News Story: West - Reel Wedding June 17, 1951 Contributed by Brenda Scott Hines Sep 2013 ************************************************************************** The Bronte Enterprise Bronte, Texas June 22, 1951 West - Reel Wedding June 17, 1951 Miss Shirley Ann West and Mr. Charles Edward Reel were united in marriage Sunday night, June 17 at 7 p.m. In a single ring ceremony read by Rev. J. E. Fuller, pastor of the First Methodist church here. The quiet candlelight ceremony was administered at the home of the bride's mother, Mrs. Minnie B. West, in the presence of relatives and a few close friends of the bride and groom. The bride was given in marriage by her mother, who also served as her attendant, Mr. Preston Reel served his brother as best man. For her wedding and a short wedding trip, the bride wore a suit of nylon faile and pink accessories. Her corsage was of pink asteroids. For something old, she carried a handmade lace and linen handkerchief belonging to Mrs. J. D. Leonard. Mrs. Leonard carried the handkerchief at her own wedding which was performed by the bride's late father, Rev. D. M. West on Dec. 3, 1911. For something new, she wore her wedding costume and for something borrowed she wore a double string of pearls belonging to Mrs. Taylor Emerson. For something blue she had blue bows as part of her accessories. For money in her shoe, she had a tiny gold coin which had belonged to her sister, Minnie Blanche West, who died in 1933. The coin was given to her sister by Mr. W. H. Poynter, former president of a bank in Dover. Immediately following the wedding ceremony, an informal reception was held in the home of the bride's mother. The table was laid in lace with the appointments in pink, white and crystal. The bridegroom's sister, Mrs. Travis Weatherly and his sister-in-law Mrs. Preston Reel, assisted in serving. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Reel of Nashville, Ark. He is employed by Morris and McCutchen Drilling Co. The bride is the daughter of the late Rev. D. M. West and Mrs. Minnie West. The late Mr. West was a long time resident of Bronte and for many years edited and published the Bronte Enterprise. The bride has lived in Bronte all of her life and was a student in the Bronte school. After the wedding the couple left for a short wedding trip.
