James Lloyd Mock, 73

James Lloyd Mock of Post died Monday, June 4, 2001 at Covenant Medical Center - Lakeside.  Funeral services will be at 10:00 a. m. Wednesday, June 6th, at the First Baptist Church of Post with Rev. Keith Cooper officiating.  Interment will be at 5:00 p. m. Wednesday at Trickham Cemetery under the direction of Hudman Funeral Home of Post.

He was born February 15, 1928 in Lynn County, Texas.  He married Lea Mitchell in Garza County on December 13, 1959. James worked with George R. Brown Partnership for 40 years retiring as production foreman.  He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and a member of the Post Volunteer Fire Department where he was Fire Chief for years.

Survivors include his wife, Lea Mock of Post; two daughters, Nora Jane Lesley of Lubbock and Jennie Stitt of Honolulu, Hawaii; a son, James Mock of Dripping Springs; two sisters, Nelda Rudd of Slaton and Janice Martin of Amarillo; eight grandchildren.

Lee C. Woodin, 49

Lee Woodin, son of Joseph and Norene Woodin of Coleman, died at his residence in Chaparral, New Mexico on Tuesday, June 5, 2001.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a. m. Saturday, June 9, 2001 at Coleman City Cemetery Pavilion, directed by Walker Funeral Home. Rev. Kermit Sorrells, retired Methodist minister, and Rev. Helen McIver, pastor of Trinity Methodist Church in Coleman, will officiate.  Family visitation will be held from 6:00 p. m. to 7:00 p. m. Friday at the funeral home.  Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society.

Lee was born in 1951 in Fayetteville, North Carolina but spent most of his life in El Paso.  He was a graduate of El Paso Andress High School and held a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Texas at El Paso.  He was a college professor and had lived in Chaparral for many years.

Survivors include his parents, Joseph and Norene Woodin of Coleman; two sisters, Dr. Pamala Allen and husband Arthur of Fall River Mills, California and Sandra K. Woodin Lacy of Coleman; a nephew, Joseph Lacy of Coleman.

Leah Nowell, 78

Leah Nowell of Coleman died Wednesday, June 6, 2001 at her residence.  Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 a. m. Friday, June 8, 2001 at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Fort Worth with her son-in-law, Darrel Hohmann, officiating. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.  Family visitation will be from 7:00 p. m. to 9:00 p. m. Thursday at Stevens.

She was born on December 16, 1922 in Grand Prairie, Texas.  She grew up in Arlington and graduated from Arlington High School.  In 1944, she married Hiram W. Nowell in Arlington and he preceded her in death.  Along with her husband, she owned Hi-Leah Drill Service.  She moved to Coleman in 1998 and attended the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Survivors include three children, Michael Nowell of Azle, Ireanne Hohmann of Coleman and Walter Nowell of Greenville; two sisters, Evelyn Cole of Arlington and Lula Mae Mitchell of Ardmore, Oklahoma; one brother, Walter Cunningham of Beaumont, Texas; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

Tammy L. Scott, 24

Tammy Scott of Coleman died at her residence at 2:00 p. m. Friday, June 8, 2001.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 10, 2001 at Walker Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial will follow at Rocky Creek Cemetery.

She was born in Abilene in 1976 and was a Ceritified Nurses Aide at Holiday Hill Nursing Home and also in Abilene. She spent most of her life in Coleman.

Survivors include: her parents, Stanley and Minnie Watson of Coleman; a sister, Amy Ash of Abilene; two brothers, Randy Irwin and Tony Watson, both of Coleman; maternal grandmother, Mrs. James Lively of Clyde; aunts, Janie Hyden of Clyde and Janis Hyden of Del Rio.

Ramona Marcee, 43

Ramona Jean Marcee, age 43, of Brownwood, died at her residence in Brownwood.  Graveside funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 12, 2001 at 2:00 p. m. at Coleman City Cemetery with Dr. Charles Sheffield officiating.  Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Mona was born July 3, 1957 and was the daughter of Kenneth James "Mickey" Smith and Sharon Jean Ashley.  She grew up in Coleman and Santa Anna and attended school in Santa Anna.  She was previously married to Steven Curtis Marcee.  She moved to Brownwood six years ago and had been employed as a music purchasing agent for music stores. She was a Baptist and a member of The Walrus Club. 

