ALVIE F. JONES
Funeral for Alvie F. Jones, 92, of Alto was at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Hilltop Baptist Church with the Rev. Leon Maxwell officiating. Burial was in Lynches Chapel Cemetery.
Mr. Jones died April 17. He was born June 17, 1915, in Slocum, to Oliver B. and Elizabeth Foster Jones.
He lived in Alto for 28 years and was a charter member of the Hilltop Baptist Church and a cattle rancher.
He had lived in Houston for many years and worked 33 years for the Goodyear Rubber Company. He had been a member of the Golden Acres First Baptist Church in Houston. He attended Sam Houston State University on a football scholarship and worked parttime as an umpire for college baseball games.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Christine Jones; two brothers, Willard Jones and Tom Bridges; and a sister, Viola Wallace.
Survivors are seven sons and four daughters-in-law, James and Joana Jones, Mark and Kerrie Jones and Clifford Jones, all of Alto, Alvie F. Jones Jr. and Donald and Helen Jones, all of Houston; Bobby and Gina Jones of Diboll and Norman Jones of Humble; two brothers, Troy Jones of Elkhart and J.W. Bridges of Cuero; 14 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren.
Sons and grandsons served as pallbearers.
O.T. Allen & Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
