Lucille Townsley, 86
Lucille
Townsley, 86, passed away Thursday, January 3, 2008. Her funeral
service will be held at the Woodlawn Church of Christ at 2 p.m.
Saturday, January 5, 2008, with burial following in Elmwood Memorial
Park under the direction of Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 HWY 277 South.
Lucille was born
on March 11, 1921, in Valera, Texas, the third daughter of Henry and
Stella Dennis and was a 1941 graduate of Coleman High School. Lucille
married V. A. Townsley on May 23, 1941 in Coleman County, Texas.
They left Coleman County around 1942, and took up farming in Merkel
until 1946, when they left the farm for a move into Abilene where she
became active in the PTA program at the elementary school her children
attended, and was a scoutmaster for the Cub Scouts. She continued
to be active in all her children's activities throughout their school
years. She
worked in the retail business from 1957 until 1970 when she went to
work in a production plant until her retirement in 1985. After
her retirement she participated in volunteer work at a local hospital
and helped care for the shut-ins and the elderly of our
community. Lucille
was baptized in a creek near Cross Roads, Texas, in her early teens and
has been a member of The Woodlawn Church of Christ since 1958, where
she taught Sunday School when she was able. A devout Christian
her entire life, she served her Lord faithfully and looked forward to
"going home." We mourn her passing, but celebrate her life.
She is survived
by one son and daughter-in-law, Rex and Jennifer Townsley of Abilene;
three grandchildren, Michelle Shoecraft, Ricky Townsley, and Joe
Townsley, all of Fort Worth; and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded
in death by: one son, Joe Bob Townsley; her husband, V. A. Townsley;
and three sisters, Inez Morgan, Emma West, and Gladys Hughes. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations to: Christian Service Center 901 Mesquite, Abilene Texas 79601.
