"I have known W. N. Alexander 50 years, first at Evergreen in Washington
County, Texas. I know he served in said command until September 1863
at which time I was captured. Having broke camp in Washington County,
Texas about August 1862, we crossed the Mississippi River at Vicksburg,
proceeded to Holly Springs, Mississippi. We served in north Mississippi
until my capture in September 1863. We served in the same company
Co A Cav. Battalion 2nd Texas Legion commanded by my Uncle, J. G. Thomas,
afterwards by brother-in-law, J. C. Rowland. The Cav. Battalion was
commanded by Col. Willis, the Legion commanded by Col. T. N. Waul.
J. C. Alexander was a member of the same command, he now resides at McGregor.
I made our company pay-roll. I have a copy of the muster roll of
the company, it says W. N. Alexander enlisted May 12, 1862."
