Collier January 2010 ******************************************************************************* Robert Lee Observer, Robert Lee, Coke county, TX - January 4, 1980 Mr. and Mrs. Otis Smith to Celebrate 50th Wedding Anniversary Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Otis Smith of Bronte will be honored with a 50th wedding anniversary reception Sunday, Jan. 6, at their home one mile north of Bronte. All their friends and relatives are invited to come by between two and four p.m. Hosts for the reception are the couple's daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. E. S. Herring of Junction. Mr. and Mrs. Smith were married Jan. 4, 1930, at the Bronte Baptist parsonage by Rev. Deweese. Mrs. Smith is the daughter of Mrs. Lem Cowley. Mr. Smith is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Smith, longtime Bronte residents. The Smiths are active in community affairs. He was In the butane business for several years and is still active in looking after his ranch interests. He has served as Coke County Commissioner for Precinct 2 and continues to work in Civil Defense activities, presently serving as the Coke County Civil Defense director. They are members of the First Baptist Church and Mrs. Smith is a member of the University Club. The Smiths have one daughter, Jean Herring; three grandchildren, Mrs. Mike (Donna) Gosney of El Paso, Capt. Randy Sheppard of Del Rio and Ricky Sheppard of Austin; and three great-grandchildren.