Survivors include one son, Travis Michael Marcee of Abilene; her mother, Sharon Jean Ashley of Brownwood; her father and step-mother, Kenneth James "Mickey" Smith and Gussie Smith of Coleman; one brother, Randy Wayne Smith of Austin; one sister, Amy Smith-Ward and husband Daryl of Brownwood; her grandmother, Christine Singleton on Snyder; half-brother, Bryan Raney of Laredo; one step-brother, Ronnie (and wife Karen) Aycox of Brownwood.  She was preceded in death by one brother, Marty Smith.

Frank Rosalez, Sr., 84

Frank Rosalez of Coleman died at his residence at 3:25 p. m. Monday, June 11, 2001.  Prayer services will be held at 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 12, 2001 at Walker Funeral Home Chapel.  Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 p. m. Wednesday, June 13th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Larry Cyr officiating.  Burial will follow at Coleman City Cemetery.

He was born in 1917 and married Simona Martinez in 1938 in Brownwood.  She preceded him in death in January 2001. He spent most of his life in Coleman.  He was a retired laborer and farmer.

Survivors include six daughters, Sophia Rangel of Stockdale, Texas, Mary Louise Nunez of Atlanta, Texas, Stella Salas of Abilene, Carolyn Rosalez of San Angelo, Pauline Ramirez of Brownwood and Josie Salgado of Coleman; seven sons, Rosario Rosalez of Murray, Idaho, Rudy Rosalez, Frank Rosalez, Jr. and Eddie Rosalez, all of Coleman, Joe Rosalez of Fort Worth, David Rosalez of Brownwood and Peter Rosalez of Seattle, Washington; three sisters, Betty Martinez, Tillie Gonzales of Abilene and Sarah Cortez of Haskell; 55 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren.


 
Panze Butler Kimmel, 74

Services for Panze Butler Kimmel of Lubbock will be at 2:00 p. m. Thursday at First Baptist Church with the Reverend John H. Ballard officiating.  She died Monday, June 11, 2001. 

She was born January 1, 1927 in Lubbock, Texas.  She married R. Turner Kimmel on August 4, 1950 in Lubbock.  He died in 1961.  She was a graduate of Lubbock High School, Texas Tech with a Bachelors Degree and a Doctorate in Elementary Education and the University of Texas with a Masters Degree. She taught music in Coleman schools from 1948 to 1950.

Survivors include a son, Dr. Robert Kimmel of San Antonio; a daughter, Carol Clowes of Nassau; a brother, Dr. Milton C. Butler, Jr. of San Antonio; four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends in the church parlor following the services.  The family suggests memorials be sent to Panze B. Kimmel Scholarship College of Education, Texas Tech Foundation, R. Turner and Panze Kimmel Scholarship College of Architecture and the Haven Animal Care Shelter.

Randy Smith, 20

Randy Smith, age 20, of Coleman, died Wednesday, June 13, 2001 at San Angelo Community Medical Center.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Friday at Elm Street Church of Christ with Jeff Robinett officiating.  Burial will follow at Coleman Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Randy was born October 6, 1980 in Brownwood, Texas and was the son of Sherman Smith and Tammy Baugh Smith.  He grew up in Coleman and attended school here.

Survivors include his parents, Sherman and Tammy Smith of Coleman; one brother, Rick Smith of Del Rio, Texas; one niece, Ivie Shay Smith of Coleman; grandparents, Johnny and Melba Baugh of Coleman; great-grandmother, Virgie Baugh of Abilene; aunts and uncles, Dean and Patricia Constable of Midland, Darrell and Wanda Hunter of Burkett, Robert and Clarice Trammell of Midland, Tim and Dena Baugh of Midland, Terry and Penne Baugh of Breckenridge and John and Tina Hensley of Coleman; numerous cousins.  He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Clarence and Bobbie Smith.

Memorials may be made to the West Texas Rehabilitation Center, 4601 Hartford, Abilene, Texas 79605.  Family visitation will be held Thursday from 7:00 p. m. until 9:00 p. m. at the funeral home.

Gertrude Carpenter, 85

Gertrude Carpenter, formerly of Coleman, died Saturday in an Abilene hospital.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 18, 2001 at Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, Highway 277 South, in Abilene.  Cremation will follow under the direction of Elmwood.

She grew up in Abilene, was married to Roy Carpenter who preceded her in death, was a nurses aide and Methodist. 

Survivors include: a daughter, Peggy Wilson of Glendale, Texas; two sisters, Juanita Fredeick of Dallas and Betty Young of Abilene; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Andrew John (A. J.) Kight, 15

Andrew John (A. J.) Kight, age 15, of Coleman died Sunday (June 17, 2001) at Coleman County Medical Center.  Funeral services will be held Friday, June 22, 2001, at 2:00 p. m. at Bible Baptist Church with Rev. Mike McBride and Rev. Gene Kreig officiating, assisted by Rev. Don Northway and Rev. Ernie Kight.  Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home. 

