Bobby Joe Phillips, age 68,
died Tuesday evening, January 6, 2004 at Medical Center Hospital.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p. m. Friday, January 9, 2004
at Hubbard - Kelly Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Braswell officiating.
Graveside services will be at 2:00 p. m. Saturday, January 10, 2004 at
the Coleman City Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of
Hubbard - Kelly Funeral Home of Odessa.
Bob was the youngest son of Lee
Elmer and Mayme Harrell Phillips. He was born September 23, 1935 in
Quinhin, Texas and grew up in Coleman and eventually started his own
family in Odessa after marrying Martha Templin, also of Coleman. Bob
actively volunteered his time to the community in such roles as a youth
baseball coach, 32nd degree Mason, Scottish Rite of Dallas, and a
member of Calvary Baptist Church. He retired from the United States
Post Office after 39 years of service during which time he also was a
master watch repairman and jeweler. He was preceded in death by his
parents, brother OdelI Phillips, and sister Marie Phillips.
He is survived by his wife of
49 years, Martha; two sons, Bryan and wife Amy and Brad and wife Dian;
two grandchildren, Colton and Erica; three brothers, Lee Phillips and
wife Nina of Dallas, Harold Phillips and wife Katie of Coleman and Fred
Phillips and wife Jean of Houston; one sister, Ruth Wade of Kiowa,
Texas; one sister-in-law, Irene Phillips of Dallas; and many nieces and
nephews.
There will be a visitation for
family and friends tonight (Thursday) from 6:00 to 9:00 p. m. at
Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home in Odessa.
