First enlisted in Co A McCulloch Reg't in 1861, in June 1862 enlisted in Co A Willis Battalion, Waul's Legion.

Age:  69.   Born:  Victoria County, Texas.

Resident of Texas for 69 years - at Burkett, Coleman County for 5 years.

"John Adams Alexander served in command organized in Texas.  Served for 4 years in Co A Henry McCulloch Reg't Cavalry service."  (Sworn January 12, 1910)

Affadavit of witness: Appeared T. J. Alexander and J. P. Ledbetter:  "Alexander has been a bona fide resident of the state since 1880."  (Sworn December 1, 1910)

Adjutant General's Office:  "William N. Alexander Pvt CO D 1st Texas Mounted Rifles CSA enlisted April 19, 1861.  A William N. Alexander Pvt. Co A Willis Battalion of Cavalry Waul's Texas Legion CSA enlisted May 2, 1862.  Jan - Feb 1863 roll - reported present."  (January 4, 1911)

Deposition of J. C. Alexander, age 67 of McGregor, Texas:  "W. N. Alexander enlisted April 19, 1861 for 12 months Co D Col. H. E. McCulloch's Reg't.  He reenlisted Co A Willis Battalion of Cav. Waul Legion on May 19 1862.  He served 4 years."  (Sworn December 26, 1910 in McLennan County, Texas)

Deposition of DeWitt Clinton Thomas, age 75, resident of Lampasas, Texas:  "I have known W. N. Alexander 50 years, first at Evergreen in Washington County, Texas.  I know he served in said command until September 1863 at which time I was captured.  Having broke camp in Washington County, Texas about August 1862, we crossed the Mississippi River at Vicksburg, proceeded to Holly Springs, Mississippi.  We served in north Mississippi until my capture in September 1863.  We served in the same company Co A Cav. Battalion 2nd Texas Legion commanded by my Uncle, J. G. Thomas, afterwards by brother-in-law, J. C. Rowland.  The Cav. Battalion was commanded by Col. Willis, the Legion commanded by Col. T. N. Waul.  J. C. Alexander was a member of the same command, he now resides at McGregor.  I made our company pay-roll.  I have a copy of the muster roll of the company, it says W. N. Alexander enlisted May 12, 1862."
