Ted Boss, age 74, of Allen, Texas, died Tuesday, January 1, 2002 in Bonham, Texas.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Saturday (January 5, 2002) at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jeff Robinett officiating.  Interment at Coleman Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Ted Boss was born September 9, 1927 in Wheaton, Illinois and was the son of Theodore Nelson Boss, Sr. and Bernece Watson Boss.  He grew up and attended school in Glen Ellen, Illinois.  He served in the U. S. Army Band during World War II.  On August 15, 1953 he married Wanda Lou Watson in Abilene and she preceded him in death on February 24, 2001.  He lived in Abilene until 1968 where he worked in sales for KRBC.  He lived in Germany from 1968 - 1978; El Paso from 1978 - 1992; Cloudcroft, New Mexico from 1992 - 2001, and moved to Allen, Texas in 2001.  He was in insurance sales.  He was a member of the Christian Church.

Survivors include two sons, Greg (and wife Lyn) Boss of Allen, Texas and Tim Boss of Dallas, Texas; one daughter, Melissa Boss of Austin, Texas; three granddaughters, Nicol Medina, Deborah Boss, Sabrina Boss; two grandsons, Eddie Melton and Michael Melton; two great-grandchildren, Madelyn Medina and Morgan Grace Medina; one sister, Shirley Harrison of Anacortes, Washington.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or any hospice organization.

David E. Hunter, age 70, of Abilene (formerly of Santa Anna) died Tuesday, January 1, 2002.  Services were 10 a. m. Friday in Elliott-Hamil Chapel of Faith, Abilene with Rev. Gayle Martin and Rev. Bob Green officiating.  Burial followed in Elmwood Memorial Park.

Mr. Hunter was born in Santa Anna on July 21, 1931 to the late Arch and Ora Hunter, who were part owners of Hunter's Grocery.  He was a 1950 graduate of Santa Anna High School.  He married Fay Evelyn Dunn (who also attended school in Santa Anna) in Brownwood on July 10, 1950.  he retired from Reed Tool Company in 1989 as district manager after 25 years of service.  Mr. Hunter was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Joyce Cash.

Survivors include his wife, Fay Hunter; two sons, David M. Hunter and Arlee D. Hunter, both of Abilene; two daughters, Deborah Hunter Gunn of Coppell and Kathy Hunter Altman of Eula; two brothers, Archie Hunter, Jr. of Corpus Christi and Harper Hunter of Dallas; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Louise E. Howell, age 73, of Baxter, Missouri died Wednesday, January 2, 2002.  Funeral service was 2 p. m. Monday at Stanley and Son Funeral Home of Pleasant Hill, with Pastor Randy Johnson officiating.  Burial was at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Born March 23, 1928 in Coleman, Texas, she was a daughter of Robert Ell Wright and Rosie Pearl Estes Wright.  IN 1943, she and Dean E. Howell were married in Coleman.  He preceded her in death on March 10, 2000.  She moved from Coleman to Kansas City in 1943 and to Atlanta, Georgia in 1986.  She worked for Avon for 30 years prior to her retirement in 1993.  She was a member of First Baptist Church in Kimberling City.

Survivors include a son, Robert Dean Howell of Kimberling City, Missouri; two daughters, Brenda Louise Fisher of Irvine, California and Patricia Randazzo of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; a brother, Curley Wright of Coleman; a sister, Merle Green of Lima, Ohio; granddaughter, AnJanette R. Pickett and two great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by two brothers, Darryl J. Wright and Robert Wayne Wright.

Pallbearers were Armand Elms, Julian Bren, Harold Elms, Harold Bafford, Robert Howell and Bobby Rupe.

NORTH RICHLAND HILL, TEXAS:  Ted Wayne Jarvis, age 38, general manager for Carmax, passed away January 2, 2002 at an area hospital.  Funeral services were 10 a. m. Monday at Glenview Baptist Church in Haltom City, under the direction of Forest Ridge Funeral Home of Hurst.  Graveside services were 3:30 p. m. at the Valera Cemetery with Rev. Loyd Hopper officiating.  Local services were under the direction of Walker Funeral Home.

Ted Wayne Jarvis was born August 11, 1963 in Kingport, Tennessee.

Survivors include his wife, Jayme Jarvis; sons, Joshua White and Ted Wayne Jarvis, Jr.; daughters Kala Jarvis and Dawn Jarvis; parents, Ethel Margaret Jarvis and Donald Jarvis; sister, Darlene Granson; grandmother Lena Sims; granddaughter Zara Kay Hooper; and several nephews, a niece, aunts and uncles.

Jesse 'Joe' Phillips, age 94, of Van Alstyne, Texas, formerly of Santa Anna passed away Friday, January 4, 2002 at 2:15 a. m. at the Wilson N. Jones Medical Center in Sherman, Texas.  Services were Monday at 11:00 a. m. at Northside Church of Christ in Santa Anna with Kenneth Avaritt officiating.  Interment followed at the Cleveland Cemetery, under the direction of Henderson Funeral Home of Santa Anna.

He was born Jesse Angus Phillips on October 3, 1907 in Santa Anna to the late James Alexander and Nina McCloud Phillips.  Jesse was reared in Santa Anna where he attended the Santa Anna schools.  He married Shirley Ellene Blanton in Santa Anna on September 21, 1935 and they celebrated 54 years of marriage.  Shirley preceded him in death in 1989.  He resided in Pecos from 1948 until 1961 when he moved to Taylor.  he later moved to Santa Anna and in 1999 became a resident of Van Alstyne.  Jesse was a member of the Church of Christ and was a residential carpenter until his retirement in 1982.

Survivors include two daughters, Jo Ann Meyer of Taylor, Texas and Judith E. Kondrat of Van Alstyne, Texas; a son, Jerry D. Phillips of Santa Anna, five great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his sister, a brother and one grandson.

Charles H. Allen of Coleman, died Sunday (January 6, 2002) at Brownwood Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Wednesday (January 9, 2002) at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. G. Dean Coultas officiating and assisted by Rev. Arthur Allen. Burial with military honors will follow at Santa Anna Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Mr. Allen was born November 30, 1918 in Wright, New York and was a son of Hiram J. Allen and Jennie A. Pike Allen. He grew up and attended school in Delmar, New York. While stationed at Camp Bowie, Texas, he married Allene Talley in Santa Anna, Texas on November 26, 1943. He served in the U. S. Army, 210th Armored Division, in the European Theatre of Operations and was a participant in D-Day. Following his time in service, he lived in Delmar, New York until moving to Coleman, Texas in 1980. He worked as a truck driver for Mueller for several years and was a Methodist. He was a life-time member of the Elsmere, New York fire department.

Survivors include his wife, Allene Allen of Coleman, Texas; one son, Rev. Arthur (and wife Chris) Allen of Blooming Grove, Texas; one daughter, Charlene Bullock of Coleman, Texas; four grandchildren, S/Sgt. Patrick (and wife Beckie) Allen of Twenty Nine Palms, California, Angel (and husband S/Sgt. Timothy) Carson of Abilene, Texas, Monica (and husband Shane) Freels of Dallas, Texas and B. J. Bullock of Coleman, Texas; six great-grandchildren, Kyle, Cody, Kaitlyn, Kevin, Trenton and Isabella; one brother, Bill Roney of Cobleskill, New York; two sisters, Ethel Fisher of Cobleskill, New York and Ruby Scheffel of Albany, New York.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p. m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer's Foundation. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Richard Charles Allen in 1970; one brother and one sister.

Joe C. Golson, age 67, of Coleman, died Tuesday, January 8, 2002 at Holiday Hill Nursing Home.  Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p. m. Friday (January 11, 2002) in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Paul Smith officiating.  Burial will follow at Burkett Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Joe C. Golson was born February 18, 1934 in Coleman and was a son of Wade and Joanna Walker Golson.  He grew up in Burkett and Novice and graduated from Novice High School.  On May 23, 1952 he married Hope Fuller in Novice and she preceded him in death on May 19, 1995.  He lived at Burkett for many years where he farmed and ranched and operated a dairy.  He also worked for 22 years for Champlain Petroleum Company as a pumper.

