Katts Falter vs Coahoma In Bi-District Playoff Game
By Michael Autry

Coleman’s Varsity Bluekatts traveled to Sweetwater on Tuesday night to meet the Bulldogettes of Coahoma in class 2A Region 1 Bi-District play.  After keeping the game close in the first period, the Katts eventually allowed the Bulldogettes to pull away, and secure a 53-32 victory.  The Katts bagged a playoff spot after defeating Early on February 7 in their final regular season game.  A loss to Early would have ended the season, but Coleman seized the opportunity and squeaked out a two-point win.

The 15-12 (5-5 in district) B1uekatts faced off against the District 4-2A Coahoma Bulldogettes (9-1 in district) at 7:30 on Tuesday night at Sweetwater High School.  Coleman played tough in the first period, knocking down three-pointers and taking advantages of trips to the free-throw line.

With a 16-11 lead going into the second period, Coahoma’s defense thickened, and the Katts were held to only four second-period points. The Bulldogettes added 13 of their own, putting Coleman at a 14-point deficit at the half.

A rejuvenating effort in the third period allowed Coleman to put up nine points while holding their opponents to 10, but a 14-8 fourth period in favor of Coahoma extinguished Coleman’s hopes for further playoff advancement.

Kaneesha Graves led the scoring for the Katts with 10 points, followed by Caitlin Hail with nine, LaRae Villarreal with four, Shaley Villegas with three, and Tedye Hambright, Kelsey Hanson, and Sydney Reynolds with two each.
