CHS Class of 1965
Class History WHATEVER HAPPENED TO ..............? When
the school census was taken in January of 1954 (during our first grade year),
164 were enrolled in the first grade (both West Ward and South Ward Schools),
and that was before Burkett School closed and many of those students transferred
to Coleman. And don't forget, the Class
of 1965 was the last segregated class in Coleman, with Humphrey High
consolidating with CHS the fall after we graduated. At the end of our eighth grade year, there were one hundred and
forty-one students, plus one that had died in the seventh grade, that made up
what would four years later be the CHS Class of 1965. We ended our freshman year at Coleman High
School with one hundred and twenty-eight classmates, more or less. Over the
next three years, some moved, some married, some dropped out to work, and
others moved in to join our Class of 1965. In all, one hundred and fifty-three were
together at one time or another during those four years at CHS. These students are, primarily, the ones we
have included in our class listings.
One hundred and three graduated on May 27, 1965 to bring that time of
learning, heartbreak, love, playing, and growing to an end. But all in all, it was a very good
year. The Class of 1965 was and is the
largest graduating class in the history of Coleman High School, and before
integration, at that. We were called "The War Babies."
And that, my friends, was the CLASS
OF '65 ..... >>>>>>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<<<<<< AND THERE WERE OTHERS THAT WE SHARED EARLIER TIMES WITH...... Following are lists of kids (with their birthdates in parentheses) that were (or should have been, according to their birthdates) in school with us at the times indicated, but dropped out, were advanced, failed back, or moved away, somewhere along the line. These are in addition to those who were in the Class of 1965 during high school. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<<<<<< FIRST GRADE CENSUS: Taken January 1954 - (Remember, there was West Ward and South Ward then): Eddie Wayne Adams (Aug 28, 1946), Dollie Aguirre (Oct 4, 1946), Joyce Ann & Doris Jann Allen <twins> (Oct 4, 1946), Juanita Andrews (Aug 9, 1947), Ronnie Baccus (Mar 17, 1947), Dorothy Baker (Oct 1, 1946), Claudia Barnett (July 18, 1947), Suella Barnett (April 18, 1947), Tommy Ray Brooks (Oct 13, 1946), John Buell (Dec 25, 1946), Linda Gay Bundick (June 12, 1947), Nancy Faye Campbell (Dec 19, 1946), Lynda Cathey (July 20, 1947), Martha Fay Coleman (Sept 14, 1946), Carolyn Crawford (Oct 5, 1946), Alexander De Anda, Jr (June 22, 1946), Virginia De Anda (May 3, 1947), Billy Jack Dobbins (Dec 9, 1946), Linda Ann Donaldson (Jan 17, 1947), Martha Ann Eldred (Sept 11, 1946), Jerry (Henry) Espitia (Jan 7, 1947), James E.