Survivors include two sons, Tim (and wife Suzanne) Golson of Coleman and Tony (and wife Susan) Golson of Midland, Texas; one foster son, Charles Frierson of Spring, Texas; two brothers, Pete Golson of Rankin and Roy Golson of San Antonio; one sister, Beth Kleiber of Burkett, Texas; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by two daughters, Tammy Golson in 1962, Tamarah Joanna Hope Golson in 1994; one son, Tracy Guy Golson in 1996 and one brother, James L. Golson in 2001.

Grace Larson, age 80, of Coleman died Tuesday January 8, 2002, at Coleman Healthcare Center.  Funeral services will be held 4:00 p. m. Friday (January 11, 2002) at St. Mark's Episcopal Church with The Reverend Joan Rudolph officiating. Burial will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Mrs. Larson was born August 7, 1921 in Pleasanton, Texas, a daughter of John T. and Bessie Hunt Williamson.  She was reared and attended school in Coleman.  She married Jean Doyle Larson on August 18, 1943 in New York City.  She was an office manager for Allen & Allen Insurance Company for 35 years and was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church. 

She is survived by her husband, Jean Larson of Coleman; one son, Jan Larson of Coleman; one sister, Martha Pooler of San Antonio; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one niece; three nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.

Mrs. Verlin Colvin Arrowood, 92, of Cross Plains, died Tuesday, January 8, 2002 in Songbird Lodge in Brownwood.  Funeral services will be 2:00 p. m. today (Thursday) at Higginbotham Chapel with Bob Pipes officiating, assisted by John Swift.  Burial will be in the Cross Plains Cemetery with Higginbotham Funeral Home of Cross Plains in charge of arrangements.

Verlin was born October 7, 1909 in Burkett, Texas to Tom Colvin and Lizzie Kline.  She married Roy Arrowood in Burkett, Texas on September 8, 1927.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Arrowood and a sister Ada Colvin Wilder.  After her husband's death in 1970 she continued to operate the oil production company they formed in the early 1940's.  Mrs. Arrowood was an accomplished artist and enjoyed collecting antiques.  She was an active member of the Cross Plains Church of Christ.

She is survived by her daughter, Roylene Arrowood Wilson of Cross Plains; grandsons, Donald Leslie Wilson of Baird, Richard Neal Wilson of Ruidoso, New Mexico, and James Roy Wilson of Cross Plains; and a great-granddaughter, Allison Wilson.

Leon McMillan, age 83, of Brady, Texas died Tuesday, January 8, 2002 at San Antonio, Texas.  Funeral services will be 2:30 p. m. January 14, at Fort Sam Houston Cemetery in San Antonio.

He was born September 27, 1918 in Concho County, Texas, a son of Joseph and Annie Laura (Brandstetter) McMillan.  On May 21, 1945, he and Mickey Long were married in Brady.  He was a farmer/rancher and a World War II Air Force veteran (1st Lt. pilot).

Survivors include his wife, Mickey, of Brady; four sisters, Dorothy Benham of Pipe Creek, Roasalie Baker of Burleson, Rita Fay Goodman of Abilene and Edith Blackwell of Ballinger; and a very large number of nieces, nephews, great- nieces and great- nephews.  His parents, and nine brothers: Clinton, Leverett, Lester, Arlie and Oles McMillan, and Ted, Gaines, Ovonuel and Leland Baker, all preceded him in death.

The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p. m. tonight (Thursday) at Heritage Funeral Home, 300 N. Bridge, Brady, Texas.

Henry Wesley Crutchfield, 82, of Abilene, died Tuesday, January 8, 2002 at an Abilene medical center.  Graveside services were 2 p. m. Friday in Pioneer Cemetery near Cross Plains, with Rev. Jimmy Griffith officiating, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home of Abilene.

Mr. Crutchfield was born December 15, 1919 in Callahan County.  He was a farmer before moving from Anson to Abilene in 1953.  He worked for Abilene Brick Company for 30 years before his retirement.  On August 9, 1946, he and Frances Larkin were married in Eastland.  Mr. Crutchfield was a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, Frances Crutchfield of Abilene; a daughter, Betty Irvin of Noodle; three brothers, Gib Shoemaker of Coleman, Horace Crutchfield of Cisco and Tom Crutchfield of Abilene; two sisters, Mattie Spalding of Brownwood and Jessie Chick of Texarkana; three grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and eight great- grandchildren.

Charles G. Jetton, age 75, of Center Point, Texas passed away Wednesday January 9, 2002, at a Kerrville hospital.  Graveside services will be at 1 p. m. Saturday at Center Point Cemetery, with Rev. Mac McKinney Officiating.  Grimes Funeral Chapels of Kerrville is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Jetton was born January 10, 1926 in Center Point, Texas, to the late Norman Jetton and Jamesina Coleman Jetton.  He married Linda Johannsen on June 28, 1982, in Las Vegas, Nevada.  He served in the United States Merchant Marines, 1st Armored Division, in World War II and the Korean War.  He was a member of the Center Point United Methodist Church.  Mr. Jetton was a coach in the Coleman Schools from 1949 to 1960, with the exception of 1952.  As head coach, his teams won Bi-District in 1956 and 1960.

Survivors are his wife, Linda Jetton of Center Point; two daughters, Lisa Jetton Skidmore of Austin and Aaron Johannsen of Atlanta, Georgia; two sons, Joel Johannsen and Mark Johannsen, both of Delphi, Indiana and two grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by a son, Charles J. Jetton in 1974.

Wanda Tompkins Lee, age 74, of Brownwood passed away Wednesday January 9, 2002 at Brownwood Regional Medical Center.  Funeral services were 2 p. m. Saturday in Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Gary Torian officiating.  Interment followed in Rocky Creek Cemetery.

A longtime resident of Brownwood, she was born on January 9, 1927 in Thrifty.  She married Kenneth Lee in Brownwood on December 2, 1942.  He preceded her in death in 1994.  She was a homemaker and member of Central United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her sons, Blaine Lee and his wife Nelda of Dallas and David Lee of Garland; grandson, Jeffery Lee and his wife Jill of McKinney; granddaughter Shawna Lee of Midland; great-granddaughter Brooke Lee of Midland and a great-grandson Griffin Lee of McKinney; a sister, Ann Elizabeth Pitts and husband Everett S. of Brownwood; nephews Gerald Pitts of San Antonio; Robert Pitts of Grapevine and Michael Pitts of Brownwood.

Rev. Geneva P. Kilgore, age 76, of Fort Worth died Thursday, January 10, 2002 at Community Hospice of Texas in Burleson, Texas.  Funeral services were 2:00 p. m. Saturday, January 12, 2002 at the Church of the Nazarene with Rev. George Frasier officiating.  Burial followed in the Talpa Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Rev. Kilgore was born August 1, 1925 in Coleman County, a daughter of Robert Carr and Tempest Lula Peek Hinds.  She was reared in Coleman County and attended schools in Coleman and graduated from Centennial High School.  She married Howard Kilgore from Talpa on January 5, 1947 in Coleman.  She worked for the Civil Service as a clerk for the post office for 13 years and was a minister with the Church of the Nazarene for 26 years, serving in churches in Victoria, Hedley, Brady, Buffalo Gap, San Angelo Northside and Weatherford.

Survivors include her husband, Howard Kilgore of Fort Worth; one daughter, Paula Burch of Arlington; two sons, Robert (Bob) Kilgore of Grand Prairie, and Ellis Kilgore of Arlington; one sister, Glenda Klassen of Fort Davis, Texas; one brother, Carroll Hinds (and wife Addie) of Glen Cove; five grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends, including long-time friend Leta Mae Williams of Arlington.  Rev. Kilgore was preceded in death by her parents.

Mrs. Reta Jones, age 90, of Coleman died at 4 a. m. Friday, January 11, 2002 at Coleman County Medical Center. Services were 2:00 p. m. Saturday (January 12, 2002) at Walker Funeral Home Chapel with Roy Buse of Santa Anna officiating.  Burial followed in the Brown Ranch Cemetery, under the direction of Walker Funeral Home.

