Resident of Texas about 60 years - resident of Burkett, Coleman County thirty-nine years. J. L. Allen served in command organized in Texas for 3 years or more. He served in Co. G 22nd Reg't Infantry service. Sworn in 14 August 1913. Affadavit of witness: Appeared S. H. Gilliland and F. B. Colvin: "J. L. Allen has been a bona fide resident of state since 1900." - sworn 14 August 1913. Affadavit of witness: Appeared F. B. Colvin: "I knew J. L. Allen before the War, we were neighbors. I knew when he enlisted in Cherokee County, Texas. I saw him during the war." - sworn 14 August 1913. From the Adjutant General’s Office - October 7, 1913: "James Allen Pvt Co G 22nd Texas Inf. CSA. Enlisted May 10, 1862. Jan - Feb 1864 reported present on roll. April 1865 returns show Allen “Daily duty cook at Brigade Headquarters.” Mortruary Warrant: J. L. Allen - deceased 6 October 1921 in Lamesa, Dawson County, Texas, Home of George Cochran, grandson, W. A. Allen, his brother makes his home in Burkett, Texas. |
