 Comments On Games


The CHS football team in 1971 was called the "Big Blue Machine."  CHS scored 229 points to 31 for their district opponents; 258 to 57 for the season.  Coleman lost only 4 starters from the previous season, 12 returning starters.  Prior to the Eastland game, Coleman was ranked 6th in the state, Eastland ranked 1st.  Eastland won district, then beat Stamford 25 to 8 in bi-district; Coahoma, 56 to 30 in regional; and Childress, 22 to 0 in the quarter-finals; but lost to Jacksboro, 6 to 17 in the semi-final); Jacksboro beat Rosebud-Lott 20 to 14 to win the state championship.