Born November 22, 1911 in Coleman County, Texas, she was the daughter of Richard O. Throgmorton and Dollie Mills Throgmorton.  On December 22, 1931, she and H. T. Morgan were married in Coleman.  He preceded her in death in 1983.  She married Charlie Jones in Coleman on April 2, 1984 and he preceded her in death in 1989.  A  lifetime resident of Coleman County, she was a housewife and member of the Hillcrest Church of Christ.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and Vernon Roberts of Coleman; a son and daughter-in-law, Dean and Mary Morgan of White Chapel; a brother, Otis Throgmorton of Mozelle; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Mary Dell Beck Browning, 89, of Ballinger, went home to her Lord and Savior on Friday, January 11, 2002.  Services were 2 p. m. Sunday at the Seventh Street Baptist Church in Ballinger with Rev. Tony King officiating.  Interment followed at Valera Cemetery with Rains-Seale Funeral Home of Ballinger in charge of arrangements.

Mary was born February 8, 1912, in Albertville, Alabama, to Elijah Ward and Mary Eppie Harper Beck.  At the age of five, she and her family moved from Alabama to Ellis County, Texas.  Mary married Loyd Ellis Browning on March 1, 1932 in Ennis, Texas.  She was preceded in death by her husband and a son, Raymond.  Mary will always be remembered with love and affection by all those who knew her.  Her kindness, her genuine love for others and her constant striving to do something for others endeared her to everyone she met.  She was a skilled seamstress, quilt maker, and consummate homemaker.  She was noted for her chocolate cakes, her sewing of Barbie doll clothes, and her special care and understanding of children.

Mary is survived by one sister-in-law, Ercel Beck of Waxahachie; five children and their spouses, Chris and Wallace Brimer of Abilene, Janie and Jim Barnes of Brownwood, and Helen and J. B. Nunn, Harold and Kay Browning, and Evanet and Gary Gallant, all of Ballinger.  She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were grandsons and granddaughters, Allan Brimer, Mark Nunn, Patrick Browning, Kyle Nunn, Gary Browning, Jodi Jarvis, Brett Avants, Brad Avants, Amy Gallant, Nathan Gallant, Brian Ruppert, Amanda Barnes, Lance Gallant, Doug Ruppert, and Stephanie Barnes.

Martha Jo Griffis, age 72, of Coleman, died at noon on Saturday, January 12, 2002 at her residence.  Funeral services were held at 2:00 p. m. Monday (January 14, 2002) at First Christian Church with Rev. Jeff Robinett, pastor of United Christian / Presbyterian Church officiating.  Burial followed in the Coleman Cemetery, under the direction of Walker Funeral Home.

Born September 7, 1929, in Ector County, Texas, she was the daughter of Joe Dobson and Ila May Dillard.  She was a rancher, feed store owner and an appliance store owner.  She had been a resident of Coleman County since 1945 and was an Elder of First Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Connie and Jim Whitney of Andrews; three granddaughters, Sujo McKee, Ricka McKee and Christi Whitney; one grandson, Trent Whitney; and one great-granddaughter, Heather Whitney.

Judith L. Young, age 58, of Brownwood, died at 5:30 a. m. Saturday, January 12, 2002 at Brownwood hospital.  Funeral services were at 1:00 p. m. Monday (January 14, 2002) at the Coleman City Cemetery Pavilion with Rev. Bill Roberts of North Coleman Baptist Church officiating.  Burial followed under the direction of Walker Funeral Home.

Born December 11, 1943 in Oklahoma, she was the daughter of Stanley Asberry Bates and Ruby Pauline Hamiton.  She had been a resident of Coleman since 1992 and was manager of Food Plaza in Brownwood.  She was a Baptist.

Survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth Garcia of Fort Worth; four sons, Bo Young of Coleman, Michael Young of Fort Worth, Howard Young of Dallas and Jimmy Young of Junction City, Arkansas; two sisters, Billy Jo Bates of Odessa and Carolyn Owens of Junction City, Arkansas; one brother, William Bates of Utah; and 13 grandchildren.

Roger Wayne Curty, Sr., age 59, of Lake Brownwood died Saturday, January 12, 2002 at Brownwood Regional Medical Center.  Graveside services, with military honors, will be held today (Tuesday) at 2 p. m. at the Valera Cemetery in Valera, Texas with Pastor Charles Grossman officiating, directed by Heartland Funeral Home of Early.

Mr. Curty was born in Farmington, Iowa to Frank and Fawn Curty.  On January 14, 1969, he married Betty Ann Monroe in Belton, Texas.  He was a retired Staff Sergeant for the Texas Army National Guard and had served on three tours of duty in Vietnam.  He had also spent the last few years as a truck driver.  Mr. Curty had been a resident of Lake Brownwood since 1992 and was formerly of Florida.  He was a Baptist and a member of Heartland Church in Brownwood.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Ann Curty of Lake Brownwood; one son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Candy Curty of Lake Brownwood; one daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Joe Rudd of Brownwood; his mother, Fawn Curty of Maryland; two brothers, Ron Curty of Milledgeville, Georgia and David Curty of Gainsville, Florida; a sister, Joanna Laslo of Maryland; and three grandsons, Joseph Rudd, Mathew Rudd and Cody Curty.  He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Mason Curty, Sr. and a brother, Frank Mason Curty, Jr.

BROWNWOOD:  Tommie Dale Nickerson, age 51, died Saturday, January 12, 2002 at Brownwood Regional Medical Center.  Services were 11 a. m. Saturday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Eddy Hays officiating.  Interment followed in Greenleaf Cemetery, under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home.

She was born September 7, 1950 in Lubbock to the late Charlie and Lola Green Nickerson.  She worked as a nurses’ aide and was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.  She was a lifelong resident of Brownwood.

Survivors include two sons, Darrell Glen Martin of Brownwood and J. C. Nickerson, William Lee Nickerson and Lloyd Nickerson, all of Brownwood, Ronnie Nickerson and Charles Nickerson, both of Coleman, Raymond Nickerson and Marshall Junior Nickerson, both of Lubbock and Joe Nickerson and Troy Nickerson, both of Dallas; three sisters, Josephine Osburn of Dallas, and Linda Nickerson and Mary Nickerson, both of Brownwood; and 10 grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by a brother, Alan Nickerson.

BANGS:  Funeral service for Roy W. Martin, 50, of Bangs were held at 3 p. m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church of Bangs with Dr. Lee Evans, assisted by Rev. Jimmy Allen.  Interment followed in the Bangs Cemetery, under the direction of Davis-Morris Funeral Home.  Mr. Martin died Sunday, January 13, 2002 in Brownwood.

He was born December 30, 1951, in Brownwood.  He was the owner of Martin Construction for the last 19 years and was employed by Santa Fe Railroad for 11 years prior.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bangs and also served as a deacon of the church.  Mr. Martin had lived in the area all of his life.  On August 18, 1973, he and Becky Hubbard were married in Coleman.

Survivors include his wife, two sons, Cody W. Martin and wife Niki; and Kurt Martin and wife Chama; daughter Kristi Martin; two grandsons, Coltin Martin and Eric Shine; one brother, Bobby Martin of Early; four sisters, Darlene Hanley and husband Troy of Bangs, Betty Robertson and husband Bill of Weatherford, Billie Jennings and husband Dub of Kingsland and Sonda Bell and husband Wayne of Teague; one aunt, one uncle and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorials may be made to Cook Children's Hospital in Fort Worth or the charity of the donor's choice.

Mary Ellen McCullough, age 89 of San Angelo, Texas, former of Coleman passed away at 3:00 a. m. January 14, 2002 in the San Angelo Nursing Home.  Services will be at 2:00 p. m. Wednesday, January 16, 2002 at the Walker Funeral Home Chapel in Coleman with Donald Williams officiating.  Interment will be at the Coleman City Cemetery, under the direction of Walker Funeral Home.

