CHS Class of 1925
The graduating class of 1925 gave to Coleman High School an Edison Phonograph.
Below is picture of the plaque from that phonograph sent by Sherry Day, of the
CHS Class of 1968, which was purchased at the Coleman Pawn Shop in 2009.
We have no idea what became of the old phonograph itself.

Senior Class '25
Edward Perry, Pres - Olen Purcell, V-Pres - Elizabeth Hubert, Secty.
Below are 2 articles telling about its purchase.
Senior Class Donates Handsome Phonograph to Local High School
The senior class at the
hight school last week played Santa Claus, and donated to the
institution a handsome, late model laboratory phonograph that will in
future year be a source of pleasure and enlightenment to pupils who
attend the best school in Central West Texas. The instrument
complete cost the class $295, less commissions gratefully donated by
Jerry Harbout, from whom it was purchased.
(The Coleman Democrat-Voice, December 26, 1924.)
GIFT OF THE CLASS OF '25
The class of '25 made the high school a Christmas present of an
Edison. This will be a great help, in the interpretation of musical
selections and poems that are given in the school. Twice a week a
teacher gives a selection of the students and by the use of the Edison,
the pieces can be made more interesting and attractive to the student
body. This gift is the first movement toward the equipment of the new
high school building. The model Edison that is now on the rostrum is
not the one that the class wishes. The Chippendale model has already
been ordered and will arive in a few days.
(The Round-Up, January 6, 1925.)
(Note
from the CHS Historian: At this time, the building of the "new"
Coleman High School on North Neches Street was being built and was
completed in 1926. To put the price of this gift in perspective,
at this time in Coleman, a Ford Fordor Sedan cost $660, which was the
most expensive model, and a Ford Runabout, the least expensive model,
cost $260.)

This is a restored Chippendale Edison Phonograph,
much like the one given by the CHS Class of 1925 to the school.
