Some interesting statistics of the 1970 year: Anson game: CHS had 13 first downs, 44 yards rushing, 13 of 29 passes completed for 170 yards passing. Brady game: Brady lost 10 to 0, but had 17 first downs to 6 for CHS, Brady 164 yards rushing to 55 for CHS, Brady 100 yards passing to 84 for CHS, but Brady lost 5 fumbles and 2 interceptions; Boatright kicked a 41 yard field goal. Ozona game: CHS had 13 first downs, 176 yards rushing, made 10 of 14 passes for 135 yards passing. Coleman led Comanche 42 to 6 at halftime; Coleman made 21 first downs, 224 yards rushing, 187 yards passing in 12 out of 22 passes. Against Hamilton, CHS made 19 first downs, 95 yards rushing, 272 yards passing, making 16 out of 26 passes. Cisco game: 20 first downs, 301 yards rushing, 6 out of 14 passes for 137 yards passing. Clyde game: Coleman had 17 first downs, 190 yards rushing, 173 yards passing with 8 out of 15 passes completed. Coleman scored 280 points to their opponents 59 for the year; 226 to 27 for district. After defeating CHS in bi-district, Haskell beat Ozona 17 to 15 in the regional game, then Childress 50 to 15 in the quarter-finals, but lost to Iowa Park 13 to 14, who tied with Refugio 7 to 7 for the state title. |