Mary Ellen was born October 25, 1912 in Fisher County, Texas.  She was married to Raleigh McCullough on May 12, 1936, who preceded her in death in 1983.  Her father was Virgil Gordon and mother was Frances Altizer.  Mary Ellen lived in Coleman most of her life and was co-owner in White's Auto Store in Coleman with her husband.  She was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include: Daughter and son-in-law, Georgene and Randall Saverance of San Angelo; son and daughter-in-law Gordon and Debby McCullough of San Marcos; 2 sisters, Jo Littleton of Coleman and Johney Dell Williams of Abilene.  3 grandchildren, Denise Grant of Colleyville, Devin Saverance of San Angelo and Emille Saverance of San Angelo.  4 great-grandchildren.  Memorials can be made to Hospice and West Texas Rehab Center.

 Visitation will be Tuesday (January 15, 2002) from 6:00 p. m. to 7:00 p. m.

Charles L. Longueil, age 80, of Granbury died Monday evening, January 14, 2002 at Trinity Mission of Granbury.  Funeral services were held at 2:00 p. m. Wednesday (January 16, 2002) at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jeff Robinett officiating.  Burial followed in Coleman Cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Mr. Longueil was born November 12, 1921 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and was the son of Clarence Ellis Longueil and Marion Virginia Rohrbacher Longueil.  He grew up in Pennsylvania and graduated from college in California.  He served as a fighter pilot during World War II and achieved the rank of captain.  In 1946, he married Helen June Duncan in Shreveport, Louisiana and she preceded him in death on January 13, 1993.  He lived in Downey, California from 1959 - 1983, moving to Colleyville, Texas where he lived until moving to Granbury two years ago.  He was an aerospace engineer and a member of the American Psychological Association.  He was a member of the Episcopal church.

Survivors include sisters-in-law, LaVeta Curry of Dallas, Texas, Freeda Kilgore of Granbury, Texas, Margie Duncan of Coleman and Dixie Duncan of Zachary, Louisiana; three nieces and six nephews.  Pallbearers were Bob Farley, Mike Bailey, Dick Powell, Bobby Duncan, Mark Gordon and Sam Curry.

Nelda Irene House, age 77 of Coleman formerly of Atascosa, Texas passed away in Abilene Tuesday, January 15, 2002.  Services were held at Mission Park Funeral Home in San Antonio, January 18, 2002.  Burial followed in Fort Sam Houston Cemetery.

Mrs. House was born April 12, 1924 in Moulton, Texas.  She married Marvin J. House January 13, 1942.

Survivors include her husband, Marvin House, Sr.; three sons, Marvin J. House, Jr. of Henderson, Nevada, Ron House of Atascosa and Johnny House of Ballinger; two daughters, Peggy Brame of Coleman and Debbie Bacon of Cross Plains; seven grandchildren, Scott Brame, Jennifer Brame, Rainey Bacon, Shasta Bacon, Jason Bacon, Nathan House and Rhiannan House.  Two great-grandchildren, Avery House and Tyler Brame also survive.

Mrs. Lennie Clarice Day West, age 98 of Santa Anna, Texas passed away at 9:35 a. m., January 16, 2002 at Leisure Lodge.  Services will be held on Friday January 18, 2002 at 10:00 a. m. in the Walker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Paul Smith officiating.  Interment will be at the Coleman Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Home of Coleman.

Mrs. West was born December 24, 1903 in Edinburg, Mississippi.  She was married to Enoch Day in 1921, and he preceded her in death in 1991 and married Roy West and he had preceded her in death.  Her father was Leroy Mayfield Reis and mother Hannah Moore.  She was a housewife, a life long resident of Coleman, and a Baptist.

Survivors include three daughters; Waudene Green of Rising Star, Texas, Bertrude Bronner of Odessa, Texas, Carol Mitchell of Abilene, Texas; one son, Sammy Day of Abilene, Texas; 18 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 2 great- great- grandchildren; 1 great- great- great- grandchild; 3 great- great- great- great- grandchildren.  Grandchildren will be pallbearers.

Billie "B. C." Howard, age 66 of Coleman died Wednesday, January 16, 2002 at his residence at 11:20 p. m.  Services were held Saturday 10:30 a. m. at Coleman City Cemetery Pavilion.  Interment followed in Coleman City Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Home

Mr. Howard was born November 11, 1935 in Graford, Texas to Walton Mitchell Howard and Florence Arlene Johnson.  He married Pennie Wilbur in Rockwall, Texas, December 18, 1986.  He was a retired fireman after serving for twenty - nine years with Dallas Fire Department and was a Baptist.

Survivors include wife, Pennie Howard of Coleman; three sons, Leland Howard of Cooper, Texas, Randy Howard and David Howard both of Dallas; brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Teresa Howard of Graford; and sister-in-law, Sara Lee Petty of Westbrook.  Five grandchildren also survive.

Lowell Odell Phillips, age 76 passed away January 16, 2002 at Charlton Methodist Hospital in Dallas.  Services were held Saturday, January 19, 2002 at Pleasant Terrace Baptist Church in Dallas with interment in Grove Hill Memorial Park. 

Odell was born April 22, 1925 in Coleman County, Texas to Lee Elmer and Maymie Harrell Phillips.  He later moved to Hunt County, Texas where he graduated from Quinlan High School in 1942.  He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II where he was awarded various medals of honor.  In July 1950, Odell married Martha Irene Stiles of Santa Anna and moved his family to Dallas in 1956 where he spent the remainder of his years.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years; one son, Lowell Elmer Phillips of Dallas; five daughters and sons-in-law, Sue Stiles, Martha and Danny Nuckols, Elizabeth and Ronald Storey, Sally Davis and Jon Cooper and Patricia and Billy Beard all of the Dallas area; siblings, Lee and Nina Phillips of Bedford, Harold and Katie Philips of Coleman, Fred and Jean Phillips of Houston, Ruth Wade of Gainesville and Bobby Joe and Martha Phillips of Odessa.  Nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.  He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Elva Marie Phillips.

 Memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation.

Gene Malone; age 61, of Brownwood and formerly of Coleman, died Friday morning, January 18, 2002, at a Brownwood nursing home following a lengthy illness.  Funeral services were 2 p. m. Monday at Heartland Funeral Home Chapel with Father Russell Fisher of St. John’s Episcopal Church officiating.  Burial followed in the Coleman Cemetery.

Mrs. Malone was born January 19, 1941 in Coleman, the daughter of the late Troy and Geraldine Brooks.  She graduated from Coleman High School and later from the Coleman Hospital LVN School.  She worked as a nurse for many years, serving as Director of Nurses of Leisure Lodge Nursing Home and also worked at Holiday Hill and Coleman County Medical Center.  She also worked at the Shannon Medical Clinic in Coleman.  She later worked in Brownwood at Care, Inc. and Cross Country Care Center.  She served in the U. S. Navy for four years and was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Coleman.  She married Garner Malone in 1974 in Coleman.  He preceded her in death.  She had been a resident of Brownwood for the past two years living most of her life in Coleman.  She also had formerly lived in San Angelo for 10 years.

Survivors include a special companion - Kenneth Bryan of Santa Anna; two sons and daughters-in-law, Joe Howard and Tina Barkemeyer of Fort Worth and Randy Dale and Tammie Barkemeyer of Brownwood; two daughters and sons-in-laws, Judy Faye and Luther Heath of Abilene and Rhonda Gail and Eddie Thompkins of Brownwood; a brother and sister-in-law, Rex Nolan and Jamie Brooks of Austin; six grandchildren and four grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

Allan Jewell, age 36, of Zephyr, and formerly of Coleman, died at noon on Saturday, January 19, 2002 at his residence.  A memorial service was held at 2:00 p. m. Monday (January 21, 2002) at Walker Funeral Home with Rev. Kermit Sorrells officiating.

He was born February 2, 1965 in Santa Anna, Texas and was the son of Dexter Jewell and Eula Faye Potter.  He was a graduate of Coleman High School.  He had lived in Coleman several years, then in Brownwood, moving to Zephyr about a year ago.  He was an employee of Dan Hill Containers and a partner in Earth Buddies Farms.  He was a Baptist.  He and Robin Ogden were married at Lake Brownwood in April of 1996.

