Texas Army National Guardsman Completes 20 Years of Military Service SEC William W. “Willy Wayne” Reece has received his 20 year retirement eligibility letter. Currently active with 21 continuous years in the Texas Army National Guard serving under the historically known T patch spearhead unit of the I 36th Regiment Training Institute, Combat Arms in Camp Mabry, Austin, Texas. SEC Reece serves as a 19D Cavalry Scout Military Occupation Specialty instructor, earning certification from the United States Army; Armor School, Fort Knox, Kentucky. SFC Reece joined the Armed Forces in August of 1982 after graduating from Coleman High School. He began his military career serving in Detachment 1-3-112th-49 Armor Division located in Coleman, Texas, which members wore the unit patch spearhead of the 36th Infantry Division that led a major part during WW I and WW II. Coleman Armory later closed and moved its personnel and equipment to Headquarters Unit 3-112th Battalion in Brownwood, Texas. SFC Reece owes a great deal of respect and appreciation to role models that include his grandfather, Carter Graves, Disabled Veteran of WWII and long time mentor, retired CMD SMG Barney Ransberger, both of Coleman, Texas. SEC Reece also extends his admiration and guidance from schoolmates and military comrades SSG Mickey P. Salas and SSG Juan A. Hurtado, who both achieved a milestone by being the first soldiers to earn a 20 year retirement as a 19D Cavalry Scout. SEC Reece resides in Brownwood Texas with his wife Karla Stewart Reece and their 4 children, Kristina, William, Christopher and Joshua. He is employed at the Texas Youth Commission as a dorm supervisor with l4 years of employment service. SEC Reece is the son of Marva and Tony Baker, Jr. of Coleman and William W. Reece, Sr. of New Waverly Texas. Great pride is given honoring and recognizing SEC Reece for his long term commitment, devotion and sacrifice to the uniform he wears. During his first l9 years, SEC Reece served as a mechanic working on all light and heavy, wheeled and tracked vehicles in Fort Hood, Texas. When funding ended for the Fort Hood tour of duty, SEC Reece faithfully obligated the remainder of his time as a 19D Cavalry Scout. Conducting duties as driver, scout, gunner, loader and Vehicle Commander. SEC Reece participated in the transition of the old ¼ ton jeeps to the Ml13’s armor personnel carriers and to the current stealth Humvee. SFC Reece entered military service as a private honing his skills attending all Non-Commissioned Officers Academy schools, advancing in promotions to Platoon Sergeant holding the rank of E-7. While being the eyes and ears for the Battalion he has served faithfully under 11 Platoon Leaders: Lt. Col. Rankin (Retired Supt. of Bangs Independent School District), Lt. Bates, Cpt. McClain, Cpt. Airhart, Cpt. Winkley, Lt. Price, Lt. Barrett, Cpt. Casinger, Lt. Brown, Cdt. Pledger, Lt. Simms. Please join us in providing tribute to SFC William W.
