Eugenia Hartsfield Pittard, 91

Eugenia Hartsfield Pittard, 91 of Voss, passed away on Tuesday, February 6, 2007 at the Holiday Hill Nursing Home in Coleman.  Services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 10, 2007 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ferris Akins officiating.  Interment will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

She was born in Valera, Texas on December 22, 1915 to George Washington and Agnes Eugenia Hartsfield Pauley.  Her mother died when she was a baby, and her father then married her mother's sister, Lee Hartsfield, who raised Eugenia.  Eugenia attended school in Valera and graduated from Coleman High School at the age of 16.  She attended Simmons College in Abilene and received a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in Latin and minoring in English and Math.  She began her teaching career in Leaday in 1935.  She met Louis Pittard at a Halloween carnival at Brown Ranch in 1938.  After four more years of teaching in Brown Ranch, Gouldbusk and Valera, the couple was married on July 19, 1942 in the Valera Baptist Church.  Their first home was in Big Spring, where Louis was employed at the Big Spring Bombadier School, but they moved back to Coleman in 1943.  In 1948, the couple moved to their farm in south Coleman County near Mozelle.  Eugenia resumed her teaching career in the Mozelle Schools, where she taught until 1979.  Except for a few years away to care for each of her small children, Eugenia's teaching career spanned 44 years.  Eugenia was an active member of the Delta Kappa Gamma chapter and the Retired Teachers  Association.  She was an active member of the Voss Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for over 30 years.  Her love for her Lord and her church was evident to all who knew her.  She lived a remarkable 91 years and was ready to meet her Lord when the day arrived.  She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Lee Pauley, two brothers, Chet Pauley and Andrew Pauley of McCamey and sister, Lucille Horne of Coleman.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Louis Pittard of Voss, three sons and daughters-in-law, Knox and Pam Pittard of Bedford, Gary and Lee Ann Pittard of Tyler, Robert and Cindy Pittard of Corinth; one daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Rodney Smith of Abilene; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; Steven and Belinda Pittard and their children, Preston Knox and Presley Kate of Plano, Kirk and Lisa Pittard and their children, Wyatt and Chloe of Fort Worth; Amy and Shayne Wormsbaker and their children, Ashtyn and Abby of Keller; Dr. Aaron and Jennifer Pittard and their children, James and Thomas of San Antonio; Gina Wilson and Seth Pittard of Corinth and Matt Smith and Jennifer Smith of Abilene.

A proud mother and grandmother, Eugenia s greatest joy was spending time with, and serving, her family.  Family visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, February 9, 2007 at Stevens Funeral Home.  Memorial contributions may be sent to Holiday Hill Nursing Home or Hospice of the Big Country.  The family wishes to extend a special word of thanks to the Doctors and Staff of Coleman County Medical Center, the staff at Holiday Hill Nursing Home and many friends for their acts of kindness.