Survivors include his wife, Robin Jewell of Zephyr; three sisters, Delores (Dee Dee) Hudson of Santa Anna, Janice Wells of Coleman and Dianne Brooks of The Colony;  his parents-in-law, Bob and Kathy Ogden of Zephyr; sisters-in-law Terry Inglet, Dawn Monk and Krystal Couey; brothers-in-law Richard Couey and Chris Monk; a nephew, Ramey Couey, he was rearing as a son; other nieces and nephews, Brennan Couey, Kelsi Couey, Robert Ogden, Jason Ogden, Aron Ogden, Heaven Couey, Kathryn Cole, Jefflyn Hudson, Jason Smith, Josh Weedon, Darren Wells, Reece Wells, Diana Frausto, Jana Wells, Jennifer Brooks and Michael Brooks.  His brother-in-law, Dino Ogden also passed away at the same time Allan did.

Nick Buse, age 84, of Santa Anna, Texas passed away Saturday, January 19, 2002 at 8:00 p. m. at his residence.  Services were Wednesday at 2:00 p. m. at First Baptist Church with Rev. Raymond Jones officiating.  Interment followed at the Bangs Cemetery under the direction of Henderson Funeral Home of Santa Anna.

Nick was born January 17, 1918 in Bangs to the late John and Pearl Jackson Buse.  He was reared in Brown County where he attended the Concord Schools and graduated in 1936 from Bangs High School.  Nick married Etta Earle Avinger in Bangs on September 9, 1939 and they celebrated sixty-two years of marriage.  He was a lifetime resident of Coleman and Brown Counties and a member of the First Baptist Church of Santa Anna.  Nick was a security guard for 3-M, retiring in 1983.

Survivors include his wife - Etta Earle Buse of Santa Anna; a daughter, Earla Pallette of May, Texas; grandson and fiancee, Tim Pallette of May and Holly Hamlett of Early; and a sister, Maurine Byrd of San Angelo.

Pallbearers were L. M. Guthrie, M. L. Guthrie, Pete Rutherford, Vernon Rowe, Johnny Deal, Stanley Hartman.  Honorary pallbearers included Joe Wallace, Eddie Jones, Elgean Harris, Rex Turney, and Darwin Lovelady.

CLYDE:  Joyce Coffman Brown, 49, died Saturday, January 19, 2002, at an Abilene hospital.  Services were 2 p. m. Monday at the Hwy. 36 Church of Christ with Ed Headrick officiating.  Graveside services followed in the Dudley Cemetery, directed by Bailey Funeral Home of Clyde.

Mrs. Brown was born November 28, 1952, to Jesse and Dorothy Whitley Coffman in Abilene.  She married Billy Bob Brown on November 19, 1986 in Novice.  She was a lifelong resident of the Abilene and Callahan County area.  She was a member of the Hwy. 36 Church of Christ.

Survivors include her husband, Billy Brown of Abilene; her mother, Dorothy Coffman of Dudley; two brothers, Jesse Doyle Coffman and Randall Bruton Coffman, both of Dudley; a sister, Bertha Gaye May of Dudley; and several nieces and nephews.

Charles Edwin Webb, age 81, died Sunday, January 20, 2002 in Cape Coral, Florida.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Wednesday, January 23 (2002) in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. G. Dean Coultas officiating.  Burial will follow in Coleman City Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home in Coleman, Texas. 

Charles E. Webb was born February 8, 1920 in Valera, Coleman County, Texas and was the son of Gilbert Henry Webb and Annie Laura Vaughn Webb.  He grew up in Valera and graduated from Centennial High School in Talpa.  During World War II he served in the United States Air Force.  He married Mary Ella Jarrell on June 5, 1943 and she preceded him in death on October 13, 1998.  He graduated from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth and received his Master of Law Degree from Woodrow Wilson College of Law in Atlanta, Georgia.  From 1973 - 1975 he served as the Chief Magistrate of the DeKalb County Magistrate Court and from 1975 - 1977 as a Judge in the DeKalb County Recorder Court, in Atlanta, Georgia.  Judge Webb was the Administrative Aide to the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Georgia from 1977 - 1992 and served as spokesman, speech writer and public information officer in that capacity.  During his time of service to the court, he served under six Chief Justices and was the overseer of television cameras in the courtroom.  Following his retirement from the court, he practiced law with his son, Michael Steven Webb, in the firm of Webb and Webb in Atlanta from 1992 - 1997.  He had recently moved to Cape Coral, Florida from Atlanta.  He was a member of the Disciples of Christ.

Survivors include one son, Michael Steven Webb of Lawrenceville, Georgia; one daughter and son-in-law, Linda K. Webb Nash and Hollis W. Nash of Cape Coral, Florida; former daughter-in-law, Pamela Webb of Lawrenceville, Georgia; five grandsons, Christopher Charles Webb, Austin Matthew Webb and Brandon Jarrell Webb all of Lawrenceville, Georgia; Sean Michael Nash of Cape Coral, Florida and Stephen Hollis Nash and wife Christy Nash of Chesapeake, Virginia; one great-granddaughter, Brianna Nash of Chesapeake, Virginia; cousins, nieces and nephews; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Joy and Bill Slack of Coleman.

Visitation will be held Wednesday morning at Stevens Funeral Home in Coleman, Texas.

John L. "Jack" Jones, age 96 of Midland, passed away January 20, 2002, at his residence.  Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p. m. today (Tuesday), January 22nd, at St. Luke's United Methodist Church with the Rev. Richard Edwards officiating.  Graveside Masonic services will be held at 1 p. m. Wednesday, January 23rd, at Talpa Cemetery in Talpa, Texas.  Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home of Midland.

He was born November 17, 1905, in Talpa, Texas, to pioneer settlers John and Mary Jones.  On December 26, 1929, he married Maudie J. West.  Jack retired from Shell Pipeline Corporation on December 1, 1970, after 28 years of service as a communications technician.  He had also been presented with his 50th and 65th Masonic Service Awards.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, his wife in 1993; and his son, John L. Jones III in 1980.  He is survived by his son, Stephen Lee Jones and his wife, Kathy, of Alexandria, Virginia; grandson, Trevor L. Jones and his wife, Nancy, of Midland; and great-grandson, Casey Jones of Midland.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Men's Bible Class of St. Luke's United Methodist Church.

Funeral services for Marie E. Graham, 62, of Brownwood were held at 2 p. m. Thursday at Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dick Schultz officiating.  Interment followed in the Greenleaf Cemetery.  Mrs. Graham died Sunday, January 20, 2002, at her residence.

She was born December 23, 1939 in Oklahoma.  She married Howard Graham in Coleman on June 19, 1993.  She was a retired office manager for Brownwood Welding Supply.  She was a Baptist and had lived in Brownwood since 1975.

Survivors include her husband, Howard Graham, of Brownwood; two sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Sandy Wright of Windham, New Hampshire and Don and wife Cathy Wright of Stephenville; step-son Dennis and wife Kim Graham of Amarillo; step-daughter Cynthia Graham and husband John Love of Houston; three grandchildren; a step-grandson; her mother, Lahoma and husband Ed Sherwood of Lake Toledo Bend, Louisiana; two brothers, Kenny Edwards of Sterling, Kansas and Steve Edwards of Lake Toledo Bend, Louisiana; a sister, Carol and husband Kenneth Buckley of Lake Toledo Bend, Louisiana; and six nephews and nieces.

Charles Vern Green, age 61, of Brownwood and formerly of Galveston, died at his home Sunday morning, January 20, 2002.  Graveside services will be at 10 a. m. this morning (Tuesday) at the Voss Cemetery under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home of Early.

He was born October 17, 1940 in Gouldbusk, Texas in Coleman County, the son of the late Robey and Hettie Green.  He had lived in Brownwood for the past year, moving from Galveston where he retired from working with the City of Galveston for over 20 years.  He formerly lived in Brownwood and attended Brownwood Schools.

He is survived by a brother, Richard Green of Fort Worth and a nephew, Amo Green of Fort Worth.

Graveside services for Claud Everett Flippin, 93, were held at 2 p. m. Saturday, January 26, 2002, in Paducah's Garden of Memories.  Rev. Roy C. Keith, pastor of First Christian Church, Paducah, officiated, and arrangements were under the direction of Seigler Funeral Home.  Mr. Flippin died Monday, January 21, 2002 in a Marshall, Texas nursing center.

