CHS Class of 1911
The
graduating exercises at the High School Auditorium Friday evening were
perhaps the most interesting given in the history of the schools at
this place. As an evidence of the interest taken in affairs of
this kind, the building was packed with friends of the graduating class
and well may Coleman feel proud of these young people who have striven
hard to reach this goal of graduation.
The address to the class by Dr. Junkin, president of Daniel Baker College at Brownwood, was a treat in oratory and showed profound thought. Those in the class of 1911 were Misses Janie Wood, Estelle Orr, Zenith Vanhoose, Billy B. Hughes, Elizabeth Martin, Mary Wilson, Clora Baker, Laura Strong and Chas. Perry and Calvin Jones. Janie Wood and Calvin Jones each received a scholarship to Southwestern University for having made the highest grades. Too much praise cannot be given Prof. Hickman and his able corps of teachers. It was through his untiring efforts and persistent labor that this school is affiliated with the Sate university. (The Coleman Democrat-Voice, May 26, 1911.)