A. J. was born November 21, 1985 in Hutchinson, Kansas, a son of John David Kight and Teresa Ann Northway Kight.  He was raised in Abilene and attended schools in Abilene and Coleman.  He sang in the Junior High Honors Choir and played football.  He moved to Coleman a year ago and was a member of Bible Baptist Church in Coleman.

A. J. is survived by his parents, John and Teresa Kight of Coleman; two brothers, Jason and Johnathon Kight of Coleman; one sister, Krystal Kight of Coleman; grandparents, Rev. Don and Myrt Northway of Coleman and Rev. Ernie and Carolyn Kight of Abilene; great-grandparents, George and Annabelle Schmitz of Iola, Kansas and Ceci and Lila Beeson of East Prairie, Missouri; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Family visitation will be Thursday evening, June 21, 2001, from 6:00 p. m. to 8:00 p. m. at the funeral home.  Honorary pallbearers will be J.W. Vaughn, Kenji Ouchi, Michael Ouchi, Brandon French, Brandon Bouldin and Aaron Dobbins.  Memorials may be made to Bible Baptist Church Youth Department, 1015 S. Commercial Avenue, Coleman, Texas 76834.

Gary M. Williams, 32

Gary M. Williams of San Angelo died at 2:55 p. m. Monday, June 18, 2001 at Arlington, Texas.  Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a. m. Thursday, June 21st, at Coleman City Cemetery Pavilion.  Rev. David Jenkins, pastor of Central Baptist Church of Coleman, will officiate.  Walker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.  Family visitation will be at Walker Funeral Home from 7:00 p. m. to 8:00 p. m. Sunday evening.  Memorials can be made to the American Heart Association. He was born in San Angelo in 1968.

He spent his life in San Angelo and worked with his father in his business, Williams Used Cars.  He was a member of Crossroads Assembly of God Church. Survivors include his father and step-mother, Wayne and Virginia Williams of San Angelo; mother and step-father, Darlinda Kay and Rockie Hopper of Arlington; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Sealy Williams of Coleman; a sister, Christine Gibbs of San Angelo; brother and sister-in-law, Randy and Sharon Williams of San Angelo.

Jewell (Mrs. L.B.) Chapman, 89 

Jewell Chapman of Coleman died at a local nursing home at 10:30 a. m. Tuesday, June 19, 2001.  Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p. m. Thursday, June 21st, at North Coleman Baptist Church with Rev. Billy Roberts, church pastor, officiating.  Burial will follow at White Chapel Cemetery, directed by Walker Funeral Home. 

She was born in Callahan County in 1911 and married L.B. Chapman in Coleman in 1933.  He preceded her in death in 1992.  She had lived in Coleman County since 1912, was a housewife, a school teacher and L. V. N. for many years.  She was a member of North Coleman Baptist Church.

Survivors include: one sister, Dorothy Linch of Tucson, Arizona; two brothers, Kay Hurst of Bangs and Donald Hurst of San Antonio.

Joe Stanley Blackwell, 71

Joe Stanley Blackwell, age 71, former Coleman resident, died Sunday, June 24, 2001, at a Bryan hospital.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a. m. Wednesday at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Elwin Collum officiating.  Burial will follow at Coleman Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Mr. Blackwell was born September 18, 1929 in Rockwood, Texas and was a son of the late E. B. and Roberta Lee Fuqua Blackwell.  He grew up in Coleman and graduated from Coleman High School.  He attended Tarleton, graduated with a bachelor's degree in Agriculture Education from Texas A & M and received his Master of Education degree from Hardin-Simmons University.  He served in the U. S. Army in Korea.  On March 22, 1957, he married Patsy Scarborough in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  He taught school in Coleman, Cloudcroft, NM, Mozelle, Anson, Winters and Coahoma.  In 1995, he moved to Bryan, Texas where he was residing at the time of his death.  He was a member of First Baptist Church in Bryan and also has been a member of the Lion's Club, Gideon's International, a long-time member of the Appaloosa Horse Club and was instrumental in establishing the Junior Rodeo in Coleman.  While living in Coleman, he was an active member of the Breeder Feeder Association and, in Winters, was a member of the Young Farmers of America.