Born June 10, 1908 in Dumont, Texas to Asher and Lona Flippin, he was raised on the Pitchfork, and first worked as a very young cowboy at the Pitchfork Headquarters.  He later worked on the Gardner Ranch, and farmed and ranched in the Dumont, Afton and Matador area.  Claud was known as "the old cowboy" and helped with the rodeo, parade and Old Settlers Reunion for many years.  He married Irma Rogers November 3, 1934.  She preceded him in death August 3, 1953.  He also was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, three sisters, and his daughter, Glenda Tippen.

Survivors include one brother, T. O. Flippin of Las Vegas, Nevada; one sister, Ruth Hext of Coleman, Texas, three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

MORGANTOWN, WEST VIRGINIA:  L. Ted Moore, former faculty member in the Department of Industrial Engineering at West Virginia University, passed away on Monday, January 21, 2002 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.  Cremation services will be provided by Hastings Funeral Home of Morgantown, West Virginia.  Private family interment will be held at a later date in Voss, Texas, at the convenience of the family.

He was born June 6, 1939 in Sweetwater, Texas, the son of Jimmie and the late Winston Moore.  Prior to going to WVU in 1976, he taught at South Texas Junior College and the University of Houston at Houston, Texas.  He retired as Professor of Industrial Engineering in 1997.  A 1957 graduate of Abilene High School, in Abilene, Texas, he earned a Bachelor's and Master's Degree from Abilene Christian University, a Master's Degree in Physics from the University of Houston and a PhD. in Applied Mathematical Sciences from Rice University, Houston.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Charlene, of Morgantown; his mother and stepfather, Jimmie and Joe Moore of Abilene; his son, Tom of Baltimore, Maryland; and a brother, Tim of Abilene.  He was preceded in death by his father, Winston, "Slim Willet" Moore in 1966.

Donations may be made in his memory to a charity of donor's choice.

DeLEON:  Funeral services for Elizabeth  June Barefoot, 79, of DeLeon were held at 2 p. m. Thursday at Nowlin Funeral Home Chapel with Kenneth Wilson officiating.  Burial was in the DeLeon Cemetery under the direction of Nowlin Funeral Home.  Mrs. Barefoot died Tuesday, January 22, 2002 in Mineral Wells Care Center.

She was born June 8, 1922 in Coleman to the late Ed Downs and Margaret Etta Carroll Downs.  She married Martin B. Barefoot on December 23, 1939, in Coleman.  She was a homemaker and had resided in DeLeon most of her life.  She was a member of Northside Baptist Church.

Survivors include three sons, Eddie Barefoot of Wickett, Kenny Barefoot of Wichita Falls; two daughters, Twila Pruitt of Mineral Wells and Mary Etta pair of DeLeon; one brother, Charles Downs of Louisiana; two sisters, Mary Jones of Granbury and Carolyn Brown of Smithville, Missouri; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and one brother, Eddie Downs.

Thomas Jefferson Witt, age 80 of Coleman, died Wednesday, January 22, 2002 at Bangs Nursing Home.  Funeral services will be held 2:00 p. m. Friday, January 25, 2002 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial will be in the Coleman City Cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Thomas Witt was born September 8, 1921 in Paris, Texas, a son of Tom and Myrtle Brooks Witt.  He was raised and attended school in Oklahoma.  He married Pearl Watts in 1945.  He later married Bettie Dean on May 31, 1967 in Mexico.  He lived in San Angelo and Santa Anna before moving back to Coleman 14 years ago.  He worked construction and in the oil field, liked all outdoor activities and was a member of the Assembly of God Church.

He is survived by his wife, Bettie Witt of Coleman; two sons, Charles Witt of Emory, Texas, Alvin Roy Witt of Mineral Wells; two step-sons, Woody Epperson and Oscar Epperson both of San Angelo; two step-daughters, Linda Gatlin of Whitney, Texas, Betty Fae Conner of San Angelo; one sister, Winnie Pelton of Kerrville; his first wife, Pearl Watts Grisby; nine grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Joe Witt.

Visitation will be Friday morning, January 25, 2002, from 10:00 to 12:00 noon.

Funeral services for Marion Lapp, age 85, of Santa Anna, were held at 2 p. m. Saturday in Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel, Brownwood.  Cremation followed the service, under the direction of Davis-Morris Funeral Home.  Mrs. Lapp died Wednesday, January 23, 2002 at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene.  She was born April 25, 1916, in New York and had lived in the Santa Anna area for three years.

Edith I. Jameson, age 94, of Coleman died Thursday, January 24, 2002 at Coleman County Medical Center.  Funeral services will be held 2:00 p. m. Saturday (January 26, 2002) at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. G. Dean Coultas officiating.  Burial will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Mrs. Jameson was born November 4, 1907 in Coleman, a daughter of John Lee and Mabel Herring Wilkinson.  She was reared and attended schools in Coleman.  She married Leonard Jameson on December 9, 1934 in Coleman.  He preceded her in death on August 1, 1978.  She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, County Home Demonstration Club.  She also china painted and was very interested in the history of the Wilkinson and Jameson families.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two sisters, Alice Wilkinson Mosteller of Austin, Gladys W. Dotson of Rusk; two brothers, Arthur Wilkinson of Coleman and Aubrey Wilkinson of Kyle (Texas); and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four sisters, Lucille Mosshart, Jane Kollman, Louise Owens, Rose Watson and three brothers, Clyde Wilkinson, Alva Lee Wilkinson and Charles C. Wilkinson.

Pallbearers were nephews: Don Wilkinson, Brad Wilkinson, Edwin Kollman, George Owens and Randel Jameson.

Geneva Simpson Dixon, 63, died Thursday, January 24, 2002 at Coleman County Medical Center.  Graveside services were held at 4 p. m. Saturday at Coleman City Cemetery with Rev. Don Northway officiating.  Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Geneva Simpson Dixon was born March 17, 1936 in Coleman (Texas) and was a daughter of William Allen Sanders and Margurette Lois Reed Sanders.  She grew up in Coleman and attended school here.  She was married to Leslie Doyle Dixon in 1985.  Mrs. Dixon worked for home health as a caregiver.  She was Baptist. 

Survivors are her husband, Leslie Doyle Dixon of Coleman; two daughters, Paula Balfanz and Neva Simpson both of Coleman; one son, William Lewis Simpson of Coleman; two step-daughters, Debbie Thompson and Carrie Robbins both of Abilene; one step-son, Jamie Dixon of Dallas; a step-brother, Ronnie Sanders of Eden; a step-sister, Vicki Walton of San Angelo; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; an aunt, Ozella Grindel of Rochelle, Texas; cousin, Geneva Newman of Coleman.

Beulah Myers Burleson, age 97, of Coleman died Friday (January 25, 2002) at Holiday Hill Nursing Home.  Funeral services were 2:00 p. m. Sunday in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jim Lafferty officiating.  Graveside services were 2:00 p.m. Monday (January 28, 2002) in Hillside Cemetery in Purcell, Oklahoma.  Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Mrs. Burleson was born July 19, 1904 in Waxahachie, Texas and was the daughter of the late Jim and Dolly Myers.  She grew up in Gouldbusk, Texas and attended school at Hardin.  She married Carl Burleson on December 23, 1925 in Gouldbusk.  He preceded her in death on December 18, 1950.  She lived in Oklahoma until 1951 when she moved to Coleman.  She was a farmer, homemaker and Baptist.

Survivors include one son, C. W. Burleson of Shepherd, Texas; one daughter, Peggy Bryant of Byars, Oklahoma; two brothers, James Myers of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Glen Myers of Austin; five sisters, Blanche Alford of Chesapeake, Virginia, Lorene Maerz of Industry (Texas), Dovie Garrett of Coleman, Texas, Helen Smith of Blanco and Doris Lafferty of Cameron; ten grandchildren, Jeanette Burleson, Marsha Miller, Janice Burleson, Randy Bryant, Gaylon Bryant, Mark Bryant, Joe Bryant, Diane Gilbert, Eric Bryant and Laura Arnold; twenty-three great-grandchildren and twenty-five great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; two sons, James in 1942 and Bill in 1968; one grandson, Rocky, in 1993; and six brothers.

