POST OAK SPRINGS CEMETERY, COLEMAN COUNTY, TEXAS
To reach the Post Oak Springs Cemetery, go west from Valera on US 67 for about two and one-half miles, and take a right (north) on the first county dirt road. After you have gone about 1.8 miles, you will literally run into these graves, as the road takes a turn to go around them. Some of the graves are on the side of the road, and the others are inside the fenced property to the east of the road, which was at one time James land. These graves are not cared for and are not fenced.
Little is known as to the origin of this cemetery. There is a deed record referring to a Post Oak Grave Yard, but this reference is actually to Midway Cemetery. The cemetery derives its name from Post Oak Springs, a landmark of this area from the the time of the rangers in the 1860's and 1870's.
