NEWSTORY: H. F. Saunders Farm - 1959 Contributed by Brenda Scott Hines May 2011 *********************************************************************** The Bronte Enterprise, Coke County, TX - June 11, 1959 SAUNDERS Saunders Place was featured Mystery Farm The Mystery farm home is the home of Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Saunders of Blackwell and located 1.5 miles north of the Fort Chadbourne depot. There are 120 acres in the farm, known as the George Allen place. Mr. and Mrs. Saunders bought the farm in 1926 from Wes Carlisle. The house was built in 1948-49, the Saunders hauled native rock with their trailer and tractor and their oldest and youngest sons, Pete and Rex, built the house. The Saunders operation is mostly stock farming and their principal livestock are sheep. Mrs. Saunders is the former Bertie Cade, and they were married in 1912. They have seven children including: J. W. (Pete) Saunders, Cortez, Colo.; Mrs. Florene VanZandt, Maryneal; Mrs. Evelyn McRory, San Angelo; H. F. Saunders, Nolan; Mrs. Francis Sneed, Fort Worth; and J. H and Rex Saunders, both of Blackwell. Another son, Bill Saunders, was reported Missing in Action with the U. S. Navy during World War II.