Willie Elizabeth Howard, age 82, of Abilene died Friday, January 25, 2002 at her residence.  Services were 10 a. m. Monday at North's Memorial Chapel in Abilene with Rev. Don Greenway officiating.  Burial was in City Cemetery, in the I. O. O. F. section, directed by North's Funeral Home.

Mrs. Howard was reared in Coleman County and lived in Oklahoma City for several years.  She married Lee Roy Howard in September 1954 in Oklahoma.  He died in 1996.  Mrs. Howard moved to Abilene in 1956 and operated Johnnie's Beauty Salon in her home.  She attended North Side Baptist Church.

Survivors are a daughter, Wanda Markham of Abilene; two granddaughters; four great-granddaughters; a great- great- grandchild; three sisters, Leona Boler of Brownwood, Lorene Amos of Porterville, California, and Louise Lizana of Gulfport, Mississippi; and a brother, Wayne Wells of China Springs.  She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers and three grandchildren.

Clarence N. Davenport, age 91, of Coleman died Saturday, January 26, 2002 at Holiday Hill Nursing Home.  Graveside services will be held 11:00 a. m. today (Tuesday, January 29, 2002) at the Bangs Cemetery with Rev. Dick Schultz officiating.  Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Mr. Davenport was born March 28, 1910 in Concord, Brown County, Texas. He was reared and attended school in southern Brown County.  He married Gladys Pike on December 24, 1937 in Brownwood.  She preceded him in death on January 16, 1977.  He later married Essie Armstrong on January 21, 1978 in Coleman.  She preceded him in death on July 7, 2001.  He was a farmer and rancher and a Baptist.

Survivors include one grandson, Steve Davis of Coleman; one son-in-law, Dalton Davis of Coleman; and one great-grandson, Cody Davis of Anchorage, Alaska.  Mr. Davenport was preceded in death by one daughter, LaNelle Davis; and two brothers, Clyde Davenport and Elbert Davenport.  Memorials may be made to the Hospice of the Big County, 4601 Hartford, Abilene, Texas 79605.

Funeral services for Glendolyn (Glennie) Glass will be today (Tuesday) at 10:30 a. m. in Davis - Morris Funeral Home Chapel with Reverends Chuck Gartman and Eddie Ailshie officiating.  Interment will follow in the Greenleaf Cemetery.  Mrs. Glass passed away Saturday, January 26, 2002 at Oak Ridge Manor.

She was born September 1, 1921 in Burkett and married John Glass in 1944 in Brownwood.  An active member of Calvary Baptist Church and later Early First Baptist Church until her illness, she also participated as a volunteer in the Hospital Auxiliary for many years.  She worked alongside her husband at Ranchman's Wool and Mohair before working as an LVN.

Survivors include three daughters, Carolyn Brandenburg and husband, Steve of Brownwood; Connie Gartman and husband, Chuck of Franklin, Tennessee; and Marsha Collins and husband, Roger of San Angelo; nine grandchildren, Cindie and husband, Christopher Clayton, Julie and husband, Richard Simon, Brandie Gartman, Brittany and husband, Craig Tackett, Brooklyn Gartman, Chaney and Carson Collins, Chuck and wife, Monica Brandenburg and Howell Brandenburg; and six great-grandchildren, Ali Clayton, Hannah, Joshua, Abigail, Sarah and Grace Brandenburg; two brothers, Doyle Johnson of Waco and Bobby Johnson of Rankin; sister-in-law, Pauline Hochhalter of Brownwood; and a number of nieces and nephew.  She was preceded in death by her husband, John A. Glass and five brothers and sisters.  Memorials may be made to Early First Baptist Church.

Kelsie Delphine Jenkins, age 64, of San Angelo, died Saturday, January 26, 2002, in San Angelo.  A life celebration will be held at 2 p.m. today (Tuesday) at Central Baptist Church with Rev. David Jenkins, church pastor, officiating.  Burial will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery, under the direction of Walker Funeral Home.

She was born November 7, 1937 in Coleman County to James Dugan Gorman and Opal Marie Parker Gorman.  On June 8, 1957, she and Floyd Jenkins were married in Coleman.  She was an administrative assistant and a Baptist.

Survivors include her husband, Floyd Jenkins, of San Angelo; daughter, Sonja Gray of Midland; son, Randall Jenkins of San Angelo; sister, June Rogers of Fort Worth; brother, J. D. Gorman, Jr. of Zapata; and five grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by sister, Georgia Frizzell.  Memorials may be made to the Diabetic Association.

Arcadio Olguin, age 68, died at 1:30 p. m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, in a San Angelo hospital.  A Prayer service was held Sunday evening at 7 p. m. at Walker Funeral Home.  Mass was Monday morning at 10 o'clock at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Rev. Father Larry Cyr officiating.  Burial followed in Coleman City Cemetery, under the direction of Walker Funeral Home.

Born March 3, 1933 in Ciudad Fernandez San Luis Potosi, Mexico, he was the son of Felix Olguin and Herlinda Gerrero Olguin.  On April 7, 1955, he and Guadalupe were married in San Luis Potosi, Mexico.  He had been a resident of Coleman County for the past 13 years and had worked at Stempel Mfg.

Survivors are his wife, Guadalupe Olguin of Coleman; daughters, Rose Olguin and Eva Olguin, both of Mexico; sons, Fransisco Olguin, Alfredo Olguin, both of Mexico, Pedro Olguin, Alberto Olguin, Jose Olguin and Jose Luis Olguin, sisters, Alberta Olguin and Juanita Olguin, all of Coleman; sisters, Alberta Olguin and Juanita Olguin, both of Mexico; brother, Bacilio Olguin, all of Mexico; 28 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Winona Pierson, age 92, of Brownwood, formerly of Coleman, passed away Sunday, January 27, 2002 at 11:35 p.m. at Brownwood Regional Medical Center.  Graveside services will be held at 12 noon tomorrow (Wednesday), January 30, at Burkett Cemetery with Father Benedict Zientek of Saint Mary's Catholic Church of Brownwood officiating. Services are under the direction of Walker Funeral Home.

Winona was born at the Young Ranch near Burkett September 29, 1909 to Thomas Young and Ann Babb Young.  She married Harold Stovall and later married Gene Pierson in 1958 in Coleman.  Gene preceded her in death in 1999.  She lived her early life in Coleman and had resided in Brownwood the last thirty years.  She was an artist, taught art in both cities and was a member of Saint Mary's Catholic Church.

Survivors include one son, John Alex Stovall and wife, Jeanne B. Stovall of Dublin; three nephews, Roy Young of Burkett, Andy Dale Young of Coleman and Boyd Babb "BB" Young of Abilene; one niece, Lavada Young of Coleman; and many other relatives.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent in her name to Coleman Public Library, 402 Commercial Avenue, Coleman, Texas 76834.

Funeral services for G. R. "Bob Scott, age 74, of Morton, Texas are scheduled fro 2 p. m. today (Tuesday) at First Baptist Church, Morton, Texas with Rev. Paul Lively officiating.  Burial will follow in Morton Memorial Cemetery, under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home of Morton.  Mr. Scott died Sunday, January 27, 2002 in Levelland, Texas.

He was born April 24, 1927 in Morton, Texas.  On January 14, 1950, he and Audrey Faye Kelly were married in Morton.  She preceded him in death on October 28, 2000.  He was a lifelong resident of Morton, member of the Cochran County Senior Citizens and First Baptist Church.  He was a truck driver.

Survivors include two sons, Doug Scott of Coleman and Steve Scott of Seminole; a daughter, Susan Lamb of Morton; sister, June Jacobs of Seminole; brother, Bill Scott of Cuba, New Mexico; and seven grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Scott in 1996.