Survivors include his wife, Patsy Blackwell of Bryan, Texas; one son, James Lynn Blackwell and wife Lauris of Austin; one daughter, Renee Blackwell of Bryan; one brother, James Burton Blackwell and wife Louise of Tulsa, Oklahoma; father-in-law, T. L. Scarborough of Coleman; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Tommy and Faye Scarborough of Buckeye, AZ; seven nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty June Ferguson and Joy Beth Emmer, and by a brother-in-law, Ted Emmer.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Joseph's Foundation in Bryan, Texas.  Family visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 p. m. Tuesday at the funeral home.  Pallbearers will be Bill Stephenson, Bill Sneed, Marvin Dozier, Tommy Jamison, Leonard Ehrler and Jimmy Hemphill.  Honorary pallbearers will be Roy McCorkle, Jay Briggs, Olan Holtz, Bill Clifford, Fred Cross, Charles Williams, Don Norton, Stayton Delleny, Grady Joe Harrison, Roland Beal, James Laird, Mark Griffis, James Hargett, Mayo Marrs, John Walthall, J. Velma Helton, 87

Velma Helton, age 87, of Coleman, died Wednesday, June 27, 2001, at Holiday Hill Nursing Home.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Friday at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Jenkins officiating.  Burial will follow at Coleman Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Mrs. Helton was born June 28, 1914 in Rockwood, Texas and was the daughter of the late George Henry Dunn and Sarah Shamblin Dunn.  She grew up in Shields and attended school there.  On December 7, 1935 she married Bailey Helton in Coleman and he preceded her in death on April 10, 1993.  She lived in Cross Roads for a number of years and moved to Coleman in the 1950's.  She was a clerk at J. C. Penney's and later at Grammer's.  She was a member of Central Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Rondald and Sandra Helton of Austin, Texas and Gale and Linda Helton of Covington, Louisiana; one sister, Doris Tillman of Coleman; three brothers, Rev. Raymond Dunn and Berlie Dunn both of Midland, Texas and George Henry Dunn of Grand Prairie, Texas; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

E. W. "Sonny" Hennig, 82

E. W. "Sonny" Hennig, age 82, long-time Coleman County resident, died Thursday evening, June 28, 2001, at Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo following a ranch accident earlier in the evening.  Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Saturday at Coleman City Cemetery with Rev. Jeff Dean officiating.  Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Sonny Hennig was born September 24, 1918 in Rowena, Runnels County, Texas and was a son of Florence Hennig and Hilda Straach Hennig.  Following the death of his mother, he was raised by his grandparents in Lowake and graduated from high school at Paint Rock.  He served in the U. S. Army during World War II and was married to Jo Browning on Thanksgiving Day, 1944 at the Lutheran Church in Rowena.  Prior to his army service, he ranched in Concho and Runnels Counties and following his discharge from the army, he ranched in Coleman County until the time of his death.  He was a long-time member of the American Quarter Horse Association.

Survivors include his wife, Jo Hennig of Glen Cove; two sons, Bill and wife Bonnie Hennig of Glen Cove and Andy and wife Jean Hennig of Abilene; one granddaughter, Marilyn and husband Jody Crowe of Brownwood; one brother, Clarence Hennig of Lowake, Texas; three sisters, Vera Braun (pronounced Brown) of Reno, Nevada, Leora Herring of Grosbeck, Texas and Marie Hennig of Austin, Texas; several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the donor's favorite charity.  Family visitation will be held at 1:00 p. m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Virginia Lee Keele Rush, 64

Virginia Rush of Coleman died at 8:40 p.m. Saturday, June 30, 2001 at Coleman County Medical Center.  Funeral Services will be held at 9:30 a. m. Tuesday, July 3rd at the Coleman City Cemetery Pavilion.  Reverend Billy Roberts, pastor of North Coleman Baptist Church, will officiate.  Services are being arranged by Walker Funeral Home.  Family visitation will be from 7:00 p. m. to 8:00 p. m. Tuesday, July 2nd, at Walker Funeral Home.

She was born in Stanton, Texas in 1937.  She was married to Dale Rush and moved to Coleman from Midland in 1985.  She was retired and a member of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include her husband, Dale Rush of Coleman; one daughter, Virginia Richardson of Coleman; two sons, Junior Thurman and Tommy Thurman, both of Coleman; three sisters, Beulah Benton of Lake Charles, Louisiana, Peggy Spark of Rowena and Barbara Gardener of Weatherford, Texas; two brothers, W. T. Keele of Idaho Falls, Idaho and Kenneth Keele of Odessa; six grandchildren, one great-grandchild.
