PENDERGRAST CELEBRATES 90TH BIRTHDAY Contributed by Jo Collier January 2010 *********************************************************************** The Observer/Enterprise, Robert Lee, Coke County, Tx - Dec 12, 1986 Pendergrast Celebrates 90th Birthday Anna Mae Eaton (Mrs. R. H.) Pendergrast of 1931 State Street in Abilene will be the honoree at a reception at her home Saturday, (Dec. 13) marking her 90th birthday. Hosting the open house from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday will be her daughter, Wanda Pendergrast Wright of Weatherford, and sons Carl Brock of Temple, Tom Pendergrast of Killeen, and Sam Pendergrast of Abilene. Born Anna Mae Eaton Dec. 15, 1896, at Carbon, Texas, daughter of Frank R. (Pink) and Harriette Louise Eaton, she moved to Bronte as a child with her family. She attended Bronte High School and was a telephone operator during World War I. She moved to Abilene in 1939 with her husband, the late Robert H. Pendergrast, and six children, after they had lived in Phoenix, Arizona, for five years. Her husband, Bob Pendergrast, died in February of 1951, and her oldest son Eddie Brock, died in September of that year. Another son, Charles Pendergrast, died in October of 1985. Mrs. Pendergrast is the last surviving member of her generation of pioneer Coke County Eaton family. Her father died died in 1939 and her mother died in 1961. Her brother Roy died in 1942 in Lost Angeles; Frank in 1963 in Bronte; and Jack at San Angelo in 1974; and her sister, Odessa Eaton Kightlinger in Denver in 1985. Her son, Sam, known in these parts as an itinerant newsman, invited area friends to call greetings to the birthday lady at (915) 677-1419 if they are unable to attend the reception Saturday.