Shirley Lynn Baker, age 45 of Talpa, died at her residence Monday, January 28, 2002.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Thursday, January 31, 2002 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Loyd Hopper officiating.  Burial will follow in the Talpa Cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Shirley was born October 2, 1956 in Dallas, a daughter of Henry C. and Wanda Jean Warren Green.  She was raised in Dallas and moved to Talpa in 1968.  She graduated from Talpa-Centennial High School and attend Texas State Technical School to become a paramedic.  She married Randall Baker on August 12, 1972 in Valera.  She was a member of Emmanual Baptist Church in Talpa.

She is survived by her husband, Randall Baker of Talpa; three sons, Charles Baker of Talpa, Jeffrey Baker and wife Amy of Gorman, Jacob Baker of Talpa; two sisters, Debbie Answorth and husband Tex of Hutchins, Texas, Linda Chantaca and husband Rick of Talpa; one brother, Henry C. Green, Jr. and wife Katherine of McKinney; two uncles, Harold Warren of Mineola, Texas; Carl Warren of Abilene; one aunt, Frances Warren of Dallas; one grandson, Justin Baker of Gorman and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, including special nieces Christy Chantaca of Talpa; Rachel Gilbert of Mesquite and special nephew Brady Watson of Mesquite.  She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Olie Warren, her parents, and one uncle, Charles Warren.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 30, 2002 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Marjorie Woods Dobblns, age 72, of Coleman, died at 7:10 p. m. Wednesday, January 29, 2002 at Coleman County Medical Center.  Funeral services will be 2 p. m. Friday at Walker Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial will follow in Coleman City Cemetery.

She was born June 30, 1929 in Thomasville, Missouri and was the daughter of Com Woods and Myrtle Coleman.  On April 24, 1948, she and John R. Dobbins were married in Hobbs, New Mexico where they lived until 1981, moving back here.  She worked at Holiday Hill Nursing Home for 17 years as a nurses’ aide and was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, John R. Dobbins of Coleman; three daughters, Jeannie Ruth Herring of Mesquite, Elizabeth Ann McLaughlin and Connie M. Olinger, both of Coleman; live sons, Andy R. Dobbins of McKinney, Eugene Dobbins, Donnie Dobbins, Johnnie Dobbins and Robert Dobbins, all of Coleman; three sisters, Mary Jo Montgomery of Roswell, New Mexico, Fern Smith and Nancy Moddiset, both of Lamesa; two brothers, Joe Woods of Hobbs, New Mexico and Claude Woods of Fort Worth; 20 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.  Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Association.  Family visitation will be this evening (Thursday) from 6 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

William Ray McGary, age 54, of Coleman died Wednesday, January 30, 2002 at his sister’s residence.  A private burial will be held at Coleman Cemetery.  Stevens Funeral Home is, in charge of the arrangements.  Mr. McGary was born April 5,1947 in San Angelo, a son of Alton and Essie Stout McGary.  He was reared in San Angelo and attended school in Phoenix, Arizona.  He was a roughneck and oil driller and a Pentecostal.

He is survived by one daughter, Mary McGary Carter (and husband Earl Lyn Carter, II) of Santa Anna; three sons, William McGary, II, William McGary, Ill, and Charles Ray McGary all of San Angelo; three sisters, Betty Nowlain (and husband Earl) of Coleman, FIo Sanders of Palacios, Texas, and Mary Laws of Watonka, Oklahoma; two brothers, Leo Harding of Victoria, Texas and Alton McGary, Jr. of San Angelo; three grandchildren, Earl Lyn Carter, Ill of Santa Anna, Betty Kay Carter of Santa Anna and David Ray McGary of San Angelo; fiancee Sue Montgomery of Wichita Falls and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents arid one brother, Homer Hardin.

J. B. Whisehunt, 72, of Coleman died at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 30, 2002 at Coleman County Medical Center.  Funeral services were 3:30 p.m. Friday at Walker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Jenkins, pastor of Central Baptist Church, officiating.  Burial followed in Coleman City Cemetery, under the direction of Walker Funeral Home.

Born February 28, 1929 in Merkel, Texas, he was the son of Monroe Wesley and Myrtle May.  On December 31, 1959, he married Joyice Simpson.  A resident of Coleman County since 1999, he was retired from General Tire and was a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, Joyice Whisenhunt of Coleman; two daughters and a son-in-Iaw, Joan and Mason Cullins of Coleman and Katrina Jean Doggett of Abilene; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.  Two daughters preceded him in death.

SNYDER:  Louise Cooper Davis, age 92, (former Coleman County resident) died Wednesday, January 30, 2002 at Cogdell Memorial Hospital.  Services were 2:00 p.m. Friday in Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Buddy Payne and Rev. David Robertson officiating.  Burial was in Snyder Cemetery.

Mrs. Davis was born July 30,1909 in Coleman County.  She married Alton Davis on October 12, 1935 in Santa Anna.  She was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church.  She and her husband worked at ranches in Callahan, Coleman, Crosby and Shackelford counties.  They moved to Snyder in 1957.

Survivors include her husband, Alton Davis of Snyder; a son, Tommy Davis of Granbury; a brother, Elec Cooper of Rockwood; a sister, Viva “Toad” Bolton of Albuquerque, New Mexico; a grandson; great-granddaughter and two great-great-granddaughters.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Effie Freeman Cooper; two sisters; and three brothers.

BALLINGER:  Mary Lois White Forman, age 100, of Ballinger died Thursday, January 31, 2002.  Funeral service was 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Ballinger. Interment followed in the Coleman Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Rains-Seale Funeral Home of Ballinger.

Born June 18, 1901 in New York, Franklin County, Texas, she was the daughter of Reverend P. R. White and Rena Jones White.  She worked her way through Southwestern University, Georgetown, Texas by working in the university library and teaching in one-room schools every other semester. Upon her graduation in 1923, she took a job in the Ballinger public schools.  On June 12, 1923, she and Joe Forman were married in Ballinger.  She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, teaching Sunday School for over 65 years while maintaining her membership in the Philathia Class.  Mrs. Forman held several offices in the local church and in the Brownwood District and Central Texas Conference of the Methodist Church.  She was awarded a Life Membership in the Methodist Women’s Missionary Society in the mid 1950’s and a Sunday School class honored her recently by naming their circle after her.  Among many other church activities, she also worked with the Ballinger Council of Churches, organizing the local World Day of Prayer for many years.  While teaching, she was active in school organizations, such as coaching debate and directing student plays.  She was also active in the community, supporting charitable organizations, organizing fund drives, etc.  She was a member of the Shakespeare Club and the Music Club.  During World War II, she worked with the young wives and soldiers stationed at Bruce Field and the wives and girl friends left at home, helping them cope with the turmoil of war in their lives.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Jo and Charles Konen of Houston: her grandson, Keith Forman Konen of College Station; four sisters-in-law, Mrs. G. C. Miller of San Angelo, Mrs. Paul Smith of Coleman, Mrs. Glenn Forman of Galveston and Mrs. Robert Forman of Bronte; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.  She was preceded in death by a son Joseph White Forman in 1926; her husband Joe in 1973; and two brothers, Rankin White and Rev. Jester White.

LUBBOCK: Rosary services for Eutimio De La Rosa Martinez, Sr., 77, of Lubbock were 7 p.m. Friday at W.W. Rix Chapel, Mass was celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Reverend Cornelio Ramirez officiating.  Interment followed in the Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park under the direction of Rix Funeral Directors.  Mr. Martinez died Thursday, January 31, 2002, at Covenant Medical Center.

He was born April 15, 1942 in Santa Anna, Texas.  He was a resident of Santa Anna until he moved to Floydada in 1950 and then to Lubbock in 1965.  On August 30, 1942, he and Sabina Aguilar were married in Santa Anna.  He was a serviceman for Shook Tire Company, Montgomery Wards and Furrs Incorporated.  He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Sabina Aguilar Martinez of Lubbock; two sons, Eutimio Martinez, Jr. of Floydada and Richard Martinez of Lubbock; a daughter, Gloria Ann Lopez of Lubbock; nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; a brother, Adolfo Martinez of Brownwood; two sisters, Ofelia De Leon of Santa Anna and EIoisa Jaramillo of Denver, Colorado.
