Newstory: Presentation at Old Jail, July 31, 2014 Contributed by Brenda Scott Hines August 2015 *********************************************************************** The Observer/Enterprise, Coke County, TX - Friday, August 8, 2014 Presentation at Old Jail A presentation was held at the old Coke County Jail Thursday afternoon, July 31, 2014. Several county citizens were given the stones and replicas of the shadow box in honor of John Russel Saul. Mr. Saul, grandson of former Coke County Sheriff Sam Russell, was born April 16, 1930, on the upper level of the jail, just a little ways from the Colorado River. He passed away near the Colorado River, but in Columbus, Texas, on September 1, 2013. The stones were cut from stones used to build the jail in 1907. The original stones were gathered by Commissioner Bobby Blaylock and given to John Shaddix to be delivered to be crafted by Buddy Hudson.
