Thelma Howard Throgmorton, 93, of Coleman died Wednesday, April 5, 2006 at Coleman County Medical Center. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 8, 2006 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Coleman City Cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home. Family visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. She was born Thelma Howard on April 17, 1912 in Gouldbusk, the daughter of Alvis Porter Howard and Ximena McDaniel Howard. She grew in Gouldbusk and graduated from Coleman High School in 1929 and later graduated from Howard-Payne University with a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Elementary Education. She married Otis Throgmorton on May 24, 1946 in Gouldbusk. He preceded her in death on March 2, 2005. Mrs. Throgmorton taught in elementary schools for 30 years, teaching at Redbank, Starkwater, Priddy, Mozelle and Coleman. She wrote the Voss News column in the Coleman Chronicle and Democrat-Voice for many years, was named Coleman County Rural Citizen of the Year in 1995, a charter member of the Delta Alpha Chapter, Delta Kappa Gamma, member of Captain William Buckner Chapter of the Daughter’s of the American Revolution and a member of Voss Baptist Church. Survivors include on daughter and son-in-law, Caroline and Harold Skelton of Coleman; one son, Richard Throgmorton of Centennial; one brother and sister-in-law, William A. (Bill) and Opal Howard of Austin; several nieces and nephews including Michael Howard of California, Charlotte Grantier of Minnesota and several cousins.
