Reunion: Bronte High School Class of 1965 Contributed by Brenda Scott Hines August 2010 *********************************************************************** The Observer/Enterprise Friday, August 20, 2010 Bronte High School Class of 1965 holds 45th year Reunion The Bronte High School Class of 1965 recently celebrated its 45-Year Class Reunion. A wonderful day and evening was enjoyed by all! The Reunion was held in Bronte on Saturday, July 17, 2010. As was true for the other five Class Reunions held, the Class of 1965 was very pleased with the great attendance it had. A total of 36 people either attended the Reunion or stopped by to say hello. Amazingly, 11 members of the Class who began First Grade together in Bronte went to school together all 12 years! (Interesting to note is that when this group of students began school in the Fall of 1953, there was not a Kindergarten class in Bronte..) Attending the reunion were 13 of 17 living Class Graduates: Gerald Parker of Winters; Ida Lee (Parker) Ellis of Ballinger; Jerry Don Holcombe of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Kenneth Wilkins of Richland Hills; Marla (Reese) Brockett of Houston; Mary (Corley ) and Jim Morrow of Bronte; Mike McKown of Rockwll; Peggy (Corley) Belew of Winters; Ronnie Lee of Waco; Ronnie Sims of Bronte; Sharon (Hurley) Kennedy of Winters, and Tricia (Andrews) DuBois of Austin. Class Graduates who were unable to attend were: Beth (Ivey) Ward, Bob Strickland, Kathy (Terry) Turner, and Margi (Oglesby) Koranek. Also attending were three former classmates: Barbara (Baggett) Huggins of Pensacola, Florida; and Phillip Buchanan of Midland. The Class honored deceased Graduate, Edwyn McDaniel; and deceased Classmates, David Wayne Davis, Jack White, Mary Frances Brock, and Nancy Wilson. Spouses who attended were: Helen Parker, Dale Ellis, Linda Jackson, Kay McKown, Scotty Belew, Shari Buchanan, Kreta Lee, and Mel Kennedy. There were 15 people who stopped by the Class Reunion to say hello, which included two former Room Mothers, Mrs. Christine Corley and Mrs. Effie Corley; and two more parents, Mr. And Mrs. Elmer Hurley. Also stopping by the Reunion was Mrs. Royce Fancher, their Class Sponsor for the four years they were in High School, and who accompanied them on their Senior Trip to Colorado Springs, Colorado. Mrs. Fancher has known most of the Class Members during all of their 12 school years because she taught at Bronte during all that time! Others stopping by were Steve and Brenda (Scott) Hines, Bronte; Carolyn (Hines) Gray of Pensacola, Florida and David and Susan Baggett of Belton, Texas and Lilly Gray of Anchorage, Alaska; Laura (Morrow) Foreman of Burleson, Texas and Janet (Caperton) Hickman of Bronte. The Bronte High School Class of 1965 is looking forward to it's next Class Reunion! ******** Permission granted by The Observer/Enterprise for publication in the Coke County TXGenWeb and/or the Coke County Archives of the USGenWeb.
