MARIE MARTIN MERRIWETHER

Funeral for Marie Merriwether, 82, of Alto was at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the A. Frank Smith United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Randy Fitzgerald and the Rev. Dick Dobbins officiating. Burial was in Alto City Cemetery.

Mrs. Merriwether died Sunday. She was born Jan. 22, 1924, in Houston County to Otis and Mae Rushing Martin. Her family lived in Trinity and Cherokee counties. She was living in Wells when she met and married J.R. Merriwether, who preceded her in death. She lived most of her life in Alto was worked at the theater ticket booth. She also worked packing tomatoes, grading eggs and for International Paper Co. She retired while working for Southwestern Electric Service Co. She was a member of A. Frank Smith United Methodist Church and the Downtown Bible Class.

Also preceding her in death were a sister, Janie Martin; and brothers, A.G., Otis Jr. and Milton Martin.

Survivors are a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Larry Griffith of Alto; two sisters, Wilma Smith of Lufkin and Annette Thompson of Rusk; two brothers, William Martin of Crockett and Morris Martin of Mesquite; grandchildren, John and Kimberly Griffith and Kyle and DeAnna Griffith, all of Alto; great-grandchildren, Kade, Presley, Mason and Ryan Griffith; special friend Coy Allen of Carrollton; numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the charity of choice.

O.T. Allen & Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
