Dan McLendon and the Rev. Reby Lawler officiating.  Pallbearers included Trey, Andrew and Joe Gerfers, Ethan Armstrong, G. V. Kempf and Roy Tschirhart.  Arrangements were under the direction of Porter Loring Mortuary of San Antonio.

For 54 years she was the wife of Sherman Donald Armstrong who preceded her in death on August 15, 2004.  Nita was born on August 5, 1922 in Coleman, Texas.  After graduating from Coleman High School, she went to Abilene and attended business school to become a secretary.  Her first job was at Floyd West Company, an insurance firm.  Soon, however, she was introduced by Don¹s cousin to her future husband.  Nita and Don were married on July 19, 1950.  They moved their young family to San Antonio in 1955 to begin Armstrong Plumbing Supply.  In 1958 they joined Trinity Baptist Church where they served together for over 30 years in the children¹s ministry.

She is survived by three children: Kay Gerfers and husband Butch; Sherman Armstrong and wife Paula, all of San Antonio; and Patricia Armstrong of Perth, Australia.  Grandchildren include Trey, Andrew and Joe Gerfers, Rhys and Adelaide Bevilaqua, and Ethan and Brett Armstrong.  She is also survived by sisters Mildred Hunter and Loretta Fenton of Coleman, Texas, and Joyce Keller of Tyler, Texas; cousin, Willimae Laird of San Antonio; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Her brother, L. W. Keeney preceded her in death. The family would like to express their appreciation to The Haven at Stone Oak where Don and Nita resided and received loving care since October 2003, and to VITAS Hospice Services who so gently and diligently cared for Nita during her last days.  Memorials may be sent to either Baptist Child and Family Services, 909 NE Loop 410, Suite 800, San Antonio, Texas 78209; VITAS Hospice Services, 5430 Fredericksburg Rd. #200, San Antonio, Texas 78229; or the charity of your choice.  The family invites you to leave a message or memory at www.porterloring.com by selecting "Sign Guestbook" at the bottom of the individual Memorial.
