News Story: Fires in Coke County - June 8, 2011 Contributed by Brenda Scott Hines Sep 2011 ************************************************************************** The Observer/Enterprise, Coke County, Texas, Friday, June 17, 2011 COKE COUNTY FIRES Unfortunately, It's a Familiar Scene! Members of the Robert Lee and Bronte Volunteer Fire Departments began battling the Dos Amigos fire 15 miles west of Robert Lee on State Highway 158 Wednesday, June 8, beginning at 10:30 am. Numerous other volunteer departments joined them over the next several days, along with the Coke County Sheriff's Department, Coke County Commissioners and employees, private contractors and the Texas and United States Forest Service. After burning over 20,000 acres, the only one left on the scene Saturday evening were units with the Forest Service. The fire flared again Monday evening, but was brought back under control by the local firefighters.
