1978 Class Reunion July 29 - 30, 1978
CHS Class of 1949 Reunites Here Saturday Members of Coleman High School graduating class of 1949 and their families are getting into high gear this week in anticipation of their class reunion scheduled here this weekend. Registration will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Coleman Country Club followed by a barbecue supper at 7:30 p.m. The group will enjoy informal visitation and dancing to records popular in their era. Class Reunion is Now History The reunion of the Coleman High School Class of 1949 was held Saturday evening and Sunday. Main activities included a barbecue Saturday evening at the Country Club and a picnic Sunday noon at the park. Registered for the barbecue Saturday evening were former classmates and their wives and husbands, along with a few children and guests. Some special awards were made, as follows: Most Well-Preserved Man, Kennith Wilson; Betty Grable Look-Alike, Pat Fleming; Youngest Child, Wanda Gibbs, age 7; Coming farthest, Marianne Clark Kirk of Dyers-burg, Tennessee. Class members present and most of their husbands and wives were Wanda Duncan Gibbs and husband Wesley of Bronte; Dulane Mangham and wife, Sue, of San Antonio; Jesse Bowers and wife, Cherry, of Brazoria; Fred Cross and wife Verna Vance (Class of 1948), of Stephenville; Mary Dean Wisener Morgan and husband, Dean, of Brownwood; Ted Crum and wife, Grace Watson (Class of 1951) of Austin; Kennith Wilson and wife, Sandra, of Abilene; Herbert Straughan and wife, Mary Lou, of Houston; Bob Zirkle and wife, Barbara, of Austin; George Dunn and wife, Wanda, of Irving; Pat Parker Fleming and husband Carl (Class of 1948); Glenn Lewallen and wife, Judy, of San Angelo; Melvin (Wincy) White of Sabinal; Wayne and Dolly Bucy Sparkman of Midland; Marianne Clark Kirk of Dyersburg, Tennessee; Wanda (Wee Who) Watson Boss of El Paso; Jackie Mills Ginsberg of Dallas; James Purvis and wife, Margaret of Midland; Marvin Dozier and wife, Prissy Drake (Class of 1948) of Winters; Gene Webb and wife, Jo of El Paso; Imogene Ingram Powers of Bangs; Janie Goss Humble of Winters; Claudia Inman McNutt and husband Raymond (Class of 1947) of Abilene; Ed Mask of San Antonio; Tom and Jean Hughes Good of Muskogee, Oklahoma; Billy Dan Cathey of Midland; and Robert Harris of Houston. Class members who live in Coleman were Bobby Hail Edington; Glenn Thomas and wife, Wanell; Merle Straach and wife, Bobby; Don Johnson and wife, Mary Fran Stevens (Class of 1951); Bonnie Miller Rankin; Bill Stephenson and wife, Joy; and Peggy Beal Silmon. Visitors included former teachers. Bob Russ of San Angelo, Jo Hennig of Glen Cove; a graduate of CHS, Charlyne Griffith of San Marcos; and several former teachers of Coleman.
