Fiesta de la Paloma Planned for
September 30
A new type of celebration, in lieu of the annual county fair, has been announced by Chamber of Commerce president Ross L. Jones. It will be Coleman Countys Fiesta de la Paloma (dove festival), and is scheduled for Saturday, September 30. Jones explains that Chamber officials have for some time thought that new ideas and new attractions were needed for the annual affair. Dove season is a popular time in the county, with excellent hunting, and the decision was made to select that name and even have a world championship dove cook-off. Many events are included in the plans as follows: gun show or display with lectures or demonstrations.Committees are currently being selected for the festival, and new and different ideas may be advanced from time to time. Jones encourages everyone to have a part in this first Fiesta and help develop it into an event which will attract visitors from all over the state.
