Garrett
Services for Lonnie B. Garrett, 74, Point Blank, formerly of Cherokee County,
are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, May 10, at the Concord Cumberland
Presbyterian Church, near Troup, with the Rev. Dr. Harold Brunson officiating.
Burial will be in the Concord Cemetery, under the direction of Cottle Funeral
Home in Troup.
Mr. Garrett died Monday, May 7, in a Lufkin hospital. He was born June 1, 1932,
in Cherokee County, to the late Verman Richard Garrett and Lillie Kee Garrett.
He moved to Point Blank, Texas, in 1994 from Houston.
Mr. Garrett was a licensed minister and was a Baptist. He served as a deacon and
as the associate pastor of several churches. He was a song leader and a
Bible-study teacher. He was also employed by Houston Pipeline and Houston
Natural Gas.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Janice
Kay Garrett; and by a brother-in-law, Robert Kinser. He married Gwen Kinser in
Houston, Feb. 20, 1960.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Gwen Kinser Garrett of Point Blank;
three sons and daughters-in-law, David and Rosie Garrett of Katy, Duane Garrett
of Point Blank, and Daniel and Sharon Garrett of New Caney; two daughters and
sons-in-law, Gwen and Leland Snyder of Magnolia and Carla and Richard Kalmick of
Sugarland; a sister and brother-in-law, Clara and Harold Penn of Bellaire; 12
grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law,
Lou and Doug Chesnutt of Jewett; a sister-in-law, Ellene Kinser of Houston; and
numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Cecil Pond, Chester Pond, Barry Burton, Charles Burton,
Randall Chesnutt and Jerry Chesnutt.
The family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2007, at the funeral
