COLEMAN’S BROWN RUMBLES; BLUECATS DOWN ANSON TUSCOLA - Coleman got off to a bang in the Class 2A playoffs at Indian Stadium on Friday night with a 28-7 bi-district win over Anson. Carlton Brown ran for 180 yards on 22 carries, giving him 1,977 yards for the year for the Bluecats. "It would mean a lot to hit 2,000 yards as a senior," Brown said about the rushing mark. The Bluecats took the opening kickoff and drove for a touchdown that was called back because of a holding penalty. After being knocked out of field goal range, Austin Buzzard hit Brady Hunter on fourth and 13 from the Anson 21 yard line for a touchdown and an early 7-0 lead. "We were unable to sustain any momentum," Anson coach Darryl Cash said. "They did a great job keeping our offense on the sideline." After trading punts, Anson took over at the Coleman 37 yard line and Josh Ramos ran right up the middle on the first play for a touchdown to tie the game at 7 to 7. Anson, which did not get a first down until the middle of the second quarter, turned the ball over on its next set of downs when Austin Buzzard intercepted pass from Ramos to effectively end Anson’s chances early in the second quarter. "That pick changed the game," Buzzard said. "It is real important to the offense to keep the defense strong and rested." On the ensuing possession, the Bluecats rode the legs of Brown to take the lead at the half. Brown had two carries that went for more than 10 yards on the drive, including a 35-yard scamper down the Anson sideline. Brown capped off the drive with a 9-yard touchdown bolt with 32 seconds left before halftime for Coleman’s 14-7 lead going into the locker room. The Bluecats dominated the first half, using three drives that lasted at least 10 plays, and ran twice as many plays (37 to 18) to keep the Tigers defense on the field. "Anson played really hard and really well," Coleman coach Rusty Buzzard said. "We have good kids and know we have a long way to go.” “We have not yet reached our potential this season, which is a good thing." Coleman had the Tigers stopped on the opening drive of the second half, but Ramos scrambled for a first down on a broken down fourth-and-5. Two plays later, Anson lost the ball on a fumbled pitch and Coleman capitalized. Brown took the ball on the sixth play of the drive and rambled 46 yards for the score and a 20-7 lead.
