NEWSTORY: County's New Court House is Completed - 1956 Contributed by Brenda Scott Hines May 2011 *********************************************************************** The Bronte Enterprise, Coke County, TX - May 25, 1956 ROBERT LEE County's New Court House is Completed Coke County's new $300,000 Court House has been completed and was formally turned over by the contractors last Thursday following an inspection by the Commissioners Court. Considerable delay resulted from failure of material to be delivered on time. Since the delays could not be helped, it was felt Suggs Construction Co. was not liable for a $25 per day penalty for failure to complete the project within the allotted 300 working days. Everyone is agreed the county got its money's worth. It's a beautiful building throughout and is air conditioned for winter and summer. New Equipment purchased for all offices were being installed this week, and every department will have been moved into the new building by the end of the week. Offices from the County AG annex across the street moved early, so that old equipment can be stored there until it is disposed of. McGuire Bros. of Bronte have been given contract to tear down the old court house and expect to start to work next Monday. Formal dedication of the new Court House will be held later in the summer. *************************** Permission granted by The Observer/Enterprise for publication in the Coke County TXGenWeb and/or the Coke County Archives of the USGenWeb.
