.  She grew up in Coleman and attended school here.  She had been employed as a cook in area nursing homes and moved to Brownwood two years ago.  She was Pentecostal.

Survivors include two daughters, Ruby McCullough of Brownwood and JoAnn Simpson of Bangs; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by three brothers, three sisters and one granddaughter.

Eulala Estelle Pricer, 90

Eulala Estelle Anderson Pricer, age 90, of Lubbock and formerly of Coleman, died Wednesday, February 27, 2002 at a Lubbock Hospital.  Funeral services will be 11:00 a. m. Saturday, March 2, 2002, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial will follow in the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Abilene, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Mrs. Pricer was born May 17, 1911 in Shields, Texas, a daughter of George Washington and Mary Lizzie Gregory Anderson.  She married Henry Grady Pricer on April 7, 1935 in Fisk, Texas.  He preceded her in death on June 17, 1971.  She traveled with her husband for many years before moving back to Coleman in 1971 from El Paso.  In 1992, she moved to Lubbock to be near her son.  She worked as a cook in the Coleman Schools and Holiday Hill Nursing Home and did private sitting for ladies.  She was an active member of the Elm Street Church of Christ and Hillcrest Church of Christ in Coleman and Greenlawn Church of Christ in Lubbock.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Foy and Beth Pricer of Lubbock; one brother, Spuriell Anderson of Santa Anna; four sisters-in-law, Juanita Anderson, Mamie Pricer, Nell Hart all of Coleman, Jewell Anderson of Santa Anna; two brothers-in-law, Luke Pricer of Abilene; John Pricer of Coleman; three grandchildren, Delynn Ellison of Idalo, Texas, Austin Pricer and Michelle Price both of Lubbock and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  Mrs. Pricer was preceded in death by her parents, husband, seven brothers and three sisters.

Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a. m. Saturday, March 2, 2002 at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to the West Texas Rehabilitation Center in Abilene.

Mrs. Glenn (Bennie) Bryan, 87

WINTERS:  Mrs. Glenn (Bennie) Bryan, 87, of Winters, died Thursday, February 28, 2002 in Abilene Regional Medical Center.  Services were 2:00 p. m. Saturday in the North Main Church of Christ in Winters with Mike Baskett and Buster Hukel officiating.  Gurial was in Wilmeth Cemetery, directed by Winters Funeral Home.

She was born December 13, 1914 in Coleman County and moved to Norton as a young girl.  She married Glenn Bryan on December 12, 1930 in Norton.  She was a homemaker and a member of the Old Norton Church of Christ.

Survivors are her husband, Glenn Bryan of Winters; two sons and a daughter, Sealy Bryan of Winters, Clifton Bryan of Athens and Volene Vogler of Abilene; 12 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
